March 2024: Record High Stock Video Sales!!!
March 2024 stock video sales were my highest so far at $1,257. This is a new record for me, but I know a lot of you are doing even better.
Let's help other creators get there. Please post your average earnings or your highest month. What tips do you have for those of us still learning?
After publishing this, I received a note from Backbox founder and CEO Pat McGowan. He told me datasets are earnings from when companies use your video footage for non-media uses like self-driving vehicles, medical diagnostics and other computer learning. Sorry for the misinformation. The use case that I gave may be the case in the future.

Stock Video and Working with a Curator: Organization

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald 16 дней назад

      @@so_l6441 - I made $140 a month. But that doesn’t say much. It greatly depends on the quality and niche. I have a friend with less than 1,500 clips who makes well over $1000 a month on Blackbox. He is very deliberate, only uploads quality footage, and has a unique niche. The number of clips you have is only one indicator of what you can earn. I have zero training and my first 1000 clips were awful. My advice is to focus on quality and diversity of subjects until you find something you love and that sales. I do more and more astrophotography time lapses. I couldn’t be happier. • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald 2 месяца назад

      $1,040 the first year. Not sure how much that helps without context. I was a beginner. Zero experience (and still no training outside of RUclips tutorials). I uploaded all kinds of trash. Back then BB didn’t have an approval process. On the other hand, there was far less competition then. One of my videos goes back through my earning each year. I’m over $30k now and $900 average a month. The first year was 2018. I guarantee your content is better. I curated for a guy who has a small fraction of the clips I have and he averages $1,200 a month. You need quality and quantity. Focus on setting aside specific time each week - like a job. Just keep at it. It grows. I’m getting burned out and don’t feel like uploading now. It will pass but the point is, I still make $900 a month every when not trying anymore. I’ll get back on it in a few months. Changing job location and need to focus on that and family. I’ll be back eventually with more content. Meanwhile, I am an open book for questions.

      I am earning more every month. But it can feel discouraging when you get so many $2 sales. Still the big ones come in so the overall profits are fine. It’s not easy and I feel a little burned out. As I take a break for a few months, I’ve still be averaging $900. The first few years of regular uploads are still paying with $120 in sales just today(although that only happens a couple times a month). Best of luck. You have more experience than I. I recommend you put aside time each week and focus on content and not sales at first. The sales come down the road. So glad I could help with the strategy. You don’t need help with the content.

    As my go-to regarding Blackbox I thought I'd ask you about this. Do you ever use batch processing for metadata? In the guide there is a section on CSV/XLS method. Are you familiar with this and if so is there a chance you could do a tutorial on it? I've read it several times and I'm pretty computer literate but still don't get it. Thanks.

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald 2 месяца назад

      Steve - this is a method by which you type the keywords in a spreadsheet and then you sync the spreadsheet to the clips and all the keywords are automatically added. I don’t like it because if there are any mistakes in the batch or clip names, you get errors. Then you find yourself searching for the missing “.” or some other minor typo. The advantage is that you have keywords that you can easily reuse and adjust for similar clips. To me, it is a big hassle and I don’t find any advantages worth the headache. If you want the advantages without the headache, keep a file of keywords that based on topic that you can refer to and adjust to the specific clips. I hope this is helpful.

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald 4 месяца назад

      It takes time and a lot depends on the quality of your clips and the demand for the type of content you upload. The number of clips is the least important indicator. For example, if you shoot medical or science content, that is going to generate different sales than if you shoot cooking content. Every person’s portfolio looks different and has a different trajectory. One person I work with has just over 2,000 clips online and he makes well over $1,300 a month. I have 6,000 clips (nature, senior lifestyle, travel) and this is my first month at that level of income after 6 years of uploading. It takes time and work and then it depends on what you upload.

    What is the percentage of editorial clips you sell per month?

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald 4 месяца назад

      This month, 18%. But it also matters what you shoot. I was in Sudan during a coup. I was in Iraq when ISIL was attacking - those clips were hot for a while. Editorial can also be just the name of a bank or something but if it is in the news…. Ivan Canabrava shoots 80% editorial and 80% of his sales are editorial. The answer to your question is not going to help you create clips that sell. Shoot interesting clips and they will sell regardless of if they are editorial or commercial. Commercial clips do have a higher overall value because they can be licensed for anything. Best of luck.

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald 4 месяца назад

      It comes standard with supports for both sides of the slider that connect to the tripod legs - or you can easily use two tripods. I have never had it sink or sag at all. I always use a tripod that can support the weight, of course.

    hi sir what trigger cable do i need i have a nikon z9 and i dont understand why you dont need the trigger from zeapon? it al is so complicated i think you trigger the slider with a huttercable for day to night timelapses?

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald 5 месяцев назад

      I don’t have a Nikon but I believe they work with a 10-pin cable. So, you would need a 1 x 2.5mm Male input on one side of the cable with a Nikon 10-Pin on the other. In the US, these are available for under $10 on Amazon or at B&H.

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald 5 месяцев назад

      I don’t use the trigger. I have it but have found it better to not use it. If I go day to night, I set the slider waypoints for the duration of the time lapse. Then I set the camera settings with an intervalometer. The motion is so slow that even if I have a 15 second shutter, there is no motion blur. The slider is moving 70 centimeters in 2-3 hours. It works. You can see my find my Milky Way time lapses and see that they work. Just try it. You will see. Good luck and thanks for watching.

      I have used it with a small gimbal, the OSMO pocket 3. I set the slider and then I have the gimbal do follow mode - like on a person. It works okay, but I like the pons system better. Hello, is it possible to make 3 points keyframes, and then something like ease them? For example, A - ease out B - continuous bezier C - ease in, i am asking because i saw videos where it just stops in point B instead of making it smoothly to point C without stopping.

    • @boycefitzgerald
      @boycefitzgerald 6 месяцев назад

      This is something Zeapon has said they would do but for now at least the waypoints do ease in and out but you cannot control it and if you have more than two waypoints, it does stop at each one before moving to the next. I mostly do time lapses so it makes not difference to me. But for video, it would be great to have that control option.
