      In her book she says Ana was very mean to her when she first started till one day Ana heard Sunny speak Spanish to Jlo’s mother at the View which shocked Ana. She began to have a friendship with Sunny so it’s interesting to see Ana bring up Sunny teaching her about race.

    Thank you sunny for being so honest about the colorism in the Hispanic community. I moved to NYC 10 years ago and it's so interesting that NYC has so many Spanish speaking people of African descent but look down on other Caribbean and ppl from the African diaspora .especially Puerto Rican and Dominican ppl. They identify with their colonizers..."they are Spanish" but we are not considered "English". It never made sense to me. I was always confused bc I grew up in the south and didn't experience as much racism from white ppl than from Hispanics (both afro Latin , euro presenting or indigenous)now that I live in NYC. , although many look exactly like me. I'm also Caribbeanand and also biracial. You def help me find more understanding on this. Love you're transparency on everything.

    • @AuthorLHollingsworth

      Those ideas were created by the colonizers that brought our African ancestors to the new world. Colorism is so sad across the board, but we Diaspora Africans are starting to wake up.

    This was such a strong interview, you can tell you gave her such comfort to tell her story, that's a great skill. When she spoke on the differences between the black and latino community that was SO important. A lot of times we feel like the black community is so split, and it's important to speak about the ways we are united, from someone who's experienced both. Thats not saying the black community doesn't have work to do with colorism etc...

It's incredibly difficult to grow up biracial. Especially when you're of the age when you had to pick one. The colorism.is real in the Hispanic community. I identify as Black because it was the race that was most influential in my life but it was also the race that was most accepting of me as a person. There are some who assume that I think I'm cute because I am light skinned, but overall it's the community who doesn't care. We come in all colors of the rainbow and I am always so comfortable because we speak the same language. Not a spoken language but the language of our hearts is the same.

    Just in my experience, my Hispanic side( Mexican)was the one who made racist comments towards black ppl.

      That’s sad state of affairs😞. How did it affect you growing up?

    • @sherrelljames7930
      @sherrelljames7930 3 года назад +8

      @@literarylady1125 it didnt affect me til now , as kids we were just used to it, it was more indirect like they would talk about black ppl as a whole or make comments in spanish. It dawned on me at my grandma funeral that these mfs are racist. My grandmother wasnt racist at all, she said her dad was black or mixed but she never got to meet him, so idky her kids were it could be because our home town is mostly Hispanic.

    I’ve always seen her on the View but kinda took her for granted because I didn’t know what she was about...I’m so glad I watched this interview. She is a great positive role model.🌹

    Sunny Hostin is one of my favorite people on TV. She is humble, smart, quick, and inspirational. I always used to say when I was a gay male growing up, I think people try to tell me what gender I am to decide how they can judge me... BLEW ME AWAY when I heard her say this in this interview about herself growing up in regards to race.

    Sunny!!!!!! This is an amazing interview that I'm sharing with so many people. Sunny is not only brilliant and charismatic but she is strategic and REAL. I'm from the Bronx and have also grown up between two cultures. Her experience on biases, colorism, Latinism, Black women's burden is on POINT. And YES the most disrespected person is the Black woman. THANK YOU for being you Sunny and being a prime example of a BRONX QUEEN !!
