What are some of your favourite De-Essing tricks?
I've honestly learnt that it's better to manually clip gain sibilance in most cases. While that's tiresome, having a light de-esser and then some automation is what gives me the full control I'd like.
Also, saturate after de-essing instead of before
I try to remember how my high siblings sounds naturally , I try to also see how to match it , then add some saturation . I learned something earlier this morning I am strongly anticipating on using .
Once in a while I’ll use two different ones and stage them...
@@johnny_freeman thanks for sharing!
@@yiqwaba3833 thanks ever so much!
Bada-bing! Bada-boom! Just like that, huh? No-brainer!
Haha indeed!
I already have the all access pass. Been with Slate for quite a while, but I'm watching anyway
Marvellous! Thanks for sharing!
Slate always kills it! I had to jump out of the Virtual Mix Rack specifically to De-Ess between another instance of it in my chain, which was inefficient. Love that I can keep that part of my workflow in the VMR now! Thanks for the great demo, Warren!
Thanks for the marvellous comment!
This is awesome! Literally took less than 10 seconds to insert an instance, find the frequency range, and DONE!
Very nice! Exactly my experience too
No cap?
Now we got it! Lol
Haha thanks
I got myself the 500 series hardware version, It works amazingly, and its surprisingly very cheap for a 500 series module.
Thanks ever so much for sharing Miguel!
Me too, it’s on the way in on 95% of my vocals.
@@adamphillips6747 fantastic!
FINALLY....
Haha yes, indeed!
Dang! When you pulled it back to 75% mix that vocal really got sweet.
Fantastic
have been using the current slate de esser in the All Access Pass (plug ins) now there is this new one - awesome for sure - Love Slate products they all seem to work very well
Thanks ever so much for sharing Steve!
I ended up choking on food on the Dbx and coughing part 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha thanks!
Loved the 902… a classic and yes.. a studio rack wouldn’t be complete without a couple of them. Also used on acoustics, cymbals, hhats….. 🎚😄 Well done Slate!!
Thanks ever so much Paul!
Wow. Sounds great. I agree, blend knob is the coolest thing about plugins
I love how simple this is compared to the other de-esser in their bundle (Eiosis). This will definitely be added to my workflow. Great addition!
Eiosis desser is a bomb 💖
@@alexandre7634, oh yes, it can be magical on the right context, but sometimes it's a bit too much 😂
Damn! Slate is always coming up with some cool things! I think for the mixing you could do all with the vmr!
Thanks ever so much
Warren has to try thay soon!
Never heard of de-essing until now and loved how it let you hear the high end bits only. very cool !
Great review on a great product!
Thanks Michael!
Cool! I always have a hard time trying to fix vocals!
Marvellous
Great option for the eco-system! I love the PA version, so having this within the VMR box will be extra convenient
Marvellous! Thanks for sharing
Looks like I need to download the VMR updates. I didn't know the SSL compressor came out either ha
Aha!
Great, I love the DBX 902 !
Slate with another rockin plug in! Thank you!!
Been using the LSR VLB 902 de-esser plugin for years! It was the only 902 style de-esser I could find and it's easily my favourite. I learned of the DBX original from a video of Mick Guzauski talking about how he processed Pharrell's vocals on Get Lucky - one of my go-to reference tracks and I love the bright, airy but silky smooth vocals!
5:30 🤣🤣🤣👊
Haha thanks!
Interesting. I'm a Multiband EQ/Compressor guy when it comes to DEessing tho. Great video. 👍🏾
Groovy great demo. The guitar half way has the same motif as Pray for you a big dance track from early 2000's, wonder if they realise? Cool track
Haha probably not! I don’t know that song off the top of my head!
I’ll have to look it up
Very good De-Esser when used with care.
As with all plug ins! Less is more
@@Producelikeapro Indeed! Mixing is like cooking - too much salt will ruin the dish :)
Sounds like a good plugin and does what it says on the tin. Thanks great video
Yes, indeed
Regarding your comment about the fact that modern plugins have a mix knob which is an advantage compared the hardwares that they emulate, well this is may be true for Protools but certainly not for Logic. In Logic any hardware inserted can be used in parallel with a mix knob plus any stereo hardware unit can be used in left/right or in mid/side mode which is really powerful and a game changer when mixing with outboard gears.
Yes, all DAWs I am aware can mix hardware through inserts, Im referring to hardware itself
I have a dbx520 in my 500 rack and it does get used from time to time, but the advantages of a software version is big.
Great video Warren.
Is that Lily I'm hearing on those vocals? :0?
Yes! It certainly is!
Really awesome review and demo Warren! Love Slate plugins so much! Can’t wait to try this new De-Esser!
I gotta try this
Marvellous
Great as always Warren! Thanks for the update on the scammers out there. I've thought I've won twice before and found out they wanted$ 😥.
That’s ridiculous that they would think someone would pay to win a free prize!
@@Producelikeapro, unfortunately there's plenty of non tech savvy people that fall for those scams, it's awful.
Just saw an Interview with the legendary Eddie Offord the other day, it was on more of a general Music fan media, but would love to hear you pick his brain about some of the amazing records he produced/engineered. Not much out there on him at least to mu\y knowledge.
That's amazing! I would love to interview Eddie Offord!
Love Slate Plugins! Amazing review and demo
Really love Slate Plugins! Amazing review and demo Warren! Can't wait to try this plugin in my mixes! Steven Slate Super Duper Rocks! Entered the giveaway :)
As always, a marvellous review Warren! Cheers!
Thank you for this video!
Great Review (as always), Would be a great complement for my VMS-ML1 and VSX as I still do not own an All Acces Pass :-)
Thanks ever so much Ramon!
I use the eiosis d'esser from the slate subscription, for me it's the best d'esser ever.
It’s really good
What’s the difference
@@gxp958 well You can set an EQ curve for compressing the esses, like not for the trigger but in the de essing action itself, like if de ess the high end it also at same time can can de ess 1K or 500hz or whatever you need.
The DBX 902 is still THE BEST ever. I still keep 2 900 racks around for that reason.
De-essing still gives me fits every time I mix a vocal. It’s such a balance of killing the high end or letting too much annoying S sounds through. So meticulous. I found the waves de-esser to be the easiest to use thus far of all the de-essers I own, always go back to it but this looks to be pretty damn good. May have to give this a go.
I do like that you can tune this, listen to it in solo and just remove what you want
Renaissance Deesser or the standard wave deesser ?
@@johanjof5613 standard wave
Cool, hope they aren't going to remove the Eiosis one from the bundle as that's my current go to (as well as manual clip gain edits)!
The hardware isn’t much more expensive! I use an old unit from 1990 and it’s 🔥🔥🔥
I’m considering a plug-in subscription. If you had to pick one, would you go with Slate or Plug-in Alliance? I know they both make great stuff, but I’m having trouble deciding which is better value for money.
I just love her vocals! Is this album released?
Yes! There’s a Spotify link below the video and you can find it in stores
I don't see a link to Spotify
@@Producelikeapro I must be blind because I cannot find it below the video. But I can google it. I saw on their FB page that they disbanded. Is Lilly still doing music and recording? I would like to follow her in her music endeavors. Really great voice that has a "thing" to it. As you know! :)
Thanks again. Without Produce Like a Pro life just wouldn't be complete.
✅ Wow!
Thanks Audrey!
Real nice
Warren can you explain how a amp or effect is modeled.
There are many different ways they are done!
That's probably best answered by Google, there's not a short answer haha
You forgot to tell us in the notes who this great band you were working on was Warren!?!
Can you do a review of the ssl 2+ interface? Thanksssss
Sensacional
Curious to see if this is useful for acoustic guitar string noise squeaks.
Great demo. Curious about FG-DS 902 vs Soothe2 ??
Very different! Soothe 2 does multiple, unlimited bands. The Slate is a great single band desser!
@@Producelikeapro Thank you!!
@@musiccreation1198 you’re very welcome
Soothe 2 > Any de-esser plug in.
*flame suit: ON*
Haha we love Soothe 2!
What is the difference between a deesser and a dynamiq eq ? I guess just the ease of use for this specific field of removing sibilances ? Sometimes I struggle with the deesser then I go for dynamic eq
Do you have to have a slate microphone to use the Mix rack?
BUT THEY SAY THAT YOU CAN TRY THIS ONE JUST FOR A MONTH IF YOU HAVE THe ALL ACCESS PASS ....
SO IT'S not included ?????
desappointed they change the politic to put everything in the all access ....
so we gonna have to buy it separately ?
am i good ???
Why it needs ilok dongle and not ilok cloud?
Should have used it on your own voice for this video! hahaha But seriously, I do enjoy the Slate stuff! :D
Haha thanks
Watch Dom Siglas's video on a super trick way in cubase
has this even been announced?
Damit no Slate sales for us perpetual licence users.
Tame your Impala
Waves Sibilance is the best De esser out there.
Aggressive vocal, how about aggressive lyrics right at the top. Good thing my kids weren’t around when I watching this 😂
Haha indeed
my kid was but was asking "why is the music stupid?" haha
Already have Lindell Audio 902 De-Esser from Plugin Alliance.
Does the same.
Thanks for sharing!
Yes dude, but if you are a VMR user this is a huge new addition
@@shinomorelloMost of the time you will still use other plugins in parallel and outside of your VR. PA currently costs $30 :-)
The audio could've used a de-esser.
Slate is super overrated, overpriced, requires iLok and the subscription model is pretty meh to me. The best De-Esser IMHO is the free AirWindows one.
Looks nice. But got tired of paying monthly since I only used 3-4 plugins and the balance was tipping towards paying what I don’t need. Bought the 3 plugins and never looked back.
The fabfilter DS just works for me
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks again. Without Produce Like A Pro YT would be a lot less attractive!
