  • The UNU Geothermal Training Programme (UNU-GTP), based in Iceland, assists developing countries with significant geothermal potential to establish groups of specialists in geothermal exploration and development by providing specialized training opportunities.
This video examines the state of geothermal energy in El Salvador and explains how the UNU has been assisting with the development of this vital energy resource.

I didn't know El Salvador had such a great geothermal plant. Thank you for sharing!

In the United States a relatively small percentage of electricity is generated thru geothermal means. Mostly in California and the west because that is where the high temp water lies closest to the surface. My government does not seem too excited about geo's potential. The binary method could be used in massive areas now relegated to fossil fuel production of electricity. We have spent vast fortunes "developing" solar and wind energy, NEITHER of which has geo's potential. Unsurprisingly our elected officials have given HUGE monetary gifts to the companies fronting solar and wind and have RECEIVED huge gifts in return. {{SEE OBAMA AND SOLYNDRA}}} You see here our problem. It is nothing new. Our elected officials of both major parties are CROOKS, whose sole interest is in feathering their own nests. Iceland, Norway, El Salvador and many other countries put the U.S. to shame with regard to clean renewable energy. And our politicians and media have the GALL to speak of South America as third world. As a US citizen it makes me ILL. I salute those who are DOING what needs done, while we here talk and make VERMIN rich.

@@tomswinburn1778 Nope, Trump likes geothermal. A lot of conservatives do because it would get us away from foreign oil, something many liberal politicians are heavily invested in, like pharmaceuticals. It's libs protesting that stops new geothermal plants. AKA useful idiots. Apaches near Jemez Caldera were going to buy the land and do this, but coke nose billy jumped on it and confiscated the caldera for another useless national park.

In just 2 years of the mandate of President Nayib Bukele, the country has had substantial growth in all aspects, safety, health, education, employment.✌👍👏

They should keep some Tesla batteries for back up power so they won't worry so much about shutting down for maintenance.

Rather than spending billions of dollars by subsidizing illegal aliens who should not be in the country in the first place, the United States should be funding programmes such as these in Central America. With the extremely competent government of President Nayib Bukele in charge, this would be the perfect time to assist El Salvador's educational, business, infrastructure and energy sectors.

Hopefully El Salvador will one day be a country that uses 100% renewable energy like Costa Rica.
