The biggest challenge with curb parking is that you're dealing with the vehicle's second biggest blind area. First work with pylons to get a feel for where your vehicle is in space and place. Second, work to pull off the side of the road. You'll be able to feel when the vehicle moves from the pavement to the gravel. And last, when first attempting kerb parking, park behind another vehicle.

@@smartdrivetest I am sorry for the delay in this comment, My first stop was to get coffee and Tim Hortons lol. I have been getting better at driving:) However, I have been noticing when I make my turns, sometime I rub the back tier with the curb:(, how can I fix this?
God I needed this for my drivetest. Good to know I was doing some of the techniques right though! What helped me was lining up the mounting piece for the driver side wiper with the curb, and I would be about 4" away. And if you are too far away, you can always back up and use your right mirror to judge the distance. Hopefully this helped someone!

There is actually a trick towards knowing where your car is in relation to the curb. Just divide in half your hood line from the left fender to the right one and get it as close as you can do that line by looking down the hood line to where you can see the curb starting.
The same applies when you are doing adjacent parking. Wait for your left mirror to pass half way past the parking spot you want to go into and then turn sharply into the parking space. Works every time regardless of how big your vehicle is.

@@naomiolutayo the front of the car is the hood and the fender is located on the sides of the car in the very front. It’s near the indicator lights, but more so on the sides. Look it up to have a better understanding.
When parking by a curb on the right, you’re going to turn your wheel right until the curb line hits between the middle of the hood and the right fender before turning your wheel left and straightening out the car. Does that make sense?

Well done tip Rick and this applies to people doing this in both Drive on Left side of the Road like the United Kingdom where this is done as park on the right and Drive on right side of the road United States and Canada.

All I really need to practice is all my parking curbside parking since I park to far sometimes & parallel parking since I’ve never actually tried it & just master every type of parking before I feel confident enough for my test
Taking the road test in a couple days and watching these videos is really helpful 😁
Biggest tip I wish I told myself the first time when doing your road test stay calm do what you know you need to do not what you think they want you to do. You got this !!

This is such a great channel for learning how to drive but some of the road signs that I've seen are unfamiliar to me because I live in new york city. I would LOVE IT if you can show people how to drive in new york city and I live in the bronx. Because that's more of a real challenge and I just got my driver's license 2 weeks ago and it took me my fourth try in order to pass the road test. The streets are tight. There are double parked cars on either side on a one way and sometimes you literally need to go to the opposite lane on a two way just to go around a double parked card and there could be a driver on the opposite lane so you have to judge whether you have enough space and enough time to go around and not hit the other car, and some drivers don't use their signals or are in a rush and won't let you drive around or merge into a lane which is why drivers need to be aggressive but not too aggressive to the point that you get into an accident. Some streets have no lines but there are like invisible lanes that drivers make into 3 lanes or 2 depending how much traffic there is. It's just ridiculous. I'm picking up my car today from the dealership. Hopefully all my driving lessons and practice really helps me out and using Waze as my way to navigate.

Rick can you please make a video on proper foot placement when it comes to the gas and break petal. And how your foot should never leave the floor of the car but should be planted in a comfortable position to accelerate and too stop and only the tip of your toes should touch each petal going too fast will cause you to get into an accident not stopping properly will cause the car to jerk driving instructors are very keen on proper speed control and foot placement to better control your speed and stopping thanks Rick
Embarrassing it sounds, I scrapped my Subaru WRX Rims against a curb because I couldn’t tell if I was close enough.
Happened to me 2 times, and hopefully it’ll be my last.
Repairs for Rims is going to cost me a lot $$$ 😩😫

I always end up with the rear wheels too far from the curb, even if the front wheels are okay. How to correct this.
So when no need to parallel park car next to curb on atreet necessary?

On the flat you can leave the steer tires straight. Hold the foot brake, put the automatic transmission in park, apply the parking brake, and release the foot brake. All the best, Cheers Rick

Sadly an instant fail. I’m pretty sure. In California at least.

Ive had my full license since June and since then we got a new car and now i cant curb park worth shit im always wayy too far even though I was perfect in previous cars. I cant get a hang of it in this damn car so even though I wont have a road test cause already passed I have my husband taken me out to practice curb parking😊🙃
