Beautiful knife but you'd think by now companies would realize sharpening a knife is part of using it and how a proper choil or 90° plunge makes it much easier to do that. Crazy simple concept that anyone who sharpens thier own knives can relate to. I don't mind cutting my own in when possible but it's something that designers should be on top of or factories where they are made. The knife other than that looks great and seems to perform very well, as far as price goes it's a big jump from what they were selling their models at previously, but like anything else if it's worth it to you many will not have a problem paying that much for it. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

Looks great hopefully they can improve that plunge grind in future batches. Tactile seems to be very willing to listen to customers so fingers crossed they fix the plunge grind and separates it from the edge. This is a question I would keep ask knife companies: How many sharpening's can a customer expect before the knife before it get's ugly? If the answer is less than 10, I think it's time to go back to the drawing board and figure something out that work with the design.

Compare the Archers choil and plunge grind to the Shirogorov F95 and Quantum and the newer Ursus which are way way smaller than the Archer.
There’s lots of knives without sharpening choils too that have to be very carefully sharpened. A stone is just too clumsy….
If you can’t sharpen the very last millimeters of edge on a stone surely you have a Wicked edge or a Work Sharp you can use??
The Archer is at least as good as my best Shirogorovs at a third of the price. But it’s still relatively high for most buyers.

Designers love making horrible plunge grinds a design element (I’ve seen many designers use a plunge exactly like the one depicted on this knife, I understand the angular look is cool & all but I’m all about functional beauty & more importantly ease of sharpening as my “to buy” or “not to buy”
deciding factor when reaching this price range.. This knife has a lot of great details but the plunge kills the entire package for me since I’d have to unfortunately modify a really expensive production knife if I wanted to maintain a well executed edge functionally & visually for the entire life of the knife. I suppose if it was going to be some glorified pocket jewelry I’d buy for my collection happiness but I’ve grown alot over the years regarding knives & the whole diminishing returns aspect. Before I hear, well, don’t buy it, relax, it’s Just my opinion.

  • @Trevlee74

Why?!? Why at these prices do these companies insist on machining such poor plunge lines? It’s not hard to do it correctly. After the first sharpening the edge will have that goofy smile. @NeevesKnives oh lmao. I was wondering! As a fellow sharpener, I really wish designers would pay more attention to the plunge grind/sharpening choil. If we're paying big money for them, we should have the ability to have a longer lifespan if needed. One edge on a knife, even a VERY high end steel will eventually need to be sharpened and doesn't last as long as people think. It's a shame this one is the way it is, because everything else with it is literally perfect. That one thing is enough to keep me from buying it. I feel like if more reviewers like yourself complained about how big of a deal that is, that more of the designers would pay attention. Here's the thing though, it's not like TJ is new to this. I'm almost completely sure he knows about things like this, so my question is why wouldn't he make a simple change like that?

What makes this knife so much more expensive than the other Tactile knives with the same materials and similar construction?
I believe that it can compete with other $600 knives. If this was their first knife, it still wouldn't be for me, but I wouldn't question the price nearly as much. But the fact they'e made knives seemingly the same way before but are charging around 70% more for this one needs an explanation IMO.
I'll also restate what others have said about the Benchmade Narrows not being a good comparison.

Everyone thinks this is expensive. It is not right on point. $600 would be nice. But for USA 🇺🇸 manufacturing at this quality is right where it should be. There's plenty of examples of Chinese manufacturing at the same price w/less quality. Let alone it 3 to 4x's cheaper to make...

  • @EastCoastMan603

Jered, I put this comment forward, that I don’t have the answer to. .. Im a USA made proponent all the way. Japan, Taiwan I get it…people bitching in the comments about the price: it’s a top tier USA made designer (TJ Schwarz) made by a top tier Mfg. (Tactile) with the top USA made bearing mfg (skiff)… and people continue to bitch about $500+.
I propose that people have been spoiled by Chinese mfg (sub heat treated steels, unknown quantities, ethics etc).
Peoples value system in my opinion is broken. I suggest we support USA made (I know you do), and we try to explain to knife enjoyers why the value is there (supporting USA jobs, designers, MFGs).
To anyone that’s doesn’t like what I’m saying… I don’t care. We have a huge responsibility as Americans, as to who we support. If you think your Chinese collections of polymer and d2 is worth it…enjoy. If you want to support USA citizens, then do it and choose wisely.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Christ Died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was Buried, and that He Rose Again the Third Day according to the scriptures. Accept Christ as Savior and BELIEVE in Him and what He did for YOU at the Cross. Christ is coming back for us so much SOONER than we Think!!!!!. The Rapture of the Church is IMMINENT and if you’re Not Saved, You will be Left Behind and go Through The Great Tribulation( 7 years of Hell on earth ) that this world is Very quickly Leading towards. If you die in your sins without Being Saved, You will Spend Eternity in Hell Separated from God. Your Next breath is NOT guaranteed, Prepare your soul Now for it will spend Eternity in one of Two Places, Heaven or Hell. Call on Christ Today for He’s waiting for YOU with Open Arms, and No matter what You’ve Done He will Forgive You, the Only sin God won’t Forgive is Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit( unbelief ).
