A quick disclaimer - A lot of these videos use information from the witcher wiki, in some cases I do read directly from the pages, I do always make sure to include my own thoughts and other information I know myself, but I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page here. Even though I use information from the wiki, I do still create the videos, with time, effort and a lot of editing! The idea behind the lore videos is to present to information to you guys in a fun and more interesting way then you guys having to get the information from pages and read it yourself. If anyone isn't okay with this I apologise, but since day one I have always said where I get the information from. Thank you for reading.

*Lvl 816 Dragonborn approaching in werewolf form*
Geralt would just kill Dragonborn if he was in werewolf form, werewolf form in skyrim is way too underpowered compared to normal human form.
@@frahkem at least it gives a passive full block to diseases and no extra weaknesses
@@frahkem yeah :/

If you could shout while being in wolf form aswell as the howl powers that would be frickin op
In the book "Season of storms" there is a werewolf who has a partner and a daughter (a child) that can also transform (the whole family can transform)
Wait really? Can you tell me more about this?
Little bit late, but Geralt originally let a werewolf live, I think he was able to transform at will, later found a werewolf wife and they had children who are born as werewolves as well. The wife and children actually attacked Geralt because they thought Geralt was there to kill them, before being stopped by the husband.
He later helped Geralt find a secret entrance and actually killed a human for the first time to save Geralt
Ah yes, Otto Dussart
There is also a similar family mentioned in a letter you find on the body of a bandit called "Little Red" in Yantra; the bandit and her parents are all werewolves.
This is what the letter says:
Dearest Lilly,
If you are reading this, that means both your father and I are dead. I have asked Egward to give you this letter only when it is certain neither of us will return.A great deal happened while you were away at the Academy. One of your father's ships sank and we fell into debt. I did not write you then because I did not want to worry you, did not want you to return - your education and future are what matters most to us. Our creditors began to call in our loans and refused to accept payment in installments. When we were forced to admit we could not return the entire sum, they swore to destroy us. Some thugs began following our every step, never letting us out of their sight. It was only a matter of time before the family secret was discovered. They directed the witch hunters to us and we were thrown in the dungeon. I heard the guards gossiping about how we are to have a show trial - and a show execution. I gave one my wedding ring and he agreed to allow Egward to visit us. Your father wishes to give him some final instructions and I want to give him this letter - our last, unexpected farewell.Be strong, my sweet, for in your veins flows the blood of men and wolves, and with that comes responsibility. I forbid you to avenge us. That will not bring us life, and will only bring you the executioner's axe. You cannot die, not in that way. You must prove with your life and conduct that men and lycanthropes can live together in harmony. Leave town as soon as possible. Take only what is necessary, say farewell to no one, do not show yourself in public. Journey to where we used to hunt when you were a young girl and brace for the worst. The people there surely do not remember us, but they are good, simple villagers - they will treat you with kindness. Let us hope the madness of this persecution will soon end and you will be able to return home. In the meantime, take care of yourself and do not let them provoke you. Remember who you are and do not let anyone convince you that is something evil - this is how you were born and you should be proud of it. Live for us. We love you.Mother
I like that the werewolves aren’t inherently evil, but they do have to cope with the curse. Or if they’re born and can learn to control themselves
Yeah the hunter is the perfect example of this or the Werewolf in the bad ending.

I'm late I know but could you imagine how cool a witcher that can transform into a werewolf would be???
That would be badass, if he could control it.
Duncan Wehrhahn when I was new to the series I thought Geralt "the white wolf" was a werewolf so I'm with you there I thought that was literal lol
I mean, it could be possible . But geralt or any other Witcher while cursed would break the curse the next day. So it'd be pointless, unless a random Witcher out of geralts life wanted more power along with being mutated.
ZenodudeMC I know he’s not but I always recognized his eyes are yellow same as the wolf
Reminds me of William from underworld
I was really obsessed with werewolves as a kid and I remember reading about a lot of mythology surrounding cursed werewolves: some could be cursed just for sleeping outside on a Wednesday or urinating outside (pretty severe in my opinion), sometimes wearing a Wolfskin belt could give one the power to transform, some could wear wolves hide - There's a rather sad story of a wolf coming to a doctor begging for his help saving his wife and it turns out both are humans who can transform--
In some cases the humans sound like they have a bit of control over their power as they only transform after they bury their clothing and can only turn back when they return for it. (of course mythology has some idiot who sees this and decides 'hey why not try to mug this werewolves clothes because yolo'))
I love werewolves too bro! What are the books that talks about werewolves that you've read or seen?
Oh no, I better not urinate outside then take a nap on Wednesday then
A short story video about how geralt imposed the law of surprise on pavetta and duny (emhyr) or how geralt came to be with ciri would be interesting!
Sure, that could be the next 'tale' !!!
It's a fucking TV series now lmao
"Little Red", or "Red something", the marauding girl? She had lycanthropy passed down to her. The quest in Yantra.

One example of a non cursed werewolf is the hunter Niellen though his situation was indeed bad it was never stated his transformations were due to a curse , as well as Red who clearly had control over transformations
My favourite monster to hunt is fiends wish there were more contracts in the game involving fiends
They're so awesome, I would love one hunting a manticore
WitcherGeorge i did like the quest Wild at Heart finding out that the guy who posted the contract was the Werewolf
If you're on PC there's a mod that adds random encounters, adds a lot of depth and gives you experience for killing monsters in future contracts! Just try not to run in to a basilisk that's 20 levels higher than you.
I always like the character tropes that use curses or evil origins for good. To me, the best werewolf trope is the one that embraces the change but finds a way to aim it like Bruce suggested in Incredible Hulk. There’s so much rage (due to the pain of the transformation and hunger for nutrients to heal) that it can cloud your judgement. So you simply throw yourself at the bad people.
I got way too excited seeing you’d posted. Great video as always! 💜 Teaching me more about a game I’m obsessed with

Hey man, I watched like all of your videos because I binged the Witcher series on Netflix and wanted to learn more. You do a great job and more than earned my sub! Thank you!
If I remember correctly, when you talk with the hunter in White Orchard (the one that lead you to the corpses of the soldiers killed by the griffin) Geralt, since the hunter mentioned that he was suffering from a certain condition, believed it was lycanthropy and explained that the curse could be lift. So, I know that with the one of "Wild Heart" he said differently, but maybe there could be a way.

Wish we could see a fight between a werewolf and a higher vampire.
As far as signs go, they hate it when I use my flamethrower hand. Then again, practically everything in that game hates it.
A higher vampire would win, hands down.
A werewolf honestly wouldnt stand a chance against a true Higher Vampire.
Higher vampire wins. Unseen elder one shots.
Maybe if they introduce Higher Werewolves who knows it’d be interesting
Speaking of werewolves, it's interesting the game didn't show ulfheddin very much as they are described being stronger than their werewolf cousins. Would love to see a video on ulfheddin. Though it does seem it would be very difficult given so little info is given about them.
Good idea!
We need more witcher content
Can higher vampires undergo the trial of the grasses to become even more powerful?
I don't think they would benefit any from doing trials of the grasses
Sometimes I feel like the mutations given to a Witcher are PARTIALLY a watered-down version of the advantages of a werewolf except without actually becoming a werewolf hence why Witchers still look human even though, as Geralt says, "I'm not human." With sideeffects of course like being sterile.
Excellent video George, actually cleared a few things up :)

I think both theories could be true. They could be magical / cursed creatures - but the actual disease is genetic in nature. The mages or magic users creating the curse might be using magic that is based on changing a person's genes. It's definitely a possibility in my opinion.
In lore, people tend to see werewolves as 'cursed' because they are capable of hurting people they love. Also, they just have a hard life in many ways. So a figurative curse became a literal one when mages got the idea to inflict this condition on people. It would be like in modern days when we have a disease caused by genetics such as MS and a doctor decides to give someone he hates gene therapy to make that person acquire MS.
I hope that makes sense. Obviously it's a hard comparison to make, but I think the general concept is legitimate. Lycanthropy existed before mages, and people knew about it, and considered the affected to be 'cursed' to have to live with such a condition, as we might consider people born with MS to be unlucky. Mages then took that literally, and decided making someone a werewolf would be a pretty good way to curse them. If they're adults, they probably wouldn't have learned how to control their condition right away, thus likely to act like a typical Witcher werewolf that kills their friends/family the first time they transform.
Maybe a video about the Northern-Nilfgaardian wars wouldn't be bad.Of course even though in the books it's not exactly a main event in the whole plot,Sapkowski did put a lot of mind and detail into it and I think it would be an amazing video from you narrating it.
By the way a great video as always.
soorena firouzabadi thank you mate and great suggestion

lycantrophe vs a higher vampire who would win?...the lycanthrope can be berserker if you want
Higher Vampire I reckon
Being a werewolf is a curse, it's not like being a higher vampire which has good perks. Werewolves are uncontrollably crazed. They have no control, vicious, unpredictable. Full of pain.
it depends, I mean look at Vincent
@@WitcherGeorge who's Vincent
Hey was wondering lore wise are they immortal? Either ones born or cursed. Or do they age extremely slow due to the healing factor they possess. Thanks hope to get some light on it.
Most mythology I've come across says they're not immortal but are extremely long lived. Yes, healing factor retards the aging process for them.

As I remember, please correct me if I'm wrong, in Morgwarth case he's curse by one of his crew member for killing the priestess, the crew member has a fang of a werewolf his grandpa gave him and he scracth Morgwarth with it so it might be similar to rabid disease, it pass by biting other
A curse?! I wish I was a werewolf... Every night killing and eating fools, howl at the moon
I took a contract to track a mans missing wife her sister tried to pay me to lie and say I found her dead turns out the sister was in love with the man and found out he was a werewolf she took her sister to a cabin he stayed at when he transformed hoping she’d leave him but instead he saw her and killed her when he found out what happened he killed the sister then asked Geralt to kill him. It was one of the sadder sidequests I did
LycanThorpes are just wolves that hunt at Thorpe Park don't scare people bud!
In the Witcher 3 there s a bandit leader named Little Red that's threatening one of the villages. You can confront her and she turns into a Werewolf.
I want to know more about the Ulfhedinn, I never actually came across one in any of my of my playthroughs.

LOL!
Moon dust is actually used for things like ghouls, to keep them from transforming, dimeritium is what you use to negate magical abilities. But dont take that the wrong way, i love you videos man.
moondust can also stop magical abilities I believe (for example throwing them at wraiths) and thank you!
@@WitcherGeorge tested, it just negates transformation in certain creatures, dimeritium bombs are pretty much only useful for Elementals and the stand at Kaer Morhen lol for portals, i even tried using it on that Oferi Mage that takes you after killing the toad prince. WitcherGeorge Wow! Thanks for replying I look forward to seeing that video
And what about Ulfhedinn ? Are they just bigger werewolf ?
I thought that for the werewolf race of the 'Ulfhedinn' I would make it kind of like a character video, as it would've made this video too long haha
0:58 - It’s LYCANTHROPES not LYCAN-THORPS. An understandable misreading but it comes from the word lycanthropy hence ly-can-thropes.
Also its pronounced ERR-duhn NOT YAR-duhn. The sign is spelled YRDEN and if you read the books or indeed listen to the in-game dialogue you will hear it pronounced by Yennefer at Kaer Morhen as ERR-duhn.
I think that it's a curse that can sometimes follow the cursed one's bloodline
I think you are misinterpreting what "Cursed ones" signifies. Lycanthrope is a curse, weather gained from genetics or by other means, it is still a curse, if you choose to see it as a gift still does not change the fact that you are cursed. I know that in normal cases, cursed would be towards something that was considered annoying/bad, so if you wanted this, it wouldn't technically be a curse. But I think Witcher 3 bases its werewolves of the European lore, and I believe the origin of werewolves lore is that it was a curse on a king, because he fed human flesh to a god to insult him, so he cursed the king so that he wouldn't be able to use his silverware anymore, and be forced to transform at a full moon to eat human flesh including his family. I may have missed out some information or mixed things up slightly but that's the gist of it. A werewolf to most would be considered a curse and even if not, it would have been first given as a curse.
Your completely right about that, I came here to know about the werewolves in the witcher, not his theories.
I leveled Axii in the early game in Witcher 3 found out that I can stun a werewolf and get 2-3 hits of by then your Axii is nearly charged again. I don’t know if it works on every werewolf tho.
There, wolf. There, castle.
As someone who loves wolves and werewolves and loves American werewolf in London and plays with werewolves in magic the gathering...I'd be down to be a werewolf in the world of the witcher and have a little werewolf family lol 🐺
I already know all of this lore but I just can’t stop watching all your lore vids.

Could it be possible to be a werewolf and a witcher
Apparently one can also become a werewolf by being bitten by one. During a quest on Chapter III (Roche's path) in The Witcher 2 you can find the diary of a man that was attacked by a werewolf (or maybe just a wolf). He describes how he is becoming more wolf-like and after reading his diary he appears and you have to fight him.

Why can you pronounce lycanthropy correctly but not lycanthrope?
Also lycanthropy is a blessing when you have control over it,and a curse when you cannot, same thing with vampirism.

WitcherGeorge what about Ciri she didn’t get mutated
Geralt went through mutations suprisingly well so they decided to push it further, then his hair lost pigment.
I think with ciri it's meant to be symbolic, to show that she was destined for Geralt and he was destined for her.

Could a witcher become a werewolf
Do you like the witcher game story line ? Or the books story line.
You made 3 1/4 of that up right? The Witcher's portayal of various creatures isn't great, but necessary to create a great story driven rpg
1st thing to get straight. Lycanthropy became the name given to the disease carried by lycanthropes, which became classified as a person cursed to change into a hunger-blinded beast of various types, regardless how the curse was bestowed and the reasons beneficial or not it is a curse.
2nd the only differentiations between the types of lycanthrope are the animal types and when their changes happen, the bears come from the idea of skandanavian bersarks or berserkers who take narcotics to trigger it, but the werewolf is an anglosaxon invention and was meant as a form of punishment, a curse that changes them upon the 1st full moon then every night after.
And 3rd hunger blinded does mean completely driven by the primal instict, this and when they're in their beast form is where The Witcher has compromised to make the game playable
Mixing mythos is always a bad idea if people are convinced it's based on something it's not, writers and designers are to blame for this kind of confusion. But it does make a great game
Interesting.. how do you know all of this?
So can we fight multiple of each creature or a set number based on contracts
It depends on the creature!
@@WitcherGeorge werewolf's and vampires preferably
Werewolves being cursed and no disease or genetic hereditary works. If they are cursed and have children after, the children could be afflicted by the curse.
