Hoover hogs you say ?........ Would you say that those people that dined on armadillo might have had a similar appetite for haggis ? Or was it somewhat of an acquired taste , do you think? 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐
Not if they are living in the wild, at least. But there are campaings for mass and free vaccination for dogs and cats every year in Brazil, so their owners can take them to get the shots against rabbies. I am not sure that pet armadillos are elegible to get vaccinated for free, though.@@mattdragon333
Weird it took you ten minutes to mention that only 9 banded armadillo carry it. Would have been helpful to mention that at the beginning of your video, for the people who have short attention spans.
Where I live people have been eating armadillos for at least 100 years and no one ever caught leprosy, I have asked numerous people if they ever heard or knew about anyone with the desease of similar symptoms, as a small community people would know and talk about it for decades
In the video he said that " only humans and armadillos carry leprosy." But I've been told by people from Creole descendants that you have to be careful when eating snapping turtles and alligator turtles because they carry leprosy and you can get it from them.
That's not true. Here's some info for you! Armadillos are the only animals other than humans that host the leprosy bacillus. Leprosy has been found in nine-banded armadillos in the American continents and has been transmitted to humans through infected armadillos. There is a risk that armadillos may contaminate soil with the leprosy bacteria by burrowing and defecating, infecting humans who later handle soil. Other animals that have been described as having natural infection with leprosy include: Mangabey monkeys Red squirrels in the UK The leprosy contracted and carried by dogs is not the same as the one that affects humans, and is not known to be transmissible to or acquired from people or armadillos. Leprosy (Hansen's disease) is rare, with approximately 208,000 people having it around the globe. Most cases are found in Asia and Africa. In the United States, about 100 people receive a leprosy diagnosis every year.
@@wesleypipesgaming19 that's crazy I really wish that I have known that because I wouldn't eat any Cajun food that had turtle meat in it because I was scared of leprosy.
In the John Wayne film "Big Jim McLain," Wayne (who also produced the film) played an investigator for The House UnAmerican Activities Committee, invesigating possible Communists. He investigated a woman in Hawaii who admitted that she had attended Communist meetings and, as a form of penance, was working as a nurse on the leper island.
Ive had friends that have eaten armadillo when they were stuck in the desert. They say it tastes really good and that you should approach it from the front and stun it with a rock or a throwing stick.
I don't get how he says the pathogen cant tolerate too hot or too cold temperatures, and yet it can still be passed on through eating cooked armadillos.... Unless they're wrong and it's just the butchering and preparation that people catch it from.
Only 9 banded armadillo carry the disease. Armadillo is one of the tastier meats ive ever had in southern Mexico (along Tejón and Mazate) people there eats em all the time, everyone knows how to cook it. Also had armadillo and wild boar in Florida 😅
So it's ONLY armadillos. But then it's ONLY 9-banded. But then it's squirrels as well. But then it's at least a couple of unidentified animals in Africa. And someone in the comments added alligator and snapping turtles. So yeah, the videos are getting lower quality than they used to be. Research used to be spot-on.
my grandparents told me there used to be a armadillo festival in Red Level Alabama. it was like a big cookout they made all kinds of armadillo recipes.
Farm animals aren't pets though. They are just animals being bred for food. Typically named farm animals produce product and aren't going to be killed for food.
You need to be more careful when choosing your videos, you constantly make errors. In this one, while talking about chimpanzees, you show videos of gorillas at 12:20, and again at 12:54. I dont know how you think that people wont notice!!
I have 9 banded armadillos all around my house & Rat Terrier who chases them off...🤔 I knew they transmit it to us but had no idea all these holes in my yard could potentially contaminate the dirt my dog drags in after investigating them.
I have a theory. A guy got ebola from mating with a gorilla. he survived. but they fed him armadillo cause he didnt have health insurance. so he got leprosy. and decided to go back, hump that gorilla, and give it a taste of its own medicine. 😁
You need to specify that only specific species of armadillo carry it if you're going for an educational video. One passing statement ten minutes in is not enough for the majority of people
Not on its own. It takes so long for it to break out, that a species dying out on its own just from the disease would be a very sufferable and long endevour (several hundred years long). If you are talking about the chimps - no. They are hardy mf's. It's more likely poachers or witchdoctors will kill them.
This is propaganda, if their claim was true a whole lot of people would have leprosy. This aligns with the movement to ban meat, and have people eating GMO or bugs. They bring up 3 cases of leprosy when they are eaten all day all year in many cultures.
Here in Texas during the great depression, armadillos were called Hoover hogs. And helped feed hungry families.
Hoover hogs you say ?........ Would you say that those people that dined on armadillo might have had a similar appetite for haggis ? Or was it somewhat of an acquired taste , do you think? 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐
they would have loved haggis. if it was edible they ate it. lol

Is it the Leprosy. Haven't watched it yet but I'm betting Leprosy.
I've had Armadillo once and it's quite tasty. Didn't know about it's link to leprosy and hopefully that one meal won't result in it.
Same here. I had it one time in Belize. Didn’t know about the leprosy.
