- Hey guys!
I'm a short rider and decided to make this video to help out others who are either looking to ride or want some tips to make bike selection easier. I'm 5'4" with a 28" inseam and have been riding for about 3 years now. I wish someone had given me these tips when I had first started.
Something you touched on here was to be a bit confident when handling the bike. When I first started riding, even though I had a light bike, I kept being too gentle with it while moving it around or walking it, especially off road. This led to a couple of funny drops. I’ve since learned to be more assertive when handling a bike. I’m not a big tough guy and you don’t necessarily have to be a brute about it, but you have to show the bike whose boss, lol.

Tyler Campbell I sold my TW to get an R3 since my commute to work is a bit far and has a good freeway section. Where I live, this has turned out to be more useful for me and I get to ride much more. I love my bike. But I tell you, I still miss my TW everyday. Those bikes are so awesome. They’re perfect for a beginner but they’re also super fun after gaining experience. They have such character, are incredibly forgiving, and super easy to maintain. She’s gonna love it!
Or your work boot lace gets caught on shifter and you can't put your foot down at red light and fall over .......
Dr650 in it's lowered setting , with a seat concepts low seat is pretty darn low. The weight may not be an issue for a guy or healthy woman. ✌

How tall are you and how tall is the bike you were on in the video? I'm about 5'6" and 175lbs. I was thinking about a KLX250, but worried about seat hight.
im the same height and have a 27 inch inseam but alot heavier. I recently sat on both the KLX300sm and a XT250. Keep in mind the 300sm is alot lower then a dual sport version of it or the older 250 models. And I found that even with my weight making the rear sag the KLX300sm was just a bit too tall for me to comfortably get both feet down, and was resorting to only one foot down, and even then it wasnt a flat foot but just the balls of my feet. The store also had the XT250 from yamaha that this guy has, and I can honestly say its night and day difference. The XT250 was low enough I got both feet down with the balls of my feet touching. And I could flat foot with one leg. Plus the bike was so light it felt like I was sitting on a heavy bicycle or something, and was nothing like the harley street 500 they had us on for the MSF course. That being said, if your going for the supermoto setup on the KLX and bought a seat concepts low seat you would only be sat up one inch taller, so you could easilly adjust the suspension to get that last inch out of it and be at the same height as the XT250. But thats for the supermoto which has smaller tires and a lower height to begin with. I didnt even try getting on the KLX300 at the dealership because I could just look and see it was too tall for me. And brought back memories of me sitting on a Drz400 with the low gel seat, which I couldnt hardly tip toe one leg with.
For you personlaly id probably recommend the XT250 if your doing alot of trails or want a true dualsport. If your just looking for the dirt bike style or are actually looking for a supermoto then id say the KLX with some mods would probably work too, and is the direction im currently leaning :) hope this helps even if its a few years late!
