  • Ben Derbyshire addresses the poor relationship between producers and consumers in the homebuilding industry and the negative impact this has on the quality and value of the product.
Drawing on his book, Home Truths, published last year, Ben discusses the nature of consumer pull, drawing comparisons with other industries where performance is predicted, measured and valued. At the heart of the problem is the paucity and poor predictability of data on housing performance and the dearth of post occupancy evaluation. Ben will share work in collaboration with others on home performance labelling, post occupancy evaluation and property log books - all part of a movement aimed at giving consumers more choice and control. Ben will be joined by Nigel Whalley, CEO of Chimni, a digital logbook start up.
Ben Derbyshire is Chair of HTA Design LLP and Immediate Past President of RIBA, serving as President from September 2017 to August 2019. Ben is a Commissioner at Historic England having been appointed in September 2019 and is member of New London Sounding Board, the advisory Board to New London Architecture. New London Architecture is a membership organisation devoted to bringing People Together to Shape a Better City.
