Democratic Socialism results in a fully socialist state and economy but gets there through elections not revolution. Social democracy accepts capitalism but looks to redistribute wealth, set up a generous welfare state and nationalise some industries
Your ML state is really more of a caricature. In reality all developing and modernizing economies have authoritarian leaders as was the case with the SU and China. Also, they were necessary because of the revolutions, world wars, and civil wars within their countries. In addition, they had to keep aggressive and hostile countries at bay with a strong military. They also had to subdue the capitalists and subversives from within. All of those factors really paint a different picture of the SU and Chinese states and parties.
Dissapointed that the A Level spec doesn't consider the influence of libertarian and anarchist socialists. Thinkers like Malatesta, kropotkin and Bookchin would all be considered socialist but believe in a highly limited, highly democratic state, emphasising the needs of worker self management and bottom-up power in the creation of socialism. Not an issue with your presentation, it's just that many revolutionary socialists completely disagree with the idea of a strong state. Nice video though, good revision tool.
