HAPPY NEW YEAR MY PEOPLE! I hope you’re having an Amazing Day and this video makes you smile, laugh or even learn something from my perspective. Love y’all 💯
Check out HF in sing-off, including judges comment, Shawn Stockman is one of the judges:) thanks for the videos, always puts a smile on my face:) love from Norway 🇳🇴☺️
This white lady would LOVE to see a BIPOC group take on Queen- or heck- even country! There are black country singers that barely get recognition or radio play and I, for one, wanna hear more! 😍 Once you're exposed to music you love- as a musician it influences and colors anything you create... and it comes from a place of deep affection and appreciation for the genre.
As mentioned below , Shawn Stockman was a judge on their season of the ‘Sing Off’ and he was a huge fan of Home Free, particularly Austin. The Home Free guys attended a Boyz to Men concert and covered this song as a tribute to their friend and as fans of their vocal heroes …
Fellas! This isn’t disrespectful. On the contrary, for a group like HF to take on an iconic song like this and do it to this level relates to the respect they have for B2M. What you both need to understand and to quote another of your reactor colleagues is that “MUSIC HAS NO COLOR!” HF did it THEIR WAY and they KILLED it! I think Rob (lead singer here) has a secret Pop/R & B affection. Keep up the great work. Love to you guys!
Absolutely! Home Free didn’t do this for competition or to prove some point. This was not a “Battle of the Bands”. They did it because of respect and love for a great band and a great song. You can tell by the passion they performed it with.
@@txwarrior66 Hell yeah. Even Dolly approved of Whitney Houston doing that! She said it was just about the proudest moments of her life in an interview with SiriusXM! Singers and musicians generally don't dislike when people cover their music, they just sometimes want a piece of the pie and always want to be respected.
Sean from B2M was a judge on the acapella singing show that both Pentatonix AND Home Free won seasons 1&2.Sean has requested them to sing this one time, they have mad respect for B2M,so they did. Sean APPROVES and loves their cover.🙂
I just can’t get over how PROUD you looked showing your son this song 🥰. Hope Jojo is feeling better and that y’all had a great Christmas and New Year!
I'm a white guy who grew up near a hick town called Redding CA. I knew almost every single b2m song growing up, because they were just that damn good! They broke the boundaries when it came to culture, talent, and ability. Home free were asked by the original b2m members to do this song, which in my opinion, is the greatest compliment you could ever receive.
Home Free has, in my opinion, the richest harmonies in the world. There are many other great a cappella groups, but the vocal richness, the individual talents of these guys, their arrangements, and especially their world champion beatboxer, Adam Rupp, make Home Free the kings of a cappella.
By that logic, didn’t Whitney kinda do the same thing with Dolly’s “I Will Always Love You?” 😉🥰 I’ve always felt that music is the one thing that is colorblind and can transcend social, economic, and generational differences.
They created a gift to the R+B community, a tribute to the stand alone great song by Boyz to Men. Home free just paid tribute to this classic. Apopreciate all your videos LFR Family!!!
Home Free did it so well for two reasons, 1) they truly wanted to pay homage to Boy's 2 Men, 2) they are just that talented! Whan they were on that competition show and Shawn was one of the judges, i bet they really wanted his praise more than the other judges. When Boy's 2 Men sang, it made you want to become a singer ...they were just that good.
Their is NO lead singer in Home Free. It depends on the song and what the range is. High....it will be either Rob or Austin....Lower range it will be Chance or Tim. That's what makes them a great group. The reason they DON'T do a cover exactly like the original is to let the original stand on it's own merits. When they sing a cover they pay homage and put their "spin" on it.
These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre including R&B. Rob sang this with so much soul. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. Tim is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer Adam can simulate any sound. Keep up your journey through Home Free. You will not find a bad song.
Yes I'm gen x and Boyz to Men ruled the radios for a really long time..every song they put out instantly climbed the charts..every high school dance I attended played Boyz to Men almost on loop! Great music that will never die..great reaction guys. Blessings to you and yours ✌Music brings ppl together like nothing else can..its a beautiful thing! 🙏
Chance is doing the walking bass line in this song. He is an extraordinary singer… you should checkout his leads on “I Can’t Outrun You “, Cover Me Up”, “Winter Song “. They don’t have a lead singer…they go with who has the best voice for the song.
Home Free did justice to the song. When they won the NBC show the Sing Off, Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men was a judge and he loved them. I think they wanted to do right by him. Rob did a great job. I think it’s a great cover.
Jojo be in shock when Rob broke loose! Great reaction with Van grinning just knowing what was about to happen! That's why we Home Fries love to watch rookie reactors react to our guys!
Shawn Stockman of B2M gave them a standing ovation on the Sing-Off. He is one of several original performers of songs Home Free has done that have applauded their work, gave them a hand up, and passed the torch on to them. They treat all their songs, in all genres, with all respect and love. Maybe show your son the Country Fried Pop Medley and the Butts Remix next.
Actually, the beatboxer (Adam Rupp) isn't doing any of the bass-line. That is always done either by Tim Foust (long dark hair on the far left) or Adam Chance (right rear). Tim is a "basso profundo" with a 5+ octave range.
I was going to point out the very same thing, but I read the comments first to see if anyone had already commented about him saying that Adam(Rupp)was doing the bass, lol. I saw your comment and was like "Cool. No need for me to say it, lol!!😁
These guys were on an a capella contest show called the Sing Off in 2014. Shaun from Boys to Men was one of the judges that loved them. I believe he, after the show was over, suggested they cover this song
Boys to Men was known internationally and majorly so. people knew of them all over the world. They were amazing. And so loved. The pull to do a tribute to a great group, with well-written and sung materials is obvious.
They were on Sing Off when Shawn Stockman was a judge. He fell in Love with them and is a friend and mentor of Home Free. How cool to share that with your son.
As far as I'm concerned all of the Home Free guys "emote" through their music/videos better than just about anyone else out there--and in this one Rob showcases his gospel/R&B genius in a way that just can't be ignored ❣️❣️❣️
Loved watching your son sitting there with his mouth hanging open. LOL! It isn't disrespectful to cover a song and do a great job. People argue who did it better, personally I think both versions were great, each in its own slightly different style. Next in your trip down the Home Free rabbit hole, show your son "Butts Remix", official video. I look forward to watching your son falling out of his chair laughing while watching it. Speaking of covers, Simon and Garfunkel recorded "The Sound of Silence" in 1966. The group Disturbed did a cover, "The Sound of Silence" {official music video} which has 772 million views and still counting. Paul Simon, original singer, called David, singer for Disturbed, and told him that his song now belonged to Disturbed. That is the greatest compliment a cover can get.
They were on a show called Sing Off and one of the Boys to Men guys were a judge.. he helped coach them on this song.. Sing Off was a good show but didn’t last cause they couldn’t compete w the other vocal shows like the Voice and American idol and America’s got talent etc
Think of it this way, Jojo. Boyz II Men opened up a whole new range of expression for Home Free. It's actually a tribute to Black culture. Music has no borders. We're all made richer learning from each other. You can feel proud that songs and singing styles from Black artists have so profoundly influenced the global musical scene. That's how I see it. I'm writing this comment a year after the video was posted. Well done, Van!
Someone at some point said they had to change the part Tim did due to the situation with the original Boys To Men gentleman leaving the band (I'm not going to pretend to know their names.) So, they couldn't do the talking part of the original song.
Home Free means no disrespect in any way - they loved the classic so much they tried to do it themselves. What's important is not how good or bad they did it - but the honor meant to B2M for having originally made such a wonderful hit song that itself has already gone into the history books!
I’m old, 70 yrs., and from what I’ve seen during my memorable music experience from, say, the late 50’s, is many crossovers. Chubby Checkers, “the King,” Elvis Presley just to name two. Regardless, it’s such a wonderful thing to see people enjoying music and sharing those experiences, no matter the color of their skin. The general public needs to take heed of musicians and the integration of all genres, cultures, etc…. Love you two, father-son reacting. Keep at it. I love it!
Sean from B2M was one of the judges on Sing Off, which HF won the 4th season. B2M gave their blessings. HF has done many, many covers of iconic songs, in every genre. When a Man Loves a Women American Pie etc, etc, etc
Great reaction! Thank you. And you are right, Home Free always tries to do a cover with total respect to the original artists. They usually only do covers of songs that one or more of them are huge fans of the artist(s) and/or song. Thanks for sharing and happy to follow you on your journey of discovering more from Home Free. Take care.
Hahaha I get it and I loved this guys...Sir I love ya recruiting your son to Home Free !!! Wait til he hears Everybody Walkin this land" he's gonna freak out ! Home Free has a message at the end of that song
Respectfully, I have to disagree. These guys have such a great collaboration together using each of their individual talents to hold each song together! If you see & hear them in concert, it’s amazing! Chance is an awesome bass/baritone & does a fantastic job as a lead/solo or taking over as bass when Tim leads, but Tim has a much better range (FIVE octaves!!!), can beatbox, & can hit lower than Chance. Also, on stage, Tim has more of a humorous personality & relates to the audience more. He can hit the highs, but makes the speakers blow & your butt vibrate with his lows, & makes the women drool!!! Austin is an incredible, AMAZING high-tenor, is too hilariously funny & also incredibly relatable with the fans, has his own style, uses his background in musical theatre like no other, & is as much eye candy as Tim is, also making us all drool! Rob is an incredible teddy bear, but has a tenor/baritone voice that can lead, back-up, or rap, & is SMOOTHE as butter! He’s also quite funny, & is a truly nice guy, & can do quite well as a lead, also! As the beatboxer & only remaining founding member of the group, Adam Rupp truly helps hold every song & the group together by keeping the beat! Without that, if a song gets off-beat, it’s over. That’s one of the first things anyone learns doing any kind of music is you have to stay with the beat! He does all the instrumental sounds strictly with his mouth, & pple. think there are hidden instruments somewhere. He is known as the world’s best beatboxer, & although he doesn’t do it often, he also has a great voice, & the audience loves him. All of these guys have tremendous talents, & they all pitch in different qualities to make the songs the hits that they are, whether covers or originals. One of the best things about the group is that they each can do lead or solo, and who does it depends on who does it best/who fits the part better. I personally love that they often change roles within a song, & often change things up or throw something different in to make it their own. Chance & Rupp don’t talk a lot to the audience, followed by Rob, who is usually also pretty quiet, but he does his solos/leads very well & loves to ham it up with his partners & the crowd! Tim & Austin also really ham it up, talking & joking with the fans (& each other!) and that truly draws the fans in even more. I love Chance, & he’s a great singer, but esp. after seeing/hearing HF before he joined, I don’t believe that he “holds every song together” or “ties everything together.” Honestly, they ALL do that! Without one, it’s just not the same. They use each other’s individual talents very well to enhance what they make & what the audience hears, form a collusive product, & provide what each song needs to be superb. #HomeFree is truly the best!!’ #HomeFryForLife
I have never watched their rendition because to me Boyz to Men are untouchable. But when I saw your thumbnail, I couldn't resist. Loved your reaction!💗
When they competed in the Sing Off competition, Shawn from Boyz11Men was one of the judges and absolutely loved these guys. He and the rest of Boyz gave Home Free their blessings to do this song.
Really great reaction. You might not know but Shawn Stockman from Boyz 2 men was one of the judges on "Sing-off season 4 when Home Free won. He was quite the fan of these guys and it was mutual. You might enjoy watching their performances in this with the judges reaction.
This group has been around since 2000. They got to be known on the TV show The Sing Off in 2013 where they won. One of the three judges on the show was none other than Shawn Stockman from Boys II Men. He was a real fan of the group. He really praised Austin Brown sky high tenor (right front). The other guys are front left Tim Foust bass. Rob Lundquist lead tenor (beard and glasses). Back left Adam Rupp beatboxer and back right Adam Chance (baritone) but he covers bass when needed. Nice reaction
When HF was on the Sing Off show one of the members of Boys To Men was a judge. I think they decided to cover this song as sort of a shout out to him for his support of them during the show. I'm so sick of race being brought into everything. Good music is good music regardless of who does it. Lord knows if we can't all agree to that there really isn't much hope for any of us.
Shaun Stockman was a judge on the “Sing off” when HF competed and won. His was a fan of AUSTIN and told him his voice was “as smooth as butter” & that he was a star.
This might also have been sort of a tribute to Shawn Stockman, one of the judges in the season that Home Free won. He seemed mighty impressed with them throughout their run.
I am so tickled right now. You can see the absolute joy you get in watching Home Free, and that right there is why they have the followers- Home Fries - that they do! I am happy your son got to see it as well. I understood what he was talking about.. I was worried when I first saw they were going to do this song because it is so iconic, but there was no need to worry! I love when groups or individuals take a great song and do it justice. I love how white groups will do black music, or black groups will do white music, or a country star will do a song from another genre (check out Chris Stapleton's cover of It's A Man's World as an example). Music knows no color. It is the best vehicle to bring all of us together! Thank you for a wonderful and joyful reaction!
I don’t remember what year this was. But you’re exactly right. I believe it was the American music awards were Garth Brooks was awarded best artist of the year. He himself didn’t feel that he deserve that award. On national television he gave that award to the people he thought deserved it. And the people he thought deserved it was Boyz to Men.
This group is awesome in harmony, in all musical instruments made by themselves etc.... One of the greatest songs sang... You know sang. So I believe doing their own twist was amazing and performed perfectly. Keep listening to outstanding music
Love your reactions and even though Jojo can't see the light and realize Birds greatness I check his channel out too. Please keep doing home free reactions I don't think I've ever heard a song of theirs I didn't like. Much love keep it up Van
Boyz II Men had a ton of songs with country versions of their songs at the same time they came out because the writers licensed them to lots of different people. So Boyz II Men were often fighting a different version of their song on the charts.
I think Rob is the most versatile voice he’s even trained in opera. He’s kinda like Kelly Clarkson. Do it all Thanks for the song you should try WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN. Blow your mind.
Their version is different *because* they respect the original. They didn't want to be seen as 'competing' with BTM - Home Free's version is a *tribute* to Boys To Men, and I have to applaud their efforts. Great commentary, guys :)
I think there is a clip somewhere of HF talking about how they picked that song, why they did it the way they did it, & Stockman’s thoughts/remarks about it. He loves HF, and said that Austin had some “serious chops!” He was a big fan of our guys.
I love watching you and your son. I subscribe to JoJo's channel also and he's a great reactor in his own right. This just gives me even more happy feels. Thank you and peace and blessings for all your family.
I believe Home Free did this song to show that they are versatile and not just stuck in the Country genre. I don’t feel that they disrespected Boyz 2 Men. Had they striped the song down and remade it totally unrecognizable to the original in a way that was tacky and terrible, than that would be unrecognizable. But I would love to see someone from the hiphop genre take on Bohemian Rhapsody. It’d be interesting for sure, if not entertaining… especially those really high opera parts in the middle. 😬
Have you seen the short bit they did of Bohemian Rhapsody? Actually, I think it was a year ago today! It started as that, then went to another song as an April Fool’s thing!
@5:36 "What made them do this?". America is a great place. They can, so they did. That's why I am here enjoying your reaction. Enjoying a father and son moment.
This is a fantastic reaction for a bunch of reasons. I love the LFR reactions. When Rob comes in and does his runs your sons face freezes and has a big grin on his face. I absolutely love it. You guys are amazing. Keep it up
As has always been said "real recognize real". Boys II Mens harmonies are so smooth. These yt boys know that, and I think are truly appreciating the art that was an incredible group of men in the 90s. They're just students. Pentatonix did 'If I Ever Fall In Love" and was amazing. So ya know it's different but also incredible lol.
The walking bass line you hear is Chance. He’s the guy in the back on the right. His name is Adam Chance but everyone calls him Chance so he won’t be confused with Adam Rupp the beatboxer. 😊
Chance (back right) covers the bass when Tim (front left) is singing. Tim is a freak bass with over a 5 octave range. If you want to see some low stuff, see "Folsom Prison Blues", "Ring of Fire (last note)", "Hilbilly Bone". If you want to see his high stuff, see "Mayday" (which also shows Chance's bass). Chance does great leading "Some Girls Do", and "Castle on the Hill" to name just a couple.
Home Free is great! I saw Boys to Men and TLC when they were opening acts for MC Hammer. Boys To Men were awesome and sang acapella amazingly! It was a great concert to say the least.
Just watching you and your son interact, and watching the pleasure you take in his insights, and when you see he's smelling what you're cooking (9:43)--it's the BEST, and it gives me a twinge of pain because it makes me miss my son. He's too old (22) and too far away for me to get close to him in the old way when I could just grab him and go fishing and listen to the radio on the way--you have no idea how much I miss that. So hang on to these moments my man, hang on while you have them. G0d bless you and the LTR family for your wide minds and open hearts.
To be able to cross genres is great all by itself. But when you can cross generations and cultures; AND, do it well and with respect, that is really what makes great music. How many can that be said about?
I've been watching you VAN for years and now your Son JoJo!!! What a great young man you've got on you hands! So excited for you both on the success of your channels. Oh, Home Free is some badass boys that can SANG anything!

Regardless, it’s such a wonderful thing to see people enjoying music and sharing those experiences, no matter the color of their skin. The general public needs to take heed of musicians and the integration of all genres, cultures, etc…. Love you two, father-son reacting. Keep at it. I love it!
Do your Thang 👍 Vann! You can tell you guys have a great relationship man, cool to see!
Sean from B2M was one of the judges on Sing Off, which HF won the 4th season. B2M gave their blessings. HF has done many, many covers of iconic songs, in every genre.
When a Man Loves a Women
American Pie
etc, etc, etc
If you truly want to see the full extent of Tim Foust's range, their version of the song "Mayday" will give you an even better picture.
Adam Chance holds every song together. he ties everything together
I hear ya! I had the same opinion when Whitney sang " I will always love you" I learned to love them both.
Boys2men were phenomenal. My mother wasn't very happy with music back when...but she liked her b2m.
not only his mind blown but also a new song on his playlist :)
Love your reaction. Home Free is the best. They can take any song and make it theirs.
I have never watched their rendition because to me Boyz to Men are untouchable. But when I saw your thumbnail, I couldn't resist. Loved your reaction!💗
PS Boyz to Men still are the best version!!!!!
When they competed in the Sing Off competition, Shawn from Boyz11Men was one of the judges and absolutely loved these guys. He and the rest of Boyz gave Home Free their blessings to do this song.
They sing everything: bluegrass, country, folk, rock, pop, R&B and Operas' arias. Amazing!
Happy New Year! Thanks for what you do! Love the two of you together!
Love this song, thank you for this reaction 🙂😊
I'm a 44 year old white man from Utah and everyone I grew up with loved Boyz II Men back in the day.
Boys 2 men, omg brings you back to the 90s…..love their music. Thank you, God Bless 🙏❤️
Such a good dad!! You are showing him new venues and he is receptive.
🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Doug
Boyz II Men had a ton of songs with country versions of their songs at the same time they came out because the writers licensed them to lots of different people. So Boyz II Men were often fighting a different version of their song on the charts.
I think Rob is the most versatile voice he’s even trained in opera. He’s kinda like Kelly Clarkson. Do it all Thanks for the song you should try WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN. Blow your mind.
JoJo redeems himself after the Larry Bird fiasco.
Their version is different *because* they respect the original. They didn't want to be seen as 'competing' with BTM - Home Free's version is a *tribute* to Boys To Men, and I have to applaud their efforts. Great commentary, guys :)
Shawn mentored them on the show Sing off (that they won). I believed they played there version to him B4 the released it out of respect.
In that case, have you heard the cover by 4th Impact? It's way more up tempo and faster than the original, it's a fun Pop version
Have you seen the short bit they did of Bohemian Rhapsody? Actually, I think it was a year ago today! It started as that, then went to another song as an April Fool’s thing!
@@JaimeDornanLady Yep… I got Rick Rolled from that. 😬
Shaun and Tim Foust are good friends... Shaun helped with the arraignment!
You need to see them do How Great Thou Art its unreal
Lol-Have they done ANY that aren’t?! #HomeFryForLife
You two couldn’t possibly be any cuter! Great reaction! Thanks so much! 🥰
Don’t be mad, take it as mad respect by honoring Boyz2Men’s and their great talent!
Back in the 70's-90's people just enjoyed the music🎶we didn't look at who was singing it💕
I wore out this BOYZ 2 MEN tape back in the day. Good reaction sir and son..
I loved watching this with you two. A family moment, very cool. and Home Free, they deliver. On time, All the time, Every time!
TRUTH, Boyz to Men came to tiny town Ohio to sing for a young girl dying of cancer! They were HUGE!
