Drew 23 and me now has specific regions of Europe down to the county for your DNA!
Are they still fudging their figures? Because that casts some doubt on their claims of 'accurate down to the county'.
harbl99 well they’re learning more every day, and some days its discovering one tiny difference between two regions, and some days its discovering differences that separate continents of people genetically. So we’re still learning more all the time. But specifically for Europeans we see more specific differences for groups we might have lumped together. This is because it is easier to test European populations than other groups.
Yes 23 and me Is much better
The way it works is based on the prevalence of certain genetic markers in different regions. It’s impossible to get it as accurate as they are claiming. The data simply does not support their claims.
@Edward Noble There is no genetic testing involved when 23andMe is sliming your ancestry down to a specific region, it uses self reported data from your cousins on where their ancestors are from. For example, if it says “recent ancestry in the United Kingdom” under the British and Irish category, then that means they looked at your cousins and most of them reported ancestry from that region. Therefore, they put it in your results. Most of the time it’s accurate, but of course there can be some serious flaws in this method.
You should've taken 23andMe because they're much more specific in what countries you're from. Like mine told me I was likely to have ancestors from Bavaria, Germany, and Donegal, Ireland.

Looking at yours, I guess that german ancestry is just included in scandinavian ancestry and maybe a bit of eastern european. That would actually make sense, as it would be hard to pinpoint german ancestry, because through history it has always been a very mixed region and didn't form into a country before the late 19th century, so they just tried to make it similar to surrounding areas, which is why no 'german ancestry' exists on myheritage..
