That vocal break you're talking about, we call the Mori squeak. It's a temporary access to whistle register that some can do, but she's the best at. To hear her best Mariah impression, check out her cover of "Fly Like a Bird". It's what made me fall in love with her.
The Mariah type sounds she makes are called squeaks. She does whistle as well. Another Mariah influence is how she moves her arms while singing. This is the second Wish Bus performance of Morissette EVER when she was just nearly 20. Her performance of Secret Love Song that went viral worldwide was a few months later. Her landmark Wish Bus performances like Rise Up, Akin Ka Na Lang and Never Enough were when she was 22 and her greatest Wish Bus Performance to date "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" was last year when she was 26. She always was a very exceptional talent but one can hear how she gets better and better over the years. A bit like a Martial Arts black belt who keeps reaching new levels of mastery. You'll have to go back to her The Voice Philippines "Love on Top" performance at 16 to see her not yet a "black belt"..

Phil Collins was the original singer of the song
You might want to change the title from Mariah Carey to Phil Collins, as it's HIS song, not hers. 😄
He started writing it back in 1980/81, not long after his first divorce, with the original title being "How Can You Sit There?". It was left off his 1st solo album Face Value; at the time he viewed it as a b-side.
Then a few years later, Taylor Hackford approached him to write a song for his 1984 film Against All Odds. So he rewrote it as Against The Odds, but Hackford insisted to have the word "All" in its place. So he complied. 😊
And in all honesty, I prefer Phil's version much more. It's raw and heartfelt. And although Mariah is a fantastic singer, no denying that, I find her version a bit too busy with that many notes.
Its a PHIL COLLINS song definitely not a Mariah Carey song, PHIL wrote this song for a film of the same name 🇬🇧.
