I hope you enjoy the somewhat different approach to this video. It won't be a regular thing, but I had fun doing it and giving you an inside look into how my brain works when I play these levels lol.
Posted 1 day ago, interesting
@@Flegz1 Yeah I had to double take after seeing this comment.
I did not watch the video yet but this is a good idea
Props to you for putting all this effort into the level Dave! On top of that going back over and having to watch your own pain again 😂
It was fun
Thank you Dave. I’m a dad of two and a third that was due a couple days ago, and I started a pretty stressful job this year. Your videos really help fight the work and home anxiety. I hope you are well, and if you ever come through Tennessee you’re always welcome to some sweet tea and ribs.
I may take you up on that offer if me and my family are in the area! That sounds so good haha! I genuinely can't say thanks enough for watching these silly videos and of course best of luck with the new kiddo! The best part of coming home from a stressful job is a big hug from your kids and pretty soon you'll get 3 at one time! 😄
I'd actually be really interested in seeing more commentated episodes like this! It's nice getting an idea of what goes on in your mind as you play through some of these levels (and to be honest just levels in general) as well as being able to speak to how you might have been feeling in that particular moment without the emotional charge of said moment - it feels more personal. Thank you for sharing and take care!✨
Good comment. I agree, that would be cool.
I’m 48yrs old and never understood how anyone could watch someone play games on RUclips, but I somehow found your channel about two weeks ago and now I’m freakin addicted lol
Love this new style with the commentary along with your other videos.
Hopefully you show that next level you were trying to attempt.
I think it’s a combination of loving the old Super Mario Bros and your personality that has me watching so much.
I don’t play video games too much anymore, but am just amazed how you figure all of this stuff out.
I still don’t understand everything that is going on, but really enjoy your videos.
Keep up the good work.
Once and a while, a level will deserve this kind of deep dive.
Once in a while
A dumpster dive, if you will.
_''You call this a 'level'???''_
That is quite the honor that this is the level that gets the first ever commentary level and a boo and he has played A LOT of hot trash.
That level was so bad that even chat raged. i remember how upsetting it was and how ridiculous the solution was. Bean burritos level are hard and terrible but this is not a bean burrito style is just trash
Any level with such an obtuse solution that cannot reasonably be expected to be found by the average player is trash.
@@secoTheSonicFan - Oh I'm aware. Painfully so, as I play the game frequently and have come across more than my share of obtuse levels. I try my best to make sure my own levels are NOT utter garbage.
@@secoTheSonicFan But watching bad levels makes things interesting. Watching good levels is the most booring thing in the world.. Tho this level should be erased from history.
@@lharwest1571 I'm not sure. You do have a bit of a point though. A lot of the good levels I see on here are very similar to copy and paste being a lot of the kaizo stuff looking almost exactly the same level to level.
In a way troll levels can have that same appeal, but there is a little more room for variety there compared to kaizo.
What I really think nintendo should do is go based off of does a specific community like said level, not be like children and take down actual levels people like.
Going based off of a total number of attempts might be good because a lot of the levels especially in the uncleared series are 2+ years old with only like 38 plays or a similar number.
If a level goes that long without being played I'd trash collect it and delete it from the server. Definitely force a higher quality in level design. It may help with the variety? that one I'm not sure on.
They could ban hidden blocks altogether or make them almost visible like in 3D world. It wouldnt be the same without them though.
Honestly, a top 10 worst smm2 levels video from Dave would be quite fun. It would be cool to see him look back and determine which ones were the absolute worst. A top 10 best levels would work as well.
That would be AMAZING!
I approve of this idea.
The chat wasn't even mad when you bood the level. They knew your limit had been reached.
This video just confirms for me that whenever he says he has a plan, he really doesn't. Lol. Congrats for sticking it out.
"Hear me out..."
It feels like one of the "Find the hidden block" levels, but it's huge and overly complex making it so much worse.
Exactly that cept find the right power up
It's still a "find the hidden block" level though
Really enjoyed this video and it was a bit different from your normal thing. If you did a director's cut series I'd definitely love to watch it. You are one of the very few creators I look for on my notification tab.
I really appreciate that you do RUclips.
when in big groups like a twitch chat of 1000 people I tend to hide myself, so I feel better seeing your content from the video standpoint.
I really liked the commentary and I think that you should do it more often. Say, once every 2 weeks, just to freshen things up. Really enjoy your stuff. :)
The "never boo levels" testiment is actually something i'm 100% with, but this level is maliciously bad and thus is deserving of the boo imho
I honestly kinda enjoyed this new style. I wouldn't want it to become the norm for your channel to be sure, but I'd like to see a gentle sprinkling of this going forward. Maybe one a month or something?
You know, I wouldn't mind a video like this every now and again. That was very entertaining.
I personally would love a couple more like this. It was really nice peeping into that brain when it comes to these levels.
There's been a few Troll levels where it was clear it was getting under your skin. A few auto-levels where you went through everything only to have it turn into an auto-level comes to mind.
I would LOVE to see you do commentary for a few of those. What happened, what went wrong, etc. Those would be epic!
reminds me of a troll level i saw:
an automatic level SO complex you will ALWAYS run out of time just before the end!
What a great twist seeing you struggling and getting your inner thoughts at the same time. Nice idea. Really enjoyed this kind of video. Hoping there will be more videos like this. Thanks
Absolutely love the format of this video! Keep it coming Dave!
REALLY cool video Dave! If you are able to do more like this, I would love to see them.
Nah, that first level wouldn't even make the top 100 worst levels.
Its biggest crime is just having a hard to find exit due to the invisible blocks. If you had made it all the way down (you were extremely close), you would've ended up at the hidden pipe, revealing that it was all a big loop and the solution had to be elsewhere.
It lacked checkpoints, but for a fake route it was surprisingly well designed. I'm not saying it was award winning by any stretch, but powerups were plentiful and the challenges were largely doable with what you were given.
Overall, it was a tricky level with some unfair hidden blocks. Not even particularly evil or bad, just hard.
I don't know... If you need to trial error to figure out how the level works, you shouldn't make it long (like the do in troll levels, where, usually, dying makes you go back but not that far). Don't you think? It wasn't hard, hard, I can agree with that, but the pick a path parts only would make you repeat (and get tired and bored of) the first part to the point of starting to make mistakes and die and... Well, die IRL. 😅
@ I'm not saying it's a good level by any stretch. But the worst level ever? Not even close.
@@TheFinalChapters yeah, yes. I get you. Some hot garbage levels are objectively worse because they are bad on everything (level design, rhythm, hidden necessary items, tedious parts...). I just think that here (and maybe because of the commentary) it feels like it would be a torture to play this level.
i really like this format
Dave thanks for all your videos. My 9 year old son Preston loves them. Best part of our day is when he gets home from school he asks if there is a new DGR level and we sit and watch them together. His favorites are the TROLLED series. You’ve inspired him to make levels. He always wants show me his trolls lol. Again thanks for all the great content.
We need a 1 hour version of the ending. True beauty.
Put the Game Over screen into a glitch video filter app, loop it for an hour and add the Minigame Explanation music from Mario Party (N64).
I do like the spin you did today! Yet another level where the level viewer makes perfect sense.
Would really love to see more of this! Good job for sticking through to the end with this one Dave! :)
When a level is so bad that Dave, who is known for rarely giving a boo and even liking some not so great levels, dedicates a single video to trash said level!
Glad you posted this because I caught most of it on stream but didn't manage to catch you beating it!
That was some really good content. Go off on some tangents and some alternate thinking and it would be totally fire. Keep it up!
I love this idea for a video, on some of the worse levels I see content creators play, I sometimes wonder whats going through their minds haha
That level was the definition of hot garbage. That level creator made you suffer with the hidden blocks, secret power ups, and soft locks. Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't rage quit or stop playing. Dave and his chat are CHADS!
This is one of my favorite videos DGR, thank you for making me smile on a hard day :)
Honestly enjoyed this video format a lot! Would love to see more of it in the future :)
I laughed all the way through this video and my 3 year old son couldn’t look away! Bravo on this new approach on doing a video and I would definitely love to see more! Encore encore!!
Seeing this is truly scary. Imagine someone who does the same, but crank up the difficulty, make the dev path harder and longer. That could make levels close to impossible, even with the website looking at the level.
Yo...Davey baby! That spikey shellmet grab at 4:44 was top notch clean AF. Lol
one of the most unluckiest moment in DGR, heck, in Mario Maker history
This is a great dive. Really like the video format.
I love this new format!!! So cool to see your thoughts.
I’m sorry for the suffering you faced on the first level but these types of videos I love.
I really enjoyed this new format. Please consider doing it in the future!
Holy.. That was the most brutal worst level ever. Basically a find the hidden block level which are the worst. That next level didnt look much better though.
I quite like all the different uploads this week. all the differentiations on the normal episodes and just totally different stuff
This is a nice change of pace!
Could be fun to see this style in other situations :D
I liked this commentary style video ... I have always wondered what was going through your mind when playing a level (good or bad), even though your face always shows what you are feeling. I like watching your videos, and you inspired me to get SMM2 for myself.
First off i dont know how i missed this video. I watch all of DGR's uploads the same day. Im 8 days behind. 2nd i actually like the commentary.
I really enjoyed this approach and would love to see it more often if the chance is there.
I like the concept of the video, especially because you did beat it in the end, otherwise it would have been quite frustrating. The real question is however, if the level would have been beatable by doing it until the end, maybe there is a shoe and a door to the beginning. Then it wouldn't be too bad.
No, if you look in the level viewer, it's just a pipe that leads to another pipe that leads to that hidden pipe.
There's far worse levels than that, though.
This was a really cool idea for a video! I'd love to see more in the future sometime. Very nice.
I didn't follow the stream but this video was enough to piss me off. This level is diabolical and I'm being very nice.
I loved the post-commentary. It would be interesting to see it in a Trolled video. Cheers Dave!
Poor Dave. I would say I'm sorry I wasn't there for that stream, but no need for us both to suffer. I do like this format though and I hope you continue it for future videos.
Post level commentary is an interesting idea. To step it up a level, what would really be cool is if you did videos with troll level creators and talked about your play-through and general thoughts on the level.
I love the commentary! It kept me engaged
If I ever get the chance to make a super world of my own (kinda have to get a switch first), I'd definitely love to see that sort of thing happen. I've actually been thinking about making a few different ones, including one on Dave's favorite game of all time. I might just do that in the future, because that would indeed be really cool. Either way though, loved the video and would definitely like to see more of these. Maybe you could even do one for a troll level! I find myself sitting here watching you more than pretty much any other youtuber, and I'm always glad to see whatever comes up. Sometimes I even drop a like for more than just the video itself being good, but also to heal Dave's pain. Keep up the fun times Dave.
I hope Dave does more of this style in the future, this is cool.
I'd love to see more videos like these, Dave!
That level was awful, my philosophy with booing is "Did this level require obscure tech/a glitch/finding something hidden to complete?"
I thoroughly enjoy puzzles and levels which test your skills but stuff like this and 'refreshing' levels need to go away and/or be booed into oblivion.
As for the video, I liked hearing what you were thinking and seeing you make incremental progress until the realisation it was all in vain.
Must admit your reaction upon being 'gifted' the precision level after all you'd endured was priceless - can always rely on Super Expert being relentlessly brutal.
I salute you for persevering and for the viewers helping to end the misery, here's hoping we don't see another level like that for a long time.
Inside the mind of a DGR...a fascinating thing!
This is a great premises. Thank you for making it.
Loved this style of video! Would love to see more.
This a creator deserves all the boos
I really like this format and would love to see more commentary videos! ✌️ Preferably for bad levels. 😅
Loved this commentary video! Would like to see more!
Holy crap, that is the hottest of hot garbage. But I did enjoy this commentary idea!
As much as you dedicated yourself to this level, you could have dedicated to staring in a Weird Al bio pic and made gold
Loved this new commentary style video.
Haven't even watched the whole thing yet, but I would love to see this format of video on a Troll Level! Definitely my kind of style. 👍
Director's Cut analogy:
Dave's Commentary = Blade Runner
Dave's Gameplay = Star Wars
New trilogy maybe. Sorry, but you cannot compare his gameplay to the (otherwise) mostly-at-least-near-masterpiece of Star Wars otherwise.
...Unless, DGR is just Jar Jar Binks.
Some levels.....absolutely 100% deserve a boo.
I personally don't think booing a level is a big deal at all. I can see the other side of the coin, but in all, I like to think it does more good from a play experience.
Really, I'd put more of the onus on Nintendo needing to fix the system next time. Although the biggest gripe with MM2 is its far too limited in allowing players to find levels. There's already plenty of mechanics to make crazy worlds, but I really hope that for the next one, they completely overhaul the variety of ways you can find levels:
- Playing uncleared levels is a lot of fun. What's not fun? Having to sift through long lists of levels that are only uncleared because they have only existed a couple days. Why does it take a potentially illegal third party system to track down all the uncleared levels from 2019? Sorting by clear rate AND upload date (or any other combo of criteria) should absolutely be possible.
- Also, why do I need to manually select a level after doing my search criteria? How about a way to just auto-pick one at random for me?
- You know what really sucks about Endless mode? Losing all your lives, but wanting to still play the level. So now you have to leave the endless menu, go to played levels, and do it there. Then when done, you have to navigate back to endless and start back up again. Why not just let the player know that they lost, but they can choose to keep playing this level if they wish?
- And now bringing it back to the original topic of boos. I'll admit upfront, I'm not really sure I know how the level selection algorithm works in Endless. Does it favor liked levels over disliked levels? Considering how frequently trash shows up in endless, I kind of doubt it. So yeah, right now booing a level probably doesn't really serve much function at all. But it would be great if they made 'likability' a searchable option. Allow someone to set filters for only generally liked levels, generally disliked, etc. That way, if someone boos a level, it really isn't THAT big of a deal, and can even help a player better optimize their experience. For the people that complain that booing a level is bad, they're free to set their criteria for all the boo'd levels they wish and try to give them the love they deserve, lol
I don't know, there's so much more that Mario Maker could do with level select options, it's honestly kind of embarrassing how few modes there are. (It's absolutely ridiculous that there's ZERO search options for worlds, not even overall level difficulty. Does anyone even find worlds this way, or do you all do it like I do, where if I play a level I really like, I'll see if the person has a world, and then go play it?) I haven't even mentioned how dumb it is you can't search on actual text in the title/description, so here I am doing that now. The level selection algorithm for multiplayer is awful (why not let players pick from a set of tags/difficulties prior to playing, somewhat similar to co-op? And personally speaking, why is it that every level I make and tag as multiplayer has never been played multiplayer despite existing for a couple years now? Like... At least give it ONE chance to see if people enjoyed it or not, good lord...do you want to encourage people to make levels for that mode, or is it all just a waste of time because it will never see the light of day??)
Anyway, this has been my essay.
That second level looks like a true bean burrito. Patience and repetitiveness, tied up with the nice little bow of precise.
I am pretty sure that super expert saves all it's "good" levels for you. You are a better man then I for playing them. Keep fighting the good fight Dave.
It's a nice format! A Director's commentary track
This is the perfect video to watch right now
I love the commentary
Dave: "Listen chat"
Also dave: "AHHHH"
I like that approach to the video.
It also has me thinking you should use the same tool you used to count DGR levels to search for unclear ed levels with "bean burrito" in the title. When you are feeling good and masochistic.
Can I just say that I love the design of Paper Dave? It looks really good, seriously, and it helps that Paper Mario is one of my all time favorite games
I love this video Dave thanks for your content!!
I wouldn't min seeing more of these kind of videos.
I rarely get to catch you on twitch, so it's nice to know the back story to some of the jokes/shenanigans like the glasses and hats. I'm always so confused when there is a cut and next thing I know you have three hats on talking about some running joke I have no clue what it means!
Nice idea, I hope the next one like this won't be too far in the future 😁
Even if it's not a regular thing, it would be cool to see more videos like this in the future
This was a neat twist would watch more of this.
Hahaha love the commentary Dave!
There's something oddly satisfying about seeing real Dave, and hearing Dave from the future.
This video was awesome. Great concept.
Unconventional. I enjoyed this!
So I've seen several people do this style of presenting and I've hated them... however Dave you have a way of still making it entertaining... good job... keep it up
Would love to see more of these!
I hope you do this once in a while. It was a great video
i liked the different take on the video, it was great
A minute of silence for all those who reached the bottom of the level thinking that was the way to beat it o7
I definitely would watch more of director’s cut and commentary style videos done to other SMM levels.
This was actually a really good video
If a level cannot be beaten without the level viewer, it deserves a boo.
Let’s say you made it all the way through the sub world. Dead end 😂
When past Dave and Present Dave unite to defeat one foe…you understand something terrible is happening in a level
I’ve only seen Dave more aggravated than this when he played a smm1 troll level where he had to quit and go for a run lol this looked painful.
