- I took the liberty of putting together some of the beloved Col. Potter's greatest temper flares! Season 10 is where he was at his angriest! Harry Morgan really dials it up here. Enjoy!

If ever have kids who refuse to eat their vegetables, I'll act like Potter.
"PRESENT! FORK!" NOW EAT!"
START SHOVELING!!!!
I can’t understand why so many parents insist that their children eat vegetables, when meat is so much better for us. My mother used to say, “Eat your meat, it’s good for you.” She was wrong about a lot of other things. but dead right on this one.
@@valerietaylor9615 Vegetables are even better for you! THEY have the vitamins and minerals, did you fall asleep in Health Class?! Just ask any doctor, you need to eat BOTH!
@colleen4ever Have you ever heard of the Masai people? They are a tribe of semi-nomadic herdsmen who live in Kenya and Tanzania. They live exclusively on meat and milk - no plant-based foods whatsoever -and are among the healthiest people in the world. They have no heart disease, no diabetes, no high blood pressure, no obesity ( they’re very tall and thin) and no tooth decay. Vegetables are unnecessary for good health, and nutritionists are wrong. So are doctors. And vegetables contain little or no protein. We need protein and fat, not carbohydrates.🥩🥛
Can't go wrong with Col. Potter curses.
Indeed!
I want to see everyone SMILING…
SMILING!!!!
@@GenomePresents lol when bj and pierce had to be moral officers
Nearly fifty years since it debuted, and I still find the, occasional, hidden gem.
They captured lightning in a bottle with that television series.
Another big strength of the show was how much airtime it gave all of the main and semi-main characters over the seasons. With such a large cast, the semi-main characters could have been pushed far into the background, but even the semi-main characters received their own episodes .
@@GenomePresents true there!
I also like how there’s actually two MASHs: Pre Potter & Post Potter.
Pre-Charles and post-Charles.
MASH is a slice of greatness that will never be replaced.
A show that lasted 11 years (corrected), about a war that lasted 3
It was certainly a bright point in t.v., and I feel it was an odd duck in that the latter half of the series was typically better than the first half!
The show lasted 11 years
I just love Potter’s cursing and what most people call “Potterisms”
-Sufferin’ Saddle Soap
-Buffalo Chips
-That is Grade-A, 100% Bull-Cookies!
"MULE FRITTERS! You gotta take it back to HQ!!!"
Potterisms were the best!
There’s a coffee mug with his “Potterisms” on it. You can probably find it online.
Cow cookies!
Horsehockey!
Buffalo Bagels!
HOLY HEMOSTAT!!!
Potter was okay, but he was a bit of a hayseed. I like Col. Blake better. For one thing, he was tall. He had some amusing sayings, too - “absatively”, “goom-bye”, “for croonin’ out loud”, and probably some others I don’t remember.
As angry as he got at times, he was more loveable and caring when it all boiled down. He showed that, yes, even he can get mad, but he knew when to apologize and be the father figure when needed.
Yep. Sometimes, a good leader needs to be stern (or downright cantankerous!) rather than genial. That was Sherman to a T!
@@GenomePresents Sherman to a T "Potter."
I prefer the original cast overall and wish Henry and Trapper had stayed longer, but I do love Potter and Charles and think they were both great additions to the show.
An epic cast of characters, no matter the iteration!
Yeah those two changes practically made one show into two. A while ago I watched a good collection of the Potter and Winchester years and I recently decided to watch it from the beginning and those first couple seasons compared to the later ones it's like a completely different show.
I like the episodes with Charles best ( I didn’t start watching the show until 1977), but the earlier ones were good, too.
@@valerietaylor9615 The Charles years are the best. He and Potter were both great upgrades. BJ on the other hand absolutely sucks.
I know a lot of people preferred Henry, but me being a fan of Dragnet as well I preferred Potter.
MacArthur ain't got nothin' on Colonel Sherman T. Potter!
Can't beat an ex-Cavalry man!
With all of that anger boiling up inside of Colonel Potter, no wonder that he had to be sidelined for a bit, so that his Blood Pressure could come back down to an acceptable level. He smoked Cigars, usually about 10 a day, and he drank. Both of these things are definitely enough to literally kill a person, just by themselves. Add to that, the anger and the stress that he was going through, and we're talkin' about a ticking time bomb here!
The man was walking TNT, and that fuse of his was SHORT!!!
@@GenomePresents Yep! One moment, he was ok...and the next moment:
KA-BLAMMMMMM 🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆!!!
Colonel Potter (Harry Morgan) died at the age of 96, outliving most the cast on the show.
I see you’ve swallowed the Kool- Aid. ( i.e. health propaganda.)
@@robinstewart6510 Potter may have smoked and drank but that doesn;t mean Harry Morgan did
MASH was such a great show! One of the best ever
Truly one of the great ones!
I still find hidden gems every now and then.
One episode, William Christopher is singing a duet with a nurse… he put his hand gently on her shoulder, then abruptly pulled it away. I thought, “there’s something to that”. Turns out the actress was his wife. Christopher, the Husband, made a natural gesture, Christopher, the Actor, retrieved it.
I’ve often wondered if the episode’s director even noticed it.
@@garyowen9044 great catch! I never knew that one!
One of the best? How about the best?
@@valerietaylor9615 that is completely fair. MASH really was amazing.
Rizzo was nearly awarded a battlefield demotion 😂😂😂
What is my grade sergeant, or did someone say CORPORAL?!?
EIGHTY-SIX that ninety-two!
Sergeant, no wonder your breath smells like shine-ola. I’ve been driving since I was SIX! Now step aside and let me at that VEE-HICK-ILL!
PRESENT SPOON!
😆
So many great lines, so little time!
Col.Potter called it like it was.no mistaking what he meant.i liked that.he had a real heart for what really matters the most in life.sure wish there was alot more like SHERMAN POTTER.i've seen a few.thank You for being like HIM.
Sherman shot from the hip and had a heart of gold! Who wouldn't want more Potters in their life?!
That's right, "Colonel Sherman D Potter, M*A*S*H Four-Oh Double-Seven!" 😂🤣😂
He's my favourite fictional Potter, way above Harry Potter and Clarence Potter.
Indeed he was the greatest Potter in all of fiction!
I wonder if any of these characters could be related to each other.
What about Henry F. Potter from It's a Wonderful Life? Boy, THAT man was nasty! But Lionel Barrymore was great in that role.
I don't blame him for getting mad at the gang during a painting session. I wouldn't want to paint with all the yelling!
Me either! I do oil landscapes and peace and tranquility are key ingredients!
“Don’t change the color of your face, I’m out of umber!”
Colonel Potter: What the Sam Hill is going on here? 😄😂🤣
@@TaercEum Potter had to get to the bottom of ANY situation!
I liked the episode where he had to lower his blood pressure. No salt, caffeine, alcohol, cigars or losing his temper for two weeks.
That one was an all-time classic! Towards the very end, where they tell him to sit down and he screams "WHHEEEERRRREEEEE!!!!" cracks me up every time!
I like it when he throws some of the paperwork up in the air, and then says he feels better lol.
No salt, caffeine, alcohol, cigars or losing his temper. That would give anyone high blood pressure.
If it didn’t make him lose his temper first.
YES!!! Very well done! Love it! MORE! MORE! MORE! 👏
There may be more in the works...perhaps....
LOL...Hey Genome! I LUV Colonel Potter so much. He had that realism to him. Reminded me of some Chief Warrant officers I served with, who been around since the Vietnam War. I Always Wished....we got a better storyline when Col Potter retired. However, one that had a totally different storyline from M*A*S*H. I tend to believe/read that M*A*S*H lasted longer than it should have. They had run out of plots, & the show was running on fumes. Harry Morgan was such a versatile actor.
Yeah, I actually watched all of After M.A.S.H a few years ago, and it certainly wasn't a very good sendoff for the character as Col. Potter wasn't even in it much. The last few seasons of M.A.S.H were noticeably weaker than the middle seasons of the series, though Winchestor's character growth was a highlight.
Agreed. Some of the "newer" episodes were actually, in their own ways, kind of like re-runs of some of the older episodes. At times, it got to be a bit much. The show should've ended around 1978 or 1979, especially after Radar O'Reilly left the show.
COW COOKIES!
My favorite one of those was "Mule Fritters!"
“The same logic applies to skivies”. Omg that was funny.
Sherman certainly had a way with colorful phraseology!
It's a wonder he didn't have a stroke or a heart attack in the time he served at the 4077th. Of course in one episode from season 9 he had high blood pressure, which was no surprise given his hot temper and zero tolerance for nonsense with plenty of that happening at the 4077th under his command.
You got that right! Poor Sherm had a cast of characters under his command that would raise anyone's blood pressure!
@@GenomePresents Not the least of whom was Ferret Face.
@@smwca123 Burns alone would raise anyone's BP by 20 points!
@@smwca123 He only had to deal with Ferret Face for two seasons, though.
@@furrykef And then Charles, with his own quirks, for the remaining 6.
If he's that grumpy, you would think the colonel is bi-polar.
Possible. Maybe even probable. He was getting close to retirement, so maybe his tolerance for shennanigans had simply shrunk to near non-existence?!
Sufferin' sheep-dip is another good one.
Potter was a good man, and mostly a nice and considerate one. But angry Potter-better have a hidey hole!
Yep! He was one porcupine that you didn't want to agitate!
More appropriately a foxhole
Henry and Potter were both great but in different ways as was the others that came and went..... I guess I just loved MASH... I still do.
That's the great thing about the show; there are two very distinct phases of it. There are proponents to each, which speaks to the overall quality of the show!
he is a commander of a MASH unit.
This is a unit of Doctors.
He is tired of the foolishness that the Doctors do.
Any commander of a unit will get mad and address that
Klinger (especially) pushed buttons.
Potter didn't ask much of his people, but he sure wouldn't put up with their folderol!
I wonder how he would react to Seattle Grace had he lived to see it!
I must admit I’ve never watched this show but it does look entertaining 👏🏼
It certainly had it's moments!
@@GenomePresents Have a wonderful Thanksgiving ☺️🦃

Colonel Potter: Buffalo Bagels! 🤣🤣🤣
You know as mild as Col Potter was when he started cussing it was about to hit the fan!
This is why I'd want Colonel Blake to be my CO.
Good old Henry; he was a king who mixed well with his troops!
Everyone's friend, but nobody's leader.
Colonel Henry Blake was much more down to Earth, as a Company Commander.
@@markmiller3713 Certainly not of Frank and Margaret, who schemed to get Henry removed - then cried when they heard he was killed. I wonder if they ever felt any guilt over that.
i remember when Potter went bezerk when white phosphorus was used in the war.
Seeing that I outrank mommy lol eat your strawberry ice cream Charles
Col. Potter wasn't having any of Charles' balderdash!
@@GenomePresents Great logs of Limburger lol
@@TheIggypop1 Great Horny Toads!
Ya just had to love Ol' Sherm. Oops! I shoulda said Colonel Sherman T. Potter
Remember the episode, where Corporal Klinger was actually trying to mimic the way that Colonel Potter signed his name, so that he could falsify some documents, and get out of the Army? Well... Colonel Potter,in a kind way, of course, told Corporal Klinger that Klinger put too much swoop on the "T"!
Klinger needed a pass, just to get back into the Army! He was forever trying to get out of the Army, by whatever means that were at his disposal. Then-In the last regular episode, he gets promoted to Sergeant Klinger! I'd be almost willing to bet, that nobody saw that one coming. I certainly didn't!
@@ronaldshank7589 yep seen it a million times that was a great one . Bj was trying to stop him throws it in the trash and tries again Funny what Klinger wrote .. I try everyday not to blow my stack.
To be fair, look at the characters he has to deal with.
That group would raise ANYONE'S blood pressure!

Another wards Don't mess with a Pissed Off Potter!!
Truer words were never spoken!
@@GenomePresents Thanks!! Still a great Colonel though.
Harry Morgan was THE perfect fit for this show!! I know I can be in the minority, but I much preferred him to Mr. Stevenson
I'm with you; They really nailed it when they added Potter and Winchester to the series.
D A M N
This world could seriously use some strong male leadership right now.
You can say that again...THRICE!!!
Can't say I blame him. Anyone having to put up with Hawkeye, B.J., and Klinger's antics would make anybody ballistic.
Having to keep those characters in check would drive ANY commander batty!
Which episode is it when Colonel Potter gets mad at Hawkeye for releasing his patient, Fisher?
That would be the episode "Pressure Points" (season 10, ep. 15). Enjoy!
@@GenomePresents Thank you
@@Mockingjay1764 You are very welcome. Thanks for stopping by the channel!
@@GenomePresents That was where Potter continued his tirade at that captain who was lecturing about white phosphorus, asking: "If they can invent better ways of killing each other, why can't they invent a way to end this STUPID WAR???" He was near tears on the last 2 words, and called in Sidney Freedman.
@@smwca123 Yep, that's the one!
Col. Potter rules. I prefer the new cast. Frank drove me nuts and i definitely preferd BJ over Trapper.
