In this video - our trip to Kitayev, a historical place in the Holosiiv district of Kyiv. It is located on the southern outskirts of the city in the eastern part of the Holosiyiv Forest, between the streets of Chinaivska, Pyrogovskyi Shlach and Prospekt Nauka.
It is believed that the name of China comes from the Turkic word "china", which means "wall, fortification, fortress". We agree with this version, because the word "kiy" from which "China" comes (as well as the name of our city Kyiv) has a translation in other languages, in particular from Finnish - "stone". Thus, in the name of China, information is preserved about the existence of strongholds, fortifications, stone structures on this territory, rather - underground, in our opinion, similar to the underground levels of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Because the cave monastery Chinaivska hermitage, created here on the basis of ancient dungeons in the 14th century, was a hermitage of the Lavra and from the 17th century it was subordinated to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Therefore, the relief of the territory should have hills, ancient mounds, and the word "kurgan" in Turkic languages means a fortress, a tenement house.
From historical information, Kitaev has preserved the remains of a settlement, a village and a barrow burial ground of the 10th - 13th centuries, as well as fortifications and cave cells from the times of Kyivan Rus.
There is also a legend that in the 12th century, the fortress-palace of Andrii Bogolyubsky, nicknamed China, was located here.
Ancient buildings/artificial hills/mounds usually have bodies of water nearby - a river or a system of ponds.
Chinaivsky ponds - a group of ponds on the Chinaivsky stream. The area is 4.3 hectares.
Our journey to the entrance to the ancient Chinese caves begins with the Holy Trinity Monastery, better known as the Chinese Desert, which was active in the 18th - early 20th centuries and was restored in the 1990s. We walk from one mound-hill to another, separated by picturesque ponds.
What dungeons these ancient hills hide remains a mystery. Scientists do not have a single conclusion about the age of the Kitayevsky Caves. It is believed that the man-made caves in Kitayhora, very similar in structure to the caves of the Kyiv Lavra, appeared in pre-Christian times.
Monks lived in the Chinese caves from the 11th to the 17th century, and even after the Mongol-Tatar invasion, they were not emptied, but, on the contrary, were a fairly reliable shelter for Lavra monks. The silence and serenity of the caves promote solitude and prayer.
In 1771, seclusion was prohibited in the Russian Empire by government decree. Monks were ordered to live only in monasteries. This explains the almost century-long neglect of the Chinese caves, which resulted in numerous destructions for them. In places where the caves come close to the surface, the root system of trees forms a thick coat on the vaults of the galleries. In 1857, a novice in the China desert accidentally discovered a cave on a mountain: a stake he drove into the ground fell into it. The cave turned out to be ancient, everywhere there were traces of monks.

An old chestnut tree planted by Metropolitan Peter Mohyla. After all, a fair interest is why this tree was planted in the middle of an already huge forest. Потом , правда , на тюрьму поехал .
Не знакомы с такой информацией, потому от комментария воздержимся. Но. Знакомы с версией, что пагорбы Китаевской пустыни с обеих сторон прудов являются курганами, с насыпанным сверху грунтом. Лаврский скит. Потому аналогично лаврским и Аскольдовой горе ( и др.) должны иметь уровневую систему сооружений вниз. Там что угодно найти можно было, но... Курганы, это могильники, дохристианские, древние, и, врядли такие размеры для захоронения остатков тел. Это другие ( иные) могильники, святые, от слова светящие.. Оттуда клады носить - мягко говоря безумие.
