Lovingly-written memoir, despite the multi-dimensional abuses of his childhood. As a mother, I wept so many times at both his early deprivations and, in relief, at his later salvations. And you don't need to appreciate the emo bands he loved as a pre-teen (The Cure, The Smiths), to appreciate the harrowing story of his survival.

Why?? To open himself up to be betrayed and let down once again?? Sometimes you have to “weed” yourself of those relationships that are not beneficial to you, even if it’s a parent.

It’s so sad that this organization was created to give people becoming sober a community so that they wouldn’t be lonely and isolated trapped in the viscous cycle of addiction, yet they perpetrated that crime onto the children of the members. 😢

one has to suspect so -teens were order to join synanon by court order and it received state and federal funding without any financial auditing
the founder received a six year probation without any jail time after he ordered several murders seriously, one wonders about to whos benefit an army of mindless slaves was usefull
