As a huge BJM fan, Joel's album is everything I wanted it to be. Solid. Consistent. Groovy. He carries it well. Favorite song on AppleBonkers is "Mirage."
Joel is one of the most humble, knowledgeable, funny and clever guys during interviews. Very relaxed and engaged and truly seems like he is enjoying interactions with fans and etc.. I am a HUGE Antone Newcombe fan and he is truly brilliant. However past incidents and live recordings and of course dig! lead me to believe he would be a difficult personality to get along with spending so much time together. I have no idea what I am going on about. Joel is a great guy and BJM is a great band.
Joel is a genuine soul. I’ve never read one bad thing about him, everyone who’s met him has said nothing but he’s lovely. I identify with him on the level of things changing around you when you just want them to remain (his friends/band mates moving and the tech industry taking over his hometown). You can tell it’s really bothered him seeing as he based his album name off of it. He’s one of my top favorite musicians.. just based on personality alone.
When I watched "Dig!," it seemed like Joel was the one with a real vision for the group, the least ego, a true mission: "This could work (if everyone else's egos could tone down)." At the end, when BJM broke up and Joel's sitting on the hotel bed, slamming his hand into the nightstand ("10 years of my life gone, for nothing."). I got the impression everyone else just accepted what they already knew (like a dysfunctional couple breaking up. Just one more page.). Joel seemed to really believe, and had a longer view, and took it harder. Everyone else was ready to move on. He seemed like he felt he could hold them together if he tried harder. (Co-dependency, I guess. But, still, it makes you wonder what BJM would have been without him. It may have not made it as long as it did.).

how is it possible that your comment said everything I've been thinking exactly?
Joel is a rock hero.
Joel is a Beatle fan, that says it all. His solo album is beautiful.
Seems like a very nice respectable guy ....His music is AMAZING!! MORE JOEL...PLEASE.

Stopping at 7 minutes in, just don't want to hear the obligatory "Anton's a genius" baloney. Maybe he doesn't even go into that in this video.
seems like a cool guy, but without Anton, he is kinda lost. . . .
His album is really good.
