Your understanding of the patterning in the damascus was interesting. This was the first time I have seen a bolster forge welded to the blade, very cool. Several times in this series you have emphasized not becoming complacent with small tedious details as further into process it can cause additional work or problems, I agree.

The value I get from these is just crazy for someone that is just learning the craft. Might make me attempt a few things far beyond my skill level at times... but mistakes are how you learn 😂
    Amazing channel 👍

I’ve never attempted forge welding a guard/bolster but I think I need to try this out! Thanks for showing us! 👍

Very neat TIG welding, then followed by the forge welding, you make it look so easy, very skilful indeed!! As usual great video, regards from Down Under.

Would something like modifying a reciprocating saw to use files help with that bulk filing work?

People have done such things! I’m casually in the market for a die filing machine for such purposes.

Hi Salem, I’ve got a question if you don’t mind: I see you wearing a glove on your hammer hand, whereas everywhere I’ve seen/read it’s highly discouraged to do so. Any particular reason you wear a glove on that hand?

Something that big at forge welding temp gives off a crazy amount of heat, even the brief time your hammer hand is nearby is enough for the back of it to burn. That would be my reason at least, although it does make holding the hammer way harder!

SuperRadicalJam has it. The radiant heat is tremendous. It’ll singe your knuckles. I have a heavy welding glove on my left hand, and a thin leather TIG welding glove on my hammer hand, which still affords quite decent feel and grip. For other general hand forging I don’t wear gloves…
