>Comes forth from a realm of horrors, beyond all comprehension. >Decides creatures on the material plane aren't cool enough. >Just throws a few together. Great going, Demo.
The first depictions of a Chimera was "a thing of immortal make, not human, lion-fronted and snake behind, a goat in the middle, and snorting out the breath of the terrible flame of bright fire." But the snake part was frequently being switched out for a dragon. Maybe because dragon in greek basically means big snake.
if a dm put that in front of me I'm sorry I'd probably have my pc melt and try to hug it. chances are every party would make animal handling roll after animal handling roll to make the thing a pet
Oh my god you're doing D&D videos now. Oh my god. This is practically the best thing that's happened to me in 2017. I support this 100%. I'm definitely sending this to my DM; can't wait for more videos!
from what I understand/remember about the Chimera in 2nd ed d&d: Most are the crazy biological experiments of mad and evil wizards, kinda like a flesh golem, the beast would be both a great minion and a symbol of the mage's accomplishments (You have to be powerful and knowledgeable to create a chimera). I'm going to assume that the gaps in the 5th ed. description can be filled with this info, so for most of the unknowns it'll come down to the individual construction of the chimera, the skill of the mage making it, or the random genetic toss up it gets when they mate (I wasn't aware they could breed).
add in the abyss background and you do have a creature almost designed to change and adapt to anything, just without agency or control over this evolution process.
I'm subscribing just for the dnd videos! It's so rare to find dnd lore videos that are this well done. If these videos become even a semi-regular thing count me a subscriber for life!
There is no lore. This is what the Wizards of the Coast has built. The idea that it's canon is retarded. If you want, you can create an entirely, full fleshed out world every time you play. He could just read off the hundreds of $50 books they want unimaginative people to pick up.
As it turns out, some people are actually interested in other people's fictional works and worlds, and want to "explore" them or draw inspiration from them. If you believe it is possible to create a fully fleshed out fantasy world compatible with the system without understanding the tools and tropes associated with it, I'd like to see you try.
I played as a chimera once. My group didn't show up, so I joined another group that day. They were in the middle of a dungeon, though, so I offered to play as their opponent. It was fun. :D
Well this is new. Do more on gnolls, orcs, goblinoids, and liches! Also 4:06 what program or game is that? Can I buy it from any online store or download it?
that is roll20, its an online website that my friends and I use to play d&d. It's basically like a table where you can roll simulated dice and upload maps and creatures tokens to play d&d with people far away (online).
Chimera is my daughter's name. It was also the name of my favorite Nu Metal/Metalcore band from the early 2000's (though it's spelled differently). Didn't know jack about them in terms of DnD before this video. :)
Considering the only worth while attack that the goat or ram head is capable of is a charge, wouldn’t it make more sense to be in the middle so it would be able to transfer as much energy as possible, I know it’s the least cool head which is why artists always put the dragon or lion head in the middle but come on, what’s it gonna do side step into you?
Question. if you kill a mother Chimera, and find her cub, could an adventuerer take the cub in, raise it, train it, and eventually ride it into battle?
I really hope you will do a video about the more beast like humanoids, like the Gnolls, cat, wolfs, and others. I am really curious about them all. And i know for a fact some are good, other bad. And in the realm of possibility, some races could even intermingle or be even more intimate with each other depending on the story and world, hence why the DnD universe is so versatile. And i am still learning about it. The possibilities are infinite as far as i am aware. Guilds, kingdoms, cults, beasts and humanoids and their relationships, wars, and whatnot.
awesome video, i have a sugestion, has a creature I've always been curious about, illithid is the name, it looks like a being out of the D & D world, if you could talk about it in a future video would be cool
1:36 I have that one, pretty sure. I have a ton of old dragon magazines. I am highly enjoying your channel, rekindling my love of the game. If you have a p/o box,Ill send you a couple.
You should do a video on D&D's Demogorgan. The only Demogorgan explanation I have seen on RUclips is the Stranger Things Demogorgan. I have been interested in that character since I played The Throne of Bhaal
3.5 E has a chimeric template that you can add to an animal or vermin, adding to that creature a goat's head, a dragon's head and wings and replacing the hindquarters of the creature with a goat's. The standard chimera would be that template applied to a regular lion. Why it has a goat's head? Well, goats can eat almost everything, a very useful ability when the creature lives in wastelands, the goat's sense of balance and climbing ability is also very useful when you live in mountains and we can't forget that they can also can ram their enemies with the goat's head and use it to make blunt damage with headbutts in close combat, we have to remember that it is not a regular goat's head but a goat's head as big as a lion's, it is also a dangerous part of the creature.
In old dnd this kind of chimera was known as the draconic chimera... my cousin played dnd one time and made a normal chimera... but she could breath fire so it's cool...
Gryphon is a lion Eagle hybrid, normally. That picture was of a hippogryph, an eagle horse hybrid. Pretty much any animal gets mixed with a bird at some point with mythical creatures.
Super late comment, don’t know if I’ll actually get a reply, what is the ambient music used in this video? It’s so familiar but I can’t place it and I’m losing my mind over it.
I feel as if, because the Chimera is a mix of 3 different creatures that it would have more of a life force thus it can stop the effects of petrification as i think petrification from a monster has to do with the soul or life force of the thing being petrified emphasis on "Think". Edit: I watched the video a bit more and i think my theory may be correct (if life force has to do with petrification) because the Chimera can grow back it's heads and has incredible healing abilities that work without it saying an incantation that it could maybe possibly be connected to life force as other magic thing's and lore of other titles, ranging from movies to ARG's have some kind of connection from life force to healing as they are often almost the same thing's in some titles.
Chimeras in my campaigns were not all exactly like the base one in the Monster Manuel. I am a mythology fan too. Some are immune to Gorgon breath because of the Alteration magic that spawned them, making them immune to some Alteration magic... like petrification. Also, I have chimeras that are not actually monsters but created by fusion (alteration) magic. In my campaigns, hippogriffs, griffons, manticores, owlbears and a few others fall under the class "chimera." The middle eastern people of my campaigns use "chimera" in this general form to the confusion of the rest of the world who dealt with Chimeras. When a player used a Potion of Fusion (the drinker can combine with anyone he wants for additional abilities, hp, etc for the duration of the potion), a powerful entity they were about to fight said: "I have killed more powerful chimeras than you, fool. You only lost the ability to flank me."
Do more d&d stuff. No seriously. I like this more becuase the game's lore is deeper than the other games you have done. Also how many you have from other games. You will have those players plus others enjoying dnd.

Great going, Demo.
he's the prince of demons, not god of creativity
@@glasshorse6893 I might be wrong, but isn't Demogorgon also insane and extremely narcissistic.
@@lisagaughan7154 not sure tbh, but dude is certainly not nice to the animals he crammed together to make this
Demo or DM? That's honestly what happens behind the scenes all the time, isn't it

I know they are still horrible creatures but that baby chimera was adorable
Lets go people and lets headpet the baby chimera as long as it is weak and helpless!! XD
@Hanel Crowley Choose at your own peril. ^_^

he finally did
Shit! I was sick like hell and there was nothing to do but when I gave youtube a hopeless refresh it actually rewarded me with awesomeness!
My favourite lore channel talking about my favourite game? Awesome! I hope we see more videos like this.

Would you be able to make these about the gods?
Players handbook and forgotten realms only give you that much to work with as a Cleric
And if you want more Chimeras for your 5e D&D, there is rules for different types in MOoT :D
here you can find rules to mix your own Chimera :D

hey Mr Rhrexx. ever since chronicles of a sad story, I've made up a new name of your anti hero called Lord Daedrix.
I fought a chimera in a Pathfinder game. Our Monk threw my Paladin and I destroyed one of the heads upon striking, leading to falling out of the sky.
Hey Rhexx gonna do any streaming sometime soon?
Whats the background music?! Its sooo calming
You did not record the end of skyrim?
Thanks for the vid sir.👍🏼👍🏼
