  • On March 29th, 2024 at 4:15 PM, a call came in to the Montgomery County 911 Center reporting of a collapse at the old tobacco warehouse on Levee road just off of the bypass and Fogg Pike. Employees inside the warehouse were working underneath the floor level trying to reinforce floorboards that were weakening when a section gave way. One worker was trapped underneath the rubble, which included several hundred pounds of wooden pallets, doors, and other various carpentry items. At the time of the call, the victim was unresponsive with no signs of life that could be heard. Upon the first units arrival, the victim was pronounced DOA. What followed for the next nine hours were the recovery operations to get the body out of the collapsed zone. Several surrounding agencies responded mutual aid to assist, including Rescue 2 from City of Winchester Fire Department, units with Lexington Fire department, Jessamine Co. Fire department, as well as State Emergency Management and Rowan Co. Emergency Management. Local units on scene included the Mt. Sterling Police Department, Montgomery Co. Fire/EMS, Sheriffs Office, Emergency Management, Building Inspector, and Road Department. By around 1 AM, units on scene had recovered the body and placed it in the care of the Montgomery Co. Coroner. All units cleared by 1:30 AM. This is my recording of Winchester Rescue 2 coming into the county. I did not get any video of any of the other responding departments since they were farther away and I had no idea when they would be coming unlike Winchester.
