Thank you to everyone for the advice! The cheekbones were too accentuated, so I ended up airbrushing some white over the top of the weathering and it ended up looking incredible! (Photo posted on my channel page). I also do apologize for the weird 5 minutes of black, my Adobe Premiere Pro software will randomly do that when rendering and I was dumb and didn't notice it till it was uploaded. Also, an airbrush is NOT required for this paintjob. In my opinion, it would probably be easier to hand paint the flesh tone and white on top similarly to my H18 Masks.

Actually, there are cheaper ways to get an airbrush, Walmart sells some air compressor's for $35, and other places, like fleet farm, sell the airbrush for $13.99

I decided to buy an airbrush as well and give it a try, definitely a lot harder than I expected and took tons of trial and error. I'm still learning to use it. They do sell pre mixed latex paint for those who don't want to mix it themselves. Monster Makers and Justin Mabry's brand Night Shades for those who are interested. They recommend using external mix airbrushes so they don't clog as easily. Might be cheaper in the long run to mix your own though, I'm just lazy.

Just throwing out a theory, but... I think pre-ordering the mask means they put more effort into the paint. I pre-ordered mine and I don't have nearly as bad a hairline as the ones I've seen and my paint is there but mostly subtle. My copy I'd give an A- easily, very few flaws for me other than hair patches...

But my preordered 1978 finally came (they were holding back for my resin knife that never showed) and it looks very poor to me. Plain white kinda glossy and no character at all. I need a repaint

Video was a big help thanks. I’m expecting my 78 Myers mask and from the pictures I’ve seen I’m expecting to at least black wash and paint some skin tone on mine, simply to wash out the high shine of the mask. Keep on slashing 🤘

Just did this mask myself… and I must say I’m so glad I decided to research a little more before sealing it. I rehaired my h40 that I did and hated it so I decided to leave the hair on this one alone, but I will definitely be doing this easy fix to make it look that much better. Also the dry brushing of the cheek bones is something I didn’t think of doing.

question regarding the wash, when i did a wash it literally stained my white paint job and created a weird grey smear, am i supposed to repaint it or is there something im doing wrong
I like the the way you did it and its a good way of doing it but all you need is to spray it white then the darkens will make pop out and give it contrast and shadow .

it wasn’t fish belly white it was appliance white. one of the guys that helped make the mask remade it in a video and spray painted it with appliance white.

When you wipe the mask down with paint thinner and it gets a tacky feeling does it eventually evaporate and no longer smell like thinner once you paint over it? I feel like i've ruined my h2 mask:(
Yes! It's scary the first time, and the mask will feel 'gummy'. It will go back to normal overnight. If you can, place it on a styrofoam head or head base to dry
Just picked up this mask and the hairline IS a bit wonky. Gonna try your latex/hair folding technique. Thanks for the trick (low hanging fruit, gotta go for it) and treat!

Man I screwed mine right up lol I tried a dark grey wash and wipe off with paper towel and the latex would clump a bit and peel in some areas making it textured and ruining it. It needed up looking too dark so I tried to get the paint off and didn’t have remover, Grier water, alcohol, he’ll even brake cleaner and the rubberish texture was not eating to come off. So I had to repaint the damn thing white and my brushes are all leaving little textured lines 🤦🏻♂️ I can get rid of the lines now let alone get to the cheekbones lips and eyebrows. Guess I need and air brush 🤦🏻♂️ Maybe I’ll try a sponge to paint it.
Unlike the Jason Voorhees mask the money for them you're pretty much can find on the floor of course I'm talking about the dollar ones on eBay or in stores

How did you get the new latex to stick? Most store bought masks have a shiny finish and paint rubs right off.

Fun fact they didn’t leave the skin tone at all. The paint just rubbed off where Nick castle would grab the mask when taking it off and putting it on.
