    300-279! What amazing scores to see! I was excited to bowl my first 300 game. I’ve also bowled some 279 scores. This was a fun match to watch.

    I remember watching this live on TV. That was probably the best match ever! 23 strikes a just 1 spare between them! Every ball was in the pocket for both. I've never bowled a 300 game in my 42 years of bowling. There is obviously skill and always a bit of luck.

    This is one of the all-time greatest matches. I've watched it many times and it's still exciting to watch. The master Johnny Petraglia and Mr. 300 Bob Learn Jr!

  • @rickhickman7138
    @rickhickman7138 5 лет назад +22

    Fascinating that at least twice in PBA history, the person shooting a 300 beat another bowler who had achieved the same feat on TV, (Petraglia over Bob Benoit)

    • @drewinthedew
      @drewinthedew 4 года назад +2

      Sorry to correct you good sir but Petraglia beat WRW JR when he shot 300, Butch Soper beat Bob Benoit shooting 300 is what you were after =). And CK Moore shot his 300 against PB3 2 years before he shot his. pretty cool how theyre all connected. Jonny Gunther beat Don Johnson for his 300 when Don had the infamous 299 as well on TV.

    I watched this on WXYZ Channel 7 Detroit, which was the ABC affiliate picked up, in my part of Canada at the time, Saint John, New Brunswick, on Fundy(fun-DEE) Cable, now Rogers Cable, Channel 7.
    To me, the broadcast began at 4PM Atlantic Daylight Time on that Saturday afternoon, and this was the 1st time I ever saw a 300 perfect game, for $100,000(the prize amount it should be returned to, PBA...get on that XD), on a live broadcast of the Professional Bowlers Tour on ABC Sports.
    I jumped out of whatever seat I was in in my living room then, and gave a bit of a loud 'YES!', because the 14-year old me was EXTREMELY happy to see someone as cool as Bob take down the big money like that. To me, he earned every dollar won, and then some.
    And to also have it happen, basically, at home, in front of his people, made that a REALLY special thing for me to see. To hear their roar made my heart happy too.
    =)

    Could you imagine rolling a 279 and losing to a 300.

    • @AcessDBpro
      @AcessDBpro 2 года назад

      The only way to get 279 is to bowl 11 strikes, including 3 in the 10th, and to go 9-spare in any other frame. Tough break. A total of 23 strikes were bowled between two players in regulation. (There have been only four matches in PBA history, none on TV, that involved two bowlers each getting 300 in regulation, and having to roll-off for the victory.)

    Was amazing to watch this match. I jumped off the couch when that last ball was thrown. Growing up an hour from Erie, made it even better. I never threw a 300. My best was a 289 and several 250+ games. Felt bad for Johnny... throw 11 strikes and lose.

    "He leaves nothin' in the bag!!!"
    "He doesn't throw (what we call) any weak sisters!" (either a 7 or 10)
    Then about Johnny Petraglia: "He was involved in the Tet offensive, so nothing is feared by Johnny Petraglia..."
