Hello Clint. Trick for ya. Heat up the housing just a little with a heat gun before pressing the barb in allows the barb to glide in easier and the olive will grab the outside a little better when you tighten the nut into the lever. Even here in the hot desert I find it helps on all brands of brakes. Especially if the AC is on and the shop is cool.
    Have a great day

I use Vice Grip locking pliers with those little yellow blocks and tap the barb in with a hammer. No need to put in a bench vise.

Nice, I didn't even know that existed! Though now I use SRAM Stealth-a-majig if I can. It's threaded barb, super easy to use, no hammer! I just bought a bag of those and haven't hammered a barb in a while.

The thing that keeps me from getting this one is that I have the Shimano tool, which is almost as good. Slightly more fiddly but has the advantage that the thing that pushes the barb in always stop when it's fully pushed in, ie you can't accidentally push it in too far.

I usually buy Park, but sometimes I find other alternatives so I have more money for Park Tools when they are clearly the best option. For brake lines I use the Jagwire Sport Hydraulic Brake Line Cutter and Needle Driver 2. They are two tools that fit in your palm and work great. Made it easier to splurge on the Park Tool WH-1 wheel holder which has a pain inducing price, but is so nice to have after the money is spent.

You no longer need that tool if you buy the SRAM G2 brakes which included a stealth-a-majig system which lets you install that barb by screwing it. I thought it was weird since I had never seen this before, but it made it so much easier. SRAM included the allen tool you need to install it as well.

Yep. Most new SRAM brakes use the Stealth a majig. This tool is only for press-in hose barbs.

I found that the barb just screws in, I bought a cheaper tool but never used it because it just screws in with small Alan key

The newer SRAM barbs (called Stealth a majig) screw in (counterclockwise) but the Shimano and others press in.

Very cool! What is the cost?

Great tool, but hard for me to justify $100 for the once every few years when I need to cut a brake hose

This is a tool made for shops, designed to be used multiple times a day. Home mechanics who rarely need - or want to - service their brakes got cheaper, more convenient options.
