I wish there weren't a race for Triumphs - unless there is a significant compensation if one fails to be the first (no two historical civs tried to build the same Triumph). I like how Humankind handled this, though there are other good ways.
I agree, I wish it was a race for the requirements to build a Triumph. For example, Great Lighthouse: be the first to have harbours in 2 cities, 2 ship units, and to accumulate a set number of stones, and to pay a sum of money to start building it. That's of course not a dealbreaker for Ara, but I wish they also innovated on it compared to the Civ formula.
Yeah, I feel like gathering materials and starting to build the triumph should be enough to claim it. Nobody was racing to build the Sistine Chapel. Everything else in this video looks and sounds great.
I think a race for triumphs is OK, i wouldm add a TRIUMPH counter though, like i alredy achieved a triumph BUT other players have 10 turns counter to stop me or otherwise i win :3 this way it forces me to defend my triumph and not full rush to a certain type of victory.
Glad to see a new dev diary! It will be interesting to see new take on monuments/landmarks/wonders/triumphs. Still hoping to get a chance to test this before it releases, I'm too impatient!
I’m loving the design features. As someone who has studied Babylon thought it would be interesting if the devs would consider modeling the hanging gardens after the western outworks theory though. A lot of hanging gardens look basically the same in all these strategy games. It would be great if the wonders in this game strove for authenticity. That really wouldn’t be an issue with most wonders, but almost everyone gets the hanging gardens wrong.
Hopefully they give us access to some cool mod tools and some dev tools to make modding easier, there's a lot of potential for modding in this game like in PDX games. Would love to make something like Rise of Mankind or Realism Invictus from Civ 4.
Why is the first thing someone says as a reaction to a game in development : 'I can't wait to see the mods'. You in your head you're already done with the game before you played it. I don't get why people jump over learning and playing a game straight into wishing for mods. It's like you already told yourself this game won't be what you want, no matter what. Of course there will be mods for this game, the devs want the game to be heavily moddable.
The only thing that throws me off about the art/design of the triumphs as shown in this video is how some of them look so cramped into the urban landscape around them; to me it looks wierd seeing a lot of people living right next to the Great Pyramid, for example. If nothing else can be built in the region, I think some of these things could use a buffer zone (either empty or filled with trees, gradens, etc.) where it makes sense.
Go Google maps and check modern pyramids in Cairo, there is a reason you get them only from one angle. If you switch perspective, they are now inside of Cairo. The times, were a desert were between Cairo and pyramids, long gone.
Glad to see new developments. Do Triumphs (not the motorcycle) get useless when disctrict is conquered? (as usually happens un real history) Could it be possible?
Eloquent and with great clarity, thanks!

@@CausticSpace modders WILL spend 500+ hrs making medieval only mods to play in Game of Thrones or Warcraft, we just need the tools for it

If another nation beats you creating a triumph, what happens to any resources you put into it?
I an older dev diary I though I heard that they would be refunded, so I guess you can use them for other projects.
