  • March 2024 stock video sales were my highest so far at $1,257. This is a new record for me, but I know a lot of you are doing even better.
    Let's help other creators get there. Please post your average earnings or your highest month. What tips do you have for those of us still learning?
    After publishing this, I received a note from Backbox founder and CEO Pat McGowan. He told me datasets are earnings from when companies use your video footage for non-media uses like self-driving vehicles, medical diagnostics and other computer learning. Sorry for the misinformation. The use case that I gave may be the case in the future.

    Thanks for sharing. It's good to know how others are doing. I have 2088 clips uploaded and average a little $400/month. Last month was $616. The month before was just over $400. For this month, I sold a shot of a sandwich (which I shot on a whim before wife took a bite out of it) for $207. You just never know what will sell but I do recommend doing some research for underserved markets.

      @@DartisticProductions I have a videographer/producer who's been shooting for decades so I was able to havest my library of clips right off the bat to get 400--500 clips so that made my start easy. I'd say within 4-5 months, I started making sales regularly and around the 2 year mark, was making $400-600 a month. That said this month, I project only $250-300 in sales. Sometimes you just have slow months.

    Thanks for the openness about your earnings, just straight to the point! Just got my BB application approved yesterday and reading up on all this stuff. Been into photography for 24 years and video for about 6 years but never gave stock footage a go, at least not very dedicated. Thanks again for the video and nice to hear that stock footage is not dead because of AI :)

      I am earning more every month. But it can feel discouraging when you get so many $2 sales. Still the big ones come in so the overall profits are fine. It’s not easy and I feel a little burned out. As I take a break for a few months, I’ve still be averaging $900. The first few years of regular uploads are still paying with $120 in sales just today(although that only happens a couple times a month). Best of luck. You have more experience than I. I recommend you put aside time each week and focus on content and not sales at first. The sales come down the road. So glad I could help with the strategy. You don’t need help with the content.

    It's the third year I'm on BB, didn't spent enough time on it...at the moment the average income is 30 dollars per month with 800 random clips, now I started uploading content that I do exclusively for stock!

    Fantastic update and really encouraging results there. Well done! I started uploading in February 2019 but only got to uploading much more in November 2021 when I moved back to Sydney from a country town. Have over 2000 vids each on three of my four ports. Started hitting over $1k a month in June 2023 and (with exception of Dec 23 and Jan 24) have hit over $1k per month every month since. Best month to date was $2066 in September 2023.

    01:57 you said a thousand dollars a month is not difficult to obtain. How does it work? About how many videos do you need for this goal?

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald  4 месяца назад +2

      It takes time and a lot depends on the quality of your clips and the demand for the type of content you upload. The number of clips is the least important indicator. For example, if you shoot medical or science content, that is going to generate different sales than if you shoot cooking content. Every person’s portfolio looks different and has a different trajectory. One person I work with has just over 2,000 clips online and he makes well over $1,300 a month. I have 6,000 clips (nature, senior lifestyle, travel) and this is my first month at that level of income after 6 years of uploading. It takes time and work and then it depends on what you upload.

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald  4 месяца назад +3

      In six years, just over 6,000 clips. I have a few friends who earn more with far fewer clips. It depends on what you have access to - what you shoot - the quality, the demand, etc.The number of clips is the least important indicator of what you will earn.

    Going to test out Blackbox for a year, started in June of this year and I have over 500 clips online so far. I have gotten a few sales, but when do you think it starts to grow? I shoot 4K drone videos of nature and urban shots, also random everyday things like cooking etc. with good lighting and angles.

    As my go-to regarding Blackbox I thought I'd ask you about this. Do you ever use batch processing for metadata? In the guide there is a section on CSV/XLS method. Are you familiar with this and if so is there a chance you could do a tutorial on it? I've read it several times and I'm pretty computer literate but still don't get it. Thanks.

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald  3 месяца назад

      Steve - this is a method by which you type the keywords in a spreadsheet and then you sync the spreadsheet to the clips and all the keywords are automatically added. I don’t like it because if there are any mistakes in the batch or clip names, you get errors. Then you find yourself searching for the missing “.” or some other minor typo. The advantage is that you have keywords that you can easily reuse and adjust for similar clips. To me, it is a big hassle and I don’t find any advantages worth the headache. If you want the advantages without the headache, keep a file of keywords that based on topic that you can refer to and adjust to the specific clips. I hope this is helpful.

    Do you by chance know how much on average per month you earned when you had about 1000 clips uploaded ?

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald  Месяц назад

      @@so_l6441 - I made $140 a month. But that doesn’t say much. It greatly depends on the quality and niche. I have a friend with less than 1,500 clips who makes well over $1000 a month on Blackbox. He is very deliberate, only uploads quality footage, and has a unique niche. The number of clips you have is only one indicator of what you can earn. I have zero training and my first 1000 clips were awful. My advice is to focus on quality and diversity of subjects until you find something you love and that sales. I do more and more astrophotography time lapses. I couldn’t be happier. Tools me years to find what I had passion for and the sales pay for all my trips. Best of luck. Anyone can do this. I am proof of that.
