EDIT: We should mention when GoWesty are building a vehicle for off-roading they typically remove the under-slung propane tank and we thought twice about adding one ourselves. However, for long distance travelers like us an under-slung tank is ideal because we don’t need to worry about exchanging tanks as we travel to different countries and we can find fill up locations at many standard AutoGas fuel stations.

as a paraplegic i must say i love the fact i can explore my world beyond my city thanks to you two and everyone else that makes this possible, im really excited and looking forward to our future adventures
stoked to have you with us on the journey mate
I would love to hear from Gowesty on how many more overland adventurers have approached them for help all because of what they have done for you guys. You're awesome. Be safe and happy travels! Looking forward to the next episode.
YES, as i commented in late 2018: traveling in a vintage bus is part of the challenge. Buying a new bus would have ripped of most of the excitement of your journey/channel. Congrats for your decision, i love watching your adventures!!
Can't wait to see how this Kombi does on the world's roads!🤠

*DRIVING AROUND THE WORLD SERIES* ruclips.net/p/PL3-CFitnEZXon01THWh1vEKDv5MPkuNnp
okay
I can't wait to see where it goes now once it has all the upgrades! Can't wait to watch all the epic adventures!
You said Boomerang is part of the challenge, but he is also part of the charm, a BIG part. I wouldn't have started watching your videos if you had been driving one of those boring SUVs or box trucks. Now I am hooked on your videos. Happy Travels. :D
As an old car fan, traveling across the continent (or in this case numerous continents) its pretty much the ultimate bragging rights to say tou drove 30,000 miles in your classic. The only thing that would scare me at all is in some of those nations like vietnam or India where they drive absolutely terrible but I guess thats part of the adventure.
Awesome build guys, alot of genius solutions and alot of work you put into this. Wish you all the best!
Cheers
The swing aways are great with the reservation about it sticking out into traffic if you have to pull to the side of the road on a busy spot.
watch out, they can steal that solars easily
From a fellow vintage vdub owner, “driving a 46 year old van around the world might not be the smartest choice”, but it is the greatest choice.
Seriously, GoWesty are EPIC LEGENDS, they need the Nobel Prize for..., well just for being legends and allowing the dream to live on!!! LEGENDS [Clinton Sydney Australia]
beautiful kombi, beautiful couple, beautiful life...... Happy journey 🚌🚌
Just a suggestion for your Jerry can. Get the pads that go on the weird X indent on the can. Helps with micro sanding through the sides and rattles too. Just a suggestion. Love your mods.
Great video peeps . Go Westy have done you a favour in helping you sort your rig out and good of you to give them plenty o plugs , ha ha .
Looking 4ward to next vlog .
Fanx for sharing
:-D
hi guys now I noticed that you have no license plate lights in the Netherlands that is an obligation greetings Arjen
It's nice to hv kind friends/business people
So impressed with what you guys are doing.
This is the first time I saw kmobi life 9n RUclips!
welcome to Kombi Life
Hi guys! What a crazy cool idea - driving around the world. Its a dream of million people. When will you visit Spain, please, inform me! Me and my friend, we are really crazy about VW vans. We would wish to know you! We have our little place of classic car restoration. Sure you will love it!
Thank you happy travels, Happy New year!!!
Same to you Jacy
Lol thought he was Benedict Cumberbatch for a split second haha
Jad is the man! he has a great channel and the support the VW Harvest!
You guys are BOSSIN big time!this has been my fav bus 🚌 out of allllllll the buses.such a beautiful bus.I hope you guys keep this one ☝️!you. Guys need to get married in that bus that’d be rad!thank you for the video guys!
LOL, I do a lot of work with Veterans (I'm one myself though I went in 5 months before the Vietnam war ended) and WWII Veterans who returned to France in the 1990s early 2000s always commented on the French still using Jerry cans GIs tossed all over the countryside for multiple purposes. Good choice there.
love your vids - it's crazy how you're equipped for off the grid living but are also visibly active on grid
It is the Journey that is the excitement!! Thanks Guys!
Best Evening in the week. A video of la vagabonde and a video from you. #justawsome
This is by far the best equipped VW camper van I've ever seen. You can tell that you guys have plenty of overlanding experience and the expertise to build a rig like this. 👍🏼😉
Wow I have a box on the back of my 74 bay but it wobbled so I took it off. Mine was swing away too. But I like the high poles and gutter clamps. Clever idea. I travel around Australia. So a jerrycan is a must but never seen one on the side .
Yeah the gutter clams are needed. Same design as GoWesty. The Jerry can on side worked fine in case you were wondering.
Hi - you need to put some rubber under the fuel can - steel on steel is not good - love your videos!
So awesome trip you had! That swing out carriers are perfect!
After hearing what they did for you, wish I had a VW just so I could visit the GoWesty people.
Yeah they are very sound people.
Are you guys time travelers?
@@KombiLife Can any van build be called a Kombi?
Gowesty is awesome, but bring your wallet - it's the highest end option for bus and (mostly) Vanagon parts and accessories.
@gowestycampers is the best!
Ben you didn't say a word about the engine, i consider that the best addition to the bus...
There's a whole episode on the engine alone. Go look it up.
Such a badass Jerry Can!! 😎 xx
Great mods, excellent work.
Happy Camping
That swing away system is just remarkable!
This is incredible and you guys give me such inspiration on traveling further than the usual paths in my travels once I finish the build! Love the video, new subscriber here:)
In the States, we call that tool a stud finder. Used to find studs behind sheetrock walls. FWIW.
I wasn't sure if Ben didn't know what to call it or if he was trying to avoid the double entendre (finding the "stud" / himself).
...HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU..GREAT VID..
I really want to go to Go Westy now!
The Mecca of the VW Camper world :)
nice update video guys, keep up the good work greetings from Amsterdam
It's like a real life badmobile!!!
Seems you are afraid to start the adventure ... grab Alaska, jump in the van and kick down the Pedal ... have fun 😉
Already on the road.
Those panels and their mounting hardware probably also adds some more roof ridged'ity back after opening up the roof by your predecessor.
Great video guys!
thanks for watching
Good to review this video. Boomerang’s build has so many innovations. Any update on survival of said additions today?🌿
I think everything survived, we ditched the highlight jack for a more lightweight alternative. And never got around to installing the winch, nor needing it really. Bumper needed reinforcing.
@@KombiLife Doing a little reenforcing myself after my crash last month. Got a few ideas from revisiting this vid. 🌿
Eamon and Bec are heading to Morocco would love a meet up video..please..great,great video as always !
we'll keep an eye out or them
Nice to see Appreciation #gowesty
you guys are awsome
you need to invite me on your next baja
Love Go Westy!
Ripper video. See you in Oz. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Nice ad
Nice video, thanks for sharing!
Great job guys. Just be sure and let me know if you give this one away!
ha ha - it sure would be hard to give away Boomerang
@@KombiLife Nah, you guys have given me quite a lot over the years. I'm impressed, and thrilled for you. Safe travels, and great job.
Great video as usual :)
Did be a little worried about expansion and heat with black Jerry can on its side specially in desert hot climate
Cool videos man💯💯👌👍
I recommend upgrading your padlocks, you can check the lockpicking lawyer to see why.
Gelert!!!!!
PS Ben, please don't lose it, dude. Do not ever become a regular mainland Briton, LOL. (Okay, little risk of that. Thank you.)
love you guys
Never put teflon tape on a compression fitting it might keep the fitting from seating the way it is supposed to....check for leaks with soap solution..........looks like quite the overland machine...
Hi how are you? You need to do a certificate to install the rear storage?
How did you paint the aluminum box black? Which color did you use? Thanks
Luv ur vids
13:21 *headdesks*
I know this is a little random.. But how is Alaska doing with her seatbelt?
why is it safer to have the spare tyre in the back instead of the front?
you had that detector on I-beam not wood. worked though
As much as I like those 20 L jerry cans (I've got three).. I wouldn't trust the seal led down as far as I could throw it!
0:05 hmm the kombi is British now? :) Registration plate!
You state in this video that having the spare wheel on the back is a lot saver than on the front. Can you explain why?
It impacts the (albeit limited) crash / crumple characteristics that were designed in by VW
OMG can't wait for you guys to come to ASIA will you be passing by Jakarta Indonesia? I hope so, i mean you did mention that you'll be passing Malaysia in one of your videos but why not travel a bit further south to Indonesia. 😁👍
Would love to
Great information. I am still curious what brand, style and size of tires you chose.? Maybe the answer is in an upcoming episode....😉
yep all coming out this week, stay tuned
@@KombiLife Love it.... Thank you...😀
it would be great if GoWesty offered those bumpers for baywindow busses.
I'm sure there would be a few people who would like one. Honestly they are great - all Vanagons (T25s) should have them installed.
We are very close to releasing our bus swing away system. You can expect to see them available within a few months!
GoWesty Camper Products - that’s fantastic. If you need someone to do some trail testing I’ll put one through some heavy use and report my findings 😉
A small block Chevy engine would help.
A newer LS 5.3 or the old school 350? Probably the only car I haven't seen a GM small block wedged into although I have never looked, I am sure there is a million of them. I Definitely wouldn't be wondering if it has the power to push around all the gear anymore.
Please can you convince your friends at #gowesty to add that rear bumper and spare carrier to their online store, i would love on for my type 2. Looks like they only sell it for vanagons T25! Not sure what postage to Perth (Aus) would be though
;)
You should have said earlier, we could have brought you one, we're headed your way 😉
8:18 might wanna blurr that
Lmfao you clearly have never seen a dude working on a car before...
I thought the build season was over
Travel videos on Thursday, see you then.
Hope to be doing the same, but on a Ural in a few years. Been enjoying, for a while, and will enjoy your trip!
Why a Ural? Because I R Stoopud....
but what an adventure James - love your style!
Stud finder is what we yanks call ‘em. I see Imperial Beach in this vid.
Our US 2nd home 😃
Solar panels are more expensive than jerry cans, and a target for thieves. Hope you are also locking them down!
I thought the same thing when I saw the quick detach on it.
Those are some awesome mods, they will surely help with life on the road. I'm curious about the weight of the vehicle, have you weighed it with all the mods and all your gear and you?
yep - we talk more about that in part 2 (this sunday)
We have a T5 VW California and we can carry just over 500kg but when you put a family of four in it, food, bikes, body boards, roof box, clothing, all our camping gear and variety of other paraphernalia the weight soon adds up. I’m pretty sure we’ve never been overloaded but we have been close to the margin. We’ve been all over Europe and no one has ever checked our vehicle weight, I reckon the authorities are only really concerned with goods vehicles. Safe travels guys, loving the videos.
U guysss rockkkkk
Can you put fuel legally in a black can in all the countries you are visiting? It needs to be red in the States.
I would be worried that jerry can will have holes rubbed in it over time, maybe think about putting a piece of rubber or something for it to rest on
it is well protected with rubber already in the purpose made carrying container we that came with it from jerrycans.co.uk. Thanks for thinking of that though.
Do you have a winch to get you out of dicey situations?
Talking about the winch in part 2 (out on Sunday)
So, serious question.
If you break down on the side of the road. Is there any way to take the swing an off? As you might not always have enough space on the side of the road to have a swing arm hanging out the side of the van.
thought about that too. We can latch it so it doesn't swing all the way out.
@@KombiLife ah cool, and you still get full access to the engine?
"Re are door assembly" how'd it (rear) become a two syllable word?
Some of your mods look rather heavy, have you managed to keep within the vehicle’s GVWR \ GVM?
Yes. Thankfully.
Any updates on your parking heater?
yep - not really mentioned in any video for some reason - should have been in this one but got overlooked. It's in, it's great!
My ONE and ONLY question is ...
hooow do you always get internet connection in far remote places...?🤔
it get's easier as time goes on, but it is not always easy
@@KombiLife smart answer 😏👍
I wonder if any of the old crew still watches these videos. You guys still keep in touch?
with some yes. some even joined the Kombi Crew :)
If we have chance to get anyone back on the channel we definitely will
obligatory comment for support
High Five Daniel
You had like 3 different licence plates since I follow yall.
😬
Do y’all have a winch?
discussion happening in next vid
What type dog is Alaska
English Working Cocker Spaniel / Latina Street mix.
If you like Alaska the travel dog be sure to check this special episode about her: ruclips.net/video/PKZI-H7jUN0/видео.html&ab_channel=KombiLife
Those tiny pad locks aren't gonna keep any burglars at bay.
Can’t wait till you get to Australia. You played a part in my van purchase! I’m West Australian based and a single mum to two girls. I’m currently converting our van (MajesticMary_thevan on insta) and we’ve just spent our first week away adventuring thru the southwest. Best decision I’ve ever made 😃
3 different registrations 🤔
Attention to detail award...
This van has to be getting heavy now!
