This is the best discussion comparing the 2 leading rests. The reality is that most heavy hunting arrows are launched at 280 - 300 FPS, which means the arrow will clear the rest in about .005 seconds = 5 milliseconds. I challenge anyone to show how they can feel the difference that 1 - 2 milliseconds of contact time makes. As a hunter, I like the QAD capture system and smaller profile
Had my QAD start having problems with hanging up intermittently (only discovered this by finally shooting a fletchless arrow). Solved the problem by tying the release chord against the serving on my down cable (can't move past the serving) and haven't had an issue in 5 years with the same release.
My sons and I had two QADs fail and they were set up correctly. They are notorious for failing in cold, snow, ice, etc but our Hamskeas keep rolling along. No question which is the better built rest. Cable driven rests are finicky anyway.
I would say 99% of people with qad issues have them set up incorrectly. I shoot a lot I feel and never had one fail. Had them for years. I'm sure hamskea is good too but the qad is lighter.
Yeah, I've only ever had problems with QAD when I did something wrong or it was a ten year old rest (yeah the old old o.g. model of the ultrarest) that was ready to retire and stopped dropping reliably. Otherwise they've been great for me. I did just try my first hamskea this week... learning how to set it up today.
I’ve shot both, made switch to Hamskea because of durability. I shoot all the time and over time the QAD just wore out. I haven’t worn out the Hamskea and have shot at least triple the arrows through. Truthfully it’s up to the shooter and what they want.
Great video BTW, Drag is always a HUGE factor. Some may say that it’s dealing with milliseconds but drag is drag and drag slows down your arrow. This is why whisker biscuits are useless for accuracy and speed, too much drag. I have been shooting, building and tuning compound bows since 16 years of age and I am now 48 and still shooting compound bows. I currently own 5 bows and every single bow has a QAD drop away rest. I have smoked tons of deer and bear and those successes speak for themselves.
Whisker biscuits useless? I saw a test where the fall away guys actually shot slightly better with whiskers - while whisker guys had slightly better groups with fall away rests. The difference was too small to matter. Speed drops 3-5 fps with a whisker - many tests.
QAD for me. Been using the same one on my hunting setup for 4-5 years without one issue. Every winter after I’m done with serious bow hunting I open it up and clean it well. No oil or lube applied. Literally thousands of shots through it. 👍👍
I've used both the Hamskea and the QAD arrow rests and think each have their good and bad points, like most things! I also used the AAE Pro Drop NockOn rest and, like you, the only issue I had was the launcher wearing a groove in it. I asked the Ranch Fairy if he tested the Valkyrie broadheads and he hadn't. I have read the Ashby Reports and find what Troy is doing intriguing. However, with my age I am only shooting 60 pounds and have a 27 inch draw. This limits how heavy of an arrow I can build and still shoot decent yardages for out west hunting. I am shooting an X-Impact arrow with the Snyder Core Iron will system or the Valkyrie system. Both have been very effective for me. Thanks for all the great info!
My initial reaction to limb driven rests was "but isn't the string going to always be under tension? Isn't that a problem?" However, the more I thought about it, because the default position of the limb driven is fully up, the chances of inconsistencies at arrow launch are almost eliminated. If your cable driven line has any issues, then it may not get the rest to the fully up position causing inaccuracy issues before you even release the arrow. I think if I am going to have line issues, I'd rather the issue be that the rest doesn't fully fall out of the way, rather than it not reach fully upright.
If QAD didn’t have the patent on the the riser cutout on Mathews and other bows, they wouldn’t get near the sales, because if you want to integrate your rest to the riser you have to use QAD and they refuse to let hamskea use they’re patented design but will sell it to other rest manufacturers. Even QAD high ups know that that’s the only thing they have on hamskea.
You won't get hate.. he is 'blue'.. i've had both QAD integrate and now the hamskea epsilon. They're both awesome rests. you can actually mess with the tension on the hamskea to modify the arrow support time as well so.. yeah it's interesting but I now run the epsilon due the adjustability of that. Also the hamskea COR makes it as slim and light at the 'integrate' QAD
Thank you! Really useful! I’m new to archery Had issue with my QAD rest, breaking wanes(rest doesn’t drop properly)and local shop can’t solve it. I switched to Ham. Now I know why
Hamskea is the way to go imo. I have the hamskea epsilon rest made for mathews on my V3X 29. And i have the hamskea primer rest on my bowtech revolt. And they work awesome .
Look at Michael Braden PSE shooter video in a Hooter shooter with the hamskea showing the effect of just the spring tension alone and it's it's it's different man it's different for sure it definitely hits different I choose hamskea all day long it is built like a tank
Had a QAD rest and was getting poor arrow flight, I have a long draw and after having someone video me in slow motion I found that the arrow was dropping a bunch as it left. I ended up having the boys at Straight6 Archery put a Hamskea on and its shooting sweet. My experience says that gravity with heavy arrows coupled with long draw is not good combo with the QAD.
Something people don’t talk about is. When I’m hunting and sneaking on an animal. I want to think about my equipment as little as possible. So having to flip the qad up is just one more step. I can just knock and arrow and go with the hamskea. Is that something?
Either one should still work. The QAD might be the better option because it will tie into the cable. I'm not sure how well the limb driven will work on the older style bow. 👍
Have a September bull elk hunt coming in September I Have a biscuit on my bow it's great for hunting especially stalking I use to Have a center rest flipper style you always had to keep your finger on the arrow to keep it from falling off if there's a better option I'm interested!!
The whisker biscuits aren't terrible. They work and do a great job. Here is where you begin to have huge issues. In really dry dusty areas, dirt can build up in there and create more friction. It's manageable. Where it can really affect your hunt is when you are getting into colder weather. If it's cold and you add moisture, rain or snow, and the bristles can begin to freeze. This will highly effect how your arrows pass through the rest. Good luck to you on your elk hunt. Looking forward to hearing about your success.
I would run the biscuit you’ll have no issues, if a biscuit was wet and frozen everything on your bow would be frozen. The only issue I’ve came across with a biscuit is 600 grain arrows are too heavy for the biscuit, 450-550 for elk and you’ll be good to go!
One thing I found out this deer season is that I shot at a buck right under my stand and missed and went home and took some shots like I did with the buck and noticed how my arrow was dangling on my qaud rest no down pressure on the rest and missed my 3 d target at 20 feet up straight down.hat is one time I wished I had a whisker biscuit.quad is still my favorite rest the only problem with drop away rests is the problem I had shooting straight down . My arrow was actually laying on the plastic bar on top of the rest itself.
I shoot both QAD and Hamskea Epsilon. Both have pros and cons but both are exceptional quality. Comes down to personal preference like everything I suppose. Had an issue for a long time with arrow causing noise when drawing. Drive me nuts. Turns out knock point was pushing arrow up and forcing down on rest. Fixed! Set up incorrectly. Love the Hamskea also though.
hi guys o/ Bought myself a 60 lbs bow 3-4 yrs ago. used it for some months and finally have time and space to pick it up again. String never been wet/ frailed. used wax and shot indoors. is it still safe to use, or do you guys religiously change wire/string after a while? even if it's stored inside?
It is always a good idea to change it after it has been sitting for a while. It's better to pay for a new string than to have the string break and possibly break limbs or worse. We change our strings every year. We never let it go past 2 years.
I’ve been shooting a Trophy Taker Smackdown Pro for about 7 or 8 years. The Hamske looks like the same rest? I’m guessing they are similar in mechanics but the Hamske is built better. Am I correct?
Agreed. I’ve yet to have an issue with my TTSP, but I’d like to hear counters to that argument. I thought Cody was going to list the ones he didn’t like!
I agree with what he saying about the drop away arrow rest the qad one thing I do not agree with his Factory strings every pair I am ever seen have been full of wax they stretch tremendously they even tell you they build it to where the boat comes in hot so once it stretches your about at the right poundage something that you do not want LOL you don't want stretch and with a high-quality material there will be no stretch but I love this I love hearing other people's opinion and talkin about it because it helps everybody to learn myself included I'm not saying I'm above or I'm right I may be wrong as hell but in my eyes that's what I have seen
I’ve seen on other vids that the rubber thing on the epsilon sags and can catch an arrow with the slim quiver Mathews has. Anyone ran into that problem?
Just started back shooting bows after 27years off. First thing i did on my bow is switch the wisker biscuit for a quad hdx. I shoot 4 times a week for the past 3 months. 200 to 300 arrows a week. My quad broke.. had it changed on warranty.. not feeling assured that it will hold up... + the restetting after having it replaced..😑🤦♂️🤷♂️
Just remember shooting straight down your arrow will not be sitting on the rest it will be bobbling around on drop away rests. Just go put an arrow on your dropaway and pull your bow back and aim at something straight down you’ll see what mean.
I’ve been shooting my ultra rest since 2016 going on 9 years not one issue, qad has an aluminum launcher now….hunting from the ground or tree for quiet containment I’ll stick with qad.
I like Valkyrie one-hundred-percent I support Brent one thing I don't like is how that little bitty caller on the tip of the arrow it's supposed to hold that Broadhead in Arrow if you hit something extremely hard I have seen they will come off maybe I'm doing something wrong but it was on a 246 outside diameter so 166 inter anyway I took sandpaper smooth duct outside just so it would fit on there and then use super glue after making sure the insert was perfectly straight and I had one come off maybe it was my fault I don't know also I had one that was kind of a little wonky that I had to eat up take it apart clean it out on the stem side and put it back together but you can tell 100% that these things will shattered bone they will drive right through anything that is in front of them I have never seen something made such high quality it's like the Indians back in the day they had their certain arrowheads that they put on necklaces because they was so pretty this is the valkyrie you really don't even want to shoot it because how pretty it is just to tooling everything
He's right about QAD being a superb company. I just bought a used PSE bow that had been dry fired (but for a great price). It had a QAD MX rest on it but the launcher came broken. I reached out to QAD asking to purchase the part. They said they would cover it and even gave me the choice to have the part shipped to me or I could send in the rest and they would service it all under warranty! I don't know if Hamskea's are more durable but I do trust QAD to stand behind their products.
I shoot QAD right now and I’m probably switching to a Hamskea. I had a turkey at 35 yards and shot and missed 10 yards to the right. I believe it was user error and take full credit for the bad arrow. I believe in the heat of the moment I failed to pop the rest up properly and my arrow wasn’t seated on the rest. 100% my fault, but if I can eliminate human error in the heat of the moment and give myself one less thing to think about, I’m going to take it. QAD and Hamskea both make a great rest, either way you can’t really go wrong at the end of the day.
Wat about limb driven string b a beach on Mathews low prow quivers ??? The quivers r awesome enough ppl pay over 200$ who want damn string snag up all time
When your Hanskea spring gets stretched, while hiking up the mtn. You'll second guess the limb driven rests. It can't fail when you're counting on it...
One thing I would be absolutely sure to have with me on a trip would be a set of allens. Loosen the clamp, pull it tight, problem solved. Also I would just put a new spring on it, if it was that much of a concern, not being prepared doesn't mean something isn't a good product.
We have a total of 5 hunting bows in my family, we shoot at least 250 shots a week, we've been shooting for about 10 years. You do the math. All our bows have QAD rests on them with 0 issues , with thousands of shots. A friend of mine, gave me a Hamskea trinity rest as a birthday present, I gave it a try, I put it on one of my bows [mathews halon 6] the first thing I didn't like is that it is heavy, second too bulky third, the string all the way to the limb. Try that out West, crawling with your bow on a stalk. I ended taking it off my bow and putting the QAD back on. If it ain't broken ,don't fix it. If it works for you, good , just didn't for me.
QAD is trash and so are the rest of the cable driven rests. Limb driven is the superior tech for durability, performance, and accuracy. Always has been. Vapor Trail and Hamskea are the two best. The Trophy Ridge Sync is a more functional rest than a QAD simply because you can cock and load it much quicker than the QAD. On a Vapor Trail or Hamskea, all you have to do is your arrow and lay it down in the housing. When you draw it goes right into place. Vapor Trail is a little better than Hamskea on that front. Lastly, I have had way more trouble fine tuning with cable rests. They don't support the arrow long enough. If you shoot bigger fixed heads, limb driven seems to be better. That extra support the arrow gets makes a difference.
Bottom line you say what is the best arrow rest thank about it something that is going to support that Arrow as it leads the vote why you think people use blade rest forever and target archery because they wanted the most support for that Arrow
Myself and Many others have had Catastrophic FAILER with Hamskea the Whale tail launcher NEEDS to be 90 Deg as it Will and has Several times hold the arrow on Top of the Launcher as well as many many others!! Shot arrows god not where. If it only happed once " in my backyard" I could give them a pass, But DOZEN & DOZENS of times!!! HAMSKEA gets a FAIL!!!! HAMSKEA Sell us a 90 deg Launcher ????
As an ultra runner and avid hunter, I find the hunting supplement industry comical. Guys, if you think you need supplements to go hike 3-5 miles I don't know what to tell you. This is a money grab and if you don't see that I don't know what to tell you.
Nobody is grifting here-I find it comical that you think we believe we need supplements to go hike 3-5 miles. You clearly have no idea who we are. I’ve hiked 7-10 miles per day for three consecutive days (with a very heavy pack) with no food at all-completely fasted. The human body is capable of incredible feats of endurance. I appreciate and enjoy some supplements and I recommend a few but my recommendations are far from “comical” or a “money grab.” I have never and would never promote the idea that you “need” any supplement at all. I promote a healthy lifestyle and nutritious foods. Supplements are just icing on the cake to support an already healthy diet.

my qad sucks in the cold
I did use the QAD but the more I hunted in harsh climate especially cold weather the QAD made noise and didnt function properly
I like this format of information thank you, guys!
Man I Love this channel. Great substance, educational and hunting entertainment.
I would say 99% of people with qad issues have them set up incorrectly. I shoot a lot I feel and never had one fail. Had them for years. I'm sure hamskea is good too but the qad is lighter.
I'd take dependability over weight any day.
Qad has been dependable and has had 1000s of arrows through it. In my experience and on my bows.
Their both good just as this man said but the hamskea is built tougher. Machined aluminum with sealed bearings. No plastic.
I’ve shot both, made switch to Hamskea because of durability. I shoot all the time and over time the QAD just wore out. I haven’t worn out the Hamskea and have shot at least triple the arrows through.
Truthfully it’s up to the shooter and what they want.
Yep I wore out my old qad after 10 years of use it still works but it's best up bought a hamskea trinity to replace it with

my biggest problem with the hamskea is the cord will get caught in my quiver at full draw

I will buy hamskea rest. The trinity pro or the epsilon as long as I hunt with a bow.
Very innovative and tactical 👍😉 ... I hope they are made in the U.S.A. 🇺🇸
The intergraded rest has metal arrow holder
Excellent. Seems so complicated. I’ve got lots to learn

It wasn't in the video but with a Vapor Trail there is 100% arrow capture. You shouldn't have to worry about cocking your rest properly on a hunt.
Thanx
Wat about limb driven string b a beach on Mathews low prow quivers ??? The quivers r awesome enough ppl pay over 200$ who want damn string snag up all time
When your Hanskea spring gets stretched, while hiking up the mtn. You'll second guess the limb driven rests. It can't fail when you're counting on it...
The new epsilon rest doesn't have a spring anymore
Wayne thank you for supporting the show. The new Epsilon has a rebound dampening system. It replaces the spring.
and if you already have a Hamskea rest with the spring, you can but the rebound dampener conversion kit
I'll have to take a look at the new Eplison rest.
One thing I would be absolutely sure to have with me on a trip would be a set of allens. Loosen the clamp, pull it tight, problem solved. Also I would just put a new spring on it, if it was that much of a concern, not being prepared doesn't mean something isn't a good product.
The answer is Vapor Trail Limb Driver.
For the algorithm
My QAD would intermittently drop down when locked in the up position.
Gritty
How curious to how effective a bow would really be in a zombie apocalypse... Lol seriously tho good info
loading a hamskea puts your broadhead too close to your cables with a qad its not . thats why they put the cutout in a wisker bisket
Listen to Dudley’s ranch fairy pod
GET AN UP TO DATE QAD, THEY ARE METAL! I THINK SOME PEOPLE CREATE PROBLEMS WHERE THERE ARE NONE! IF IT AIN'T BROKEN, DON'T FIX IT!
Like my Ham wouldn’t choose anything else
Take the autofocus off and set it on manual! 😂
“Is the normal person going to notice?” Is not a beneficial question in an interview like this
Everybody allways only speaking qad and hamskea but there is mor great products, like vapor trail gen 7x.
Anyone shoot the Virtus rest, it perfect for me
Hamskea is better hands down
We have a total of 5 hunting bows in my family, we shoot at least 250 shots a week, we've been shooting for about 10 years.
HAMSKEa: option for fork rest, lock upwards, attach inline with all risers.
QAD : all metal parts
Not a fan of vapor trail?
I have 7x and its good and works fine but next time i would probably buy hamskea, they are simple and robust.
It would be awesome if u guys hooked up with the ranch fairy and filmed a hunt
@@GrittyGearAndPodcast You're right; I don't know who you are. RUclips algorithm put your video on a playlist and I sniffed the BS in the first 3 minutes. Who knows, I could be wrong...maybe Ignite includes proprietary ingredients passed down hundreds of years. I've always suspected the Native Americans were on the juice.
There's just waaay to much going on mechanically with BOTH of those rests for me. I'll just stick with my good ol Whisker biscuit
Your biscuits hair is wearing pretty fast, for me thats wayyyy too must going on ;)
Hamskea, all day, every day.
I think the limb driven are so ugly.
Really get annoying when half your podcasts are advertisements smh
Good info but camerawork was all over the place
Skip the first 8 minutes waste of your time
🥤🥱🍿 Hamskea 🏆
