    FYI: Bleach should NOT used for cleaning in puppy/ welping areas. Also do not use pine oils, phenols or quaternary ammonium products,they are leading causes of fading puppies syndrome, per Revival Aznimal health, a free veterinarian based educational/ teaching site on RUclips. They strongly suggest using chlorhexidine products designed for instrument & kennel cleaning. They also make a dog shampoo with it and recommend the use of it prior to whelping. Wishing you all the best with your new litter!

      They also reccomend on surfaces , not the dogs, an hydrogen peroxide desinfectant for preventiong and the managing of viruses (specially parvo) and bacteria/fungus, cause sadly chlorhexine does not kill parvo (Bleach does)

    I have a couple tips.
    Reptile tip: you can get a thermostat for your heating pad; this will switch it on and off depending on the temperature you set it on.
    Teachers tip: make copies from your book; so you only have to buy it once. We do this with coloring books.

    I love your organization!!! I had everything in a tote but and not as organized which made labor super crazy trying to find everything. Also fyi: my reproductive vet just said to use 1/4th a tums (any flavor) for the calcium and only if labor goes over 30 minutes between puppies. He said you don't need the calcium syringes as they are really expensive and tums is just as good. My girl had 8 puppies all with in 4 hours. She just popped them all out like it was nothing and all the puppies survived.

      You’re very welcome! Glad this has helped. Although I’d strongly urge you to spay her after this since she is unregistered with no pedigree to be able to research. There is a whole list of other items that need to be done before breeding responsibly such as health testing and hip OFAs and even still without knowledge of her family tree, she may have underlying genetic health issues that could be passed on to puppies. Good luck with her delivery!

    Good Video thanks for showing. You could also use a ear thermometer. There are Special ones also usable for dogs and maybe puppy Milk as Well. I freezed some colostrum of Bitches, who had to much Milk. So when you have a weak puppy you can defreeze it and give them antibodys which are in the colostrum. I also have a Chicken heating Plate, that gives heating from above for weak puppys also nice.

    I have a Mini Aussie who I got without much background on her. I think she was at the end of a heat when I got her. I've had her six weeks so far, and I'm pretty sure she's going to have puppies! I've never had an unspayed female before and I'm highly nervous. Taking her to the vet tomorrow for a checkup to see, but her nipples are bigger and belly seems bigger than when I first got her. This is the first video I've watched so far. I had planned on getting her fixed, but will wait now of course if she's having puppies. But I'm overwhelmed with how many supplies and things are needed! This would be a big expense for a one-time pregnancy. I'll be studying up on all this and watching more videos. Phew-I'm a little panicked right now.

    What do use to wash the blankets and if you use washable puppy pads after the puppies are born. I have been following the instructions on the pads and it just isn't getting them clean. Our dam has an urge to dig and the disposable pads don't work for her. We have to be careful with blankets too because she digs around and puppies end up under the blanket. Thankfully I can be here with her almost all the time and I have a camera to keep an eye on them while I am gone. I don't leave long and it's usually between feedings so it's no likely she gets back in the box. Thanks for the video! Everyone should def follow all your tips!

    • @sandollaraussies
      @sandollaraussies  9 месяцев назад

      The disposable pads are only used during whelping itself. I don’t used them again until later in the weaning pen. I wash the blankets like regular laundry using soap pods. And I don’t leave the blankets loose in there, I stretch them out so the sides are held down under the box and the puppies cant get under them.

    It was recommended to me by vets on RUclips to breed young and every heat, then stop. Skip first heat, then breed every heat after that for a reasonable amount of litters. This is actually the healthiest for your bitch and her puppies. Just pointing this out as she said she only breeds every two years. The reason has to do with the way their heat cycles work, and how their uterus does not work like a humans.

    • @sandollaraussies
      @sandollaraussies  8 месяцев назад +2

      My dogs are first and foremost our family companions and not here to pump out litters every 6 months. Also, I’m not breeding the same dog every time. OFA’s cannot be done until 2 years old which is older than one heat cycle so it sounds like your RUclips vets don’t know about appropriate testing either. 🙄

    • @justinthomas3253
      @justinthomas3253 8 месяцев назад +1

      @sandollaraussies I was just posting this as a general rule of thumb. It was pitched as being the healthiest way to breed dogs to me. Dogs don't slough the lining of the uterus during heat. The more heats before breeding the tougher the uterus lining and less likely she is to have successful litters. Same reason to breed regularly if I remember correctly. Breed while young, then let moma retire.

    Hi I have a Question, Is this a very good box for Mommy and Puppies? Also can you put any blankets Or covers in there? Since the whelping box is plastic it looks slippery

    • @sandollaraussies
      @sandollaraussies  3 года назад +1

      This is a popular lightweight option for those who don't bred a lot of litters. It is easy to set up and store however, due to that it is a little flimsy and I can see it breaking down faster with heavy use. I have used mine with no problems and love it. A heavy duty option I would recommend is Jonart. You can put blankets in while nesting but once puppies are there it is dangerous to keep loose blankets in there as they can get stuck under there or mom can step on them. Durawhelp sells a soft mat that fits in the box and is secure to use once puppies are in there.
