Next World Cup is gonna be great, I'm sure everyone is going to be rushing home to watch the group T match between Kazakhstan and the Federated States of Micronesia.
Hahaha amazing comment
Why are you hating though?
I would, don't be a dick!
@@cviasco8571 My point was that allowing more teams will lower the overall quality. People won't want to watch League 2 standard games at what is supposed to be the worlds "Elite" sporting competition.
They'd both beat Scotland
Wow! FIFA's greed is insatiable. They are running the players into the ground. 😔😔😔
Get paid enough
UEFA is worse actually
With the amount of their ridiculous salaries, hell yeah they need to play more.
@@Ackshuallymmm .....yeah, we know that ......ALL these international sports bodies are.....so what’s your point?
They get paid crap loads, I'd have them playing everyday.
So they weren't *really* against the super league, they just wanted to control it themselves... and not have the clubs control it
No- the super league wasn’t world wide. And it was exclusionary- and this is fifa not uefa
exactly flaming well right we knew it all along so n ow all the top leagues will be down to 16 and one cup ffs
It’s the same thing as the super league just that FIFA is including teams from other countries which we all know are not good competition to those in Europe.
@@josejpadilla5928 no because the super league had clubs that qualified always regardless of performance.
@@josejpadilla5928 No. The Club World Cup with 32 teams will be more like the World Cup.
Some fans are blaming FIFA for this problem of overscheduling but didn't bat an eyelid at Uefa when they put on more Nations League matches during the last summer break in June/July
That's cause nations league is just reformatted friendly games that have always existed. This CWC would be an entirely new tournament basically
@@Stinkmeaner420 The Nations League requires teams to play more games though. The Belgian goalkeeper after Nations League match last year was complaining about the more games that new League introduced.
This never ending greed will be the death of football in the end.
People around the world want to see more top class football. The only greed on show here is from entitled fans like you who think that everything should revolve around you.
I hope the Super League haapens and these greedy teams piss off and leave the real football to the rest.
Greed is ruining everything in Britain, not just football. Why migrants are drowning trying to reach the UK, baffles me. The days of Great Britain are long gone. Should be renamed Greedy Britain
As bad as it sounds,
No it will not be the death. They are making more money than ever. The sport is bigger than ever
Football is bigger than ever in countries that don't consider it their number 1 spor. World cups in the middle east and next North America

Love how Simon tells Keown straight about players unions....
Players are already so overworked, adding more tournaments like this will undoubtably lower the quality of football we see

This is killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. There is such a thing as oversaturation. And there is such a thing as quantity over quality. There is only so much football ⚽ that can be played and maintain a level of quality games.
If it's oversaturation the market will determine that. If people don't watch it then it won't prosper. If people enjoy it, then it will. I'm guessing you're one of those types that think that you alone should judge what's good for people and what's not?
@@daleviker5884 Geez....tone down the Assumptions. They make an ass out of you. Where the hell did I say what anyone can or cannot enjoy? Is putting words in other people's mouths your special talent? I simply pointed out ..... factually so.....that you can kill something by overdoing it. I never made any predictions as to if they could maintain quality or if people would watch. Only that viewership could drop if the quality does due to oversaturation. That is a PERFECTLY reasonable and logical statement. How on earth you jumped to your odd conclusion and decided you needed to accuse me of telling other people what to enjoy is beyond me. I hope you are not a native English speaker, because if you are .......yikes. As your reading comprehension skills are severely lacking.
Clubs will need 3 players for every position to compete in everything
A few fake mustaches should do the trick. Save of wages.

This is a great idea. This is actually turning the current club world cup into a much more competitive and serious format. Having the title and trophy of best club in the world should mean something. A group stage would mean that Real Madrid wouldn't have to be automatically awarded a semi final place. The idea of a competitive international club format is also a way of getting more money out of the club world cup potential that it really should be. More money for clubs around the world. It's not like the top 6 teams don't have an enlarged and rotated squad to compete in multiple competitions.
This is good. More intercontinental competitions. The teams that will be part of this competition are big enough to field different players. Of course it is about money.
You guys talking on TalkSport about this is about money.
I'm surprised that Jim never mentioned that Chelsea won the world club cup recently.
Wouldn't be a bad thing imo if fifa hadn't just demonstrated they can't run the normal world cup. No doubt fifa will announce how green it is too, never mind all the teams flying all over the place unnecessarily
What a load. This world cup has been great.
It's lowering the bar of the qualification and adding more rubbish to the main event
@Joachim Petersen it really hasn't. Barely any goals for most of it, empty stadiums yet they announce attendances higher than the capacity on at least 2 occasions, fifa threats, and just generally really poor quality football.
@@neilg6675 the world cup has been great
The problem was the fear mongering before hand which made fans afraid to travel
Only the first few games struggled for attendance and a few more in group stage . The rest have been full maybe bar 1 or 2 more in group stage.
Plenty of goals, Theres been 163 goals. Expected to be around 168 when the tournament is concluded which is only 11 less than the highest ever. Football has been fine. A few under dogs and 2 of the 3 favourites have reached the final.
The group stage were the most exciting ever with groups being left undecided until the last match day with shocks
People who went have enjoyed it. It's been easy to get around and well organised. Fans have praised it as one of the best. Fan behaviour at an all time high as is health and safety
Accommodation for some has been an issue. Overpriced but the experience has been positive
Issue is the slave labour to build the stadiums. Should never have gone there but it's been organised well, but considering the money spent, it's to be expected.
@Mainly Everything the attendances have improved in the last few games, though in part due to fans being given tickets, Senegal fa gave their fans 15000 tickets for the England game. The referees have been a joke, var was pretty good in Russia and that convinced the world it was ready, no one would use var off the back of this wc. Fans chucked out of hotels, road signs for stadiums to no where, that's without mentioning all the human rights issues. I've watched more 0-0 draws than I've seen in my life, a few very high scoring games have given a false impression for goals scored.
It's unfortunate for the big leagues. Mostly English who doesn't have a winter break. Bt ultimately these competitions are needed to grow the quality in other countries.
The English have a winter break obviously not this year because of the World Cup
The pl has a 2 week break every winter now it’s just structured so games are always on

I quite like the idea of a proper club world cup, the one we have now is absolutely pointless so either get rid or Improve it.

idk how i ended up listening to you guys all the way from boston but i love the easy going conversations. keep up the great work guys
For the normal worldcup What hotels are all these players, staff and fans gonna stay in ?
I think in order to handle this type of schedule every team need 2 squads one for fifa tournament and 1 for premier league.
Think about clubs outside Europe we need this our clubs need to play at the same level and same fame we don't need football to be Europe focused
But the point stays the same. Even clubs from outside Europe are playing a ridiculous amount of games. Most leagues have 20 teams so 38 games per season as usual. All of them have cup games and some have 2 cups so all the same, and every continent have a ucl equivalent which for the most part follow the same format, this isn't about being from Europe or Asia or Africa or whatever this is about overworking players beyond what's reasonable. The only argument that can be used against Europe is the introduction of the nations league which let's be honest is being treated as a friendly competition and nothing more.
Yikes man looks like moving forward teams will need 3 first teams to compete for any competition. The prem is already struggling to compete with super teams like man city.
Think about the bigger picture
Clubs from undeveloped continents can attract lucrative sponsorship deals via this tournament and can also sell their players for huge sums of money when they perform on such a big stage
Uefa Champions League and Copa Libertadores are not the only club competitions which need attention if FIFA wants to develop football to the highest level on all continents
The Club World Cup would be play with the same format as the original one thus 7 games maximum, and you think 7 games in a period of 1 month in every 4 years will hurt players? Common man
They are paid huge sums of money weekly but they play 3 games at most in the week ,compare that to the average worker
This is great initiative by FIFA
The more games added into the season, their is a real danger of players getting burned out, like with Arsene Wenger coming up with the idea of having the world cup every 2 years
Wenger's clearly on the dirty money, stupid idea after stupid idea since taking his money.
The very same Wenger when managing Arsenal bemoaned (rightly so), the amount of games played.
Then joins FIFA and now promotes the opposite, what caused such a 180 change of mind?
then reduce the number of league games simple fix.
What’s wrong with giving smaller nations a platform and don’t tell me top tier nations don’t have the depth of squads to manage?
Becuse eurocentrism and elitism.
Keown working then pressure points 😅
Also the ufa need to start to cap players wages within finance rules

It's all to do with money.
Maybe we could have a local Sunday league side enter as well.Make it 132 teams.
Ok, slowly, nearly there. It's all about money. And where does the money come from? It comes from more people watching more games. So when you say "it's all about money", your complaint is really about the governing body giving more people more of what they want to see. Why would you have a problem with that? Because you're one of those arrogant tossers that think that you should get to decide what's right for billions of others. How about letting other people decide whether they like it or not?
The lucrative contracts players are on these days means this was inevitable
At this rate, clubs will need to have 50 men squads.
Turning into American 'Football'.
and two tiers of management!
like chelsea you mean
Imagine a world cup group stage with Brazil,Italy, myanmar and barbados.
The answer to managing how many games players play with football expanding, is to allow clubs to have larger squads. The Champions League only permits what, 23 full pros and if they're injured the club has to fall back on their academy players despite generally having a squad of 30 odd senior pros. Larger squads could also go part of the way to reducing player power and their super-agents getting them extortionate contracts. They shouldn't be paid 2 million per week and getting hundreds of millions as a sign on bonus. If they're passionate about the game and want to establish themselves high up in the legends list, it should be for pride and success, not obscene amounts of money. They'll still get far more money than the average person which I don't mind too much but it's gone way to far.
To be fair, In the past, I saw Boca Juniors demolish Milan (2003), Vasco Da Gama demolish Manchester United (2000), São Paulo beat the crap of Barcelona and Milan (92 and 93), sometimes the South America side, suffered but managed to beat the European side, like Corinthians beating Chelsea in 2012, São Paulo beating Liverpool in 2005, Internacional beating Ronaldinho's Barcelona in 2006 , and European side winning by referee mistakes (Palmeiras x Manchester in 99), or suffering but winning in the end (Vasco x Real Madrid in 98). In 2022, Chelsea struggled to beat Palmeiras, only winning in the prorogation after 1 x 1 in the match.
20 years old kids maybe has the illusion that Europe football were always all bells and whistles, but it's only recently (maybe last 20 years) that the balance was ruined between Europe and South America, probably because the European side wasn't allowed to have as many foreigners in the teams as they can today, so off course, the money the European clubs generate make easier for them to get all the best players from around the world, leaving the other leagues with only the leftovers.
A new 32 team Club World Cup is a good way to keep clubs from all around the world in touch. I believe that a Flamengo or Palmeiras can surprise the European side and do a surprisingly good competition. We'll see until then.
PS: The European side doesn't have an excuse to dismiss the new Club World Cup as they do with the actual iteration of the tournament, since there'll be 12 European Clubs, it's not much different than the Quarters of Final of a Champions League. I doubt a Real Madrid doesn't want to beat Barcelona, Bayern, Manchester City, Liverpool, PSG in the Club World Cup and be proclaimed the best club in the world, for example. Plus, I bet the Argentinean/Brazilian teams will surprise a lot of people and beat some of the European teams.
wow u went to all them games
good time to play youth and reserve
I think I like this because you have teams in regions dominate their leagues. To be fair you need new blood to spice things up build up rivalries

Someone please disband FIFA. A greedy, corrupt corporation like that shouldn't be allowed to dictate the world football.
It should be called the Contrived World Cup because the concept of the original founders of our FA Cup made sure the winners were alwaysd unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, the draw was completely without favour. The balls in the bag. I realise this is impossible with the World Cup for obvious reasons. Here in Sunday's final are two teams who have both lost on their way to the final. Add in the byzantine guíle exxercised to make sure powerful contenders don't eliminate each other.
Good comment.
FIFA greed is diabolical
UEFA are not much better. If this tournament didn't happen UEFA would just hold more Nations League games and top European clubs would play glorified exhibition games in North America, Asia and Australia in the summer break.
Not backing FIFA here, but the amount of teams is irrelevant. They're increasing the teams but they'll also increase the amount of groups in the tournament individual teams may only play 1 game more maybe 2
they are having 16 groups of 3....then straight to knockout stage, it is stupid.
and a crunched season with additional days to accommodate the bigger groups. So it is relevant.
It doesn't matter what players think. Clubs will be on board if more money is offered. Players get massive salaries, and clubs will take the money on offer from fifa.
Simon...college soccer? vs college Football or college basketball? dream on or inform yourself.
Get rid of the Euros and continental international tournaments, have half the international breaks, and do this, it will be way better than the current World Cup and do so much to develop football outside Europe
Why get rid of the Euros? I’d say get rid of the Nations League first
How will the 48 team World Cup work?? When it will eventually come down to 3 teams in the final
Right so the super league wasn’t allowed but they can just make cups and leagues out of thin air.
Frankly, I already find myself skipping over games more and more, because there´s just too many. Especially the Euros: qualification rounds are so easy now for strong countries that they have zero risk of not qualifying. The same applies for the group stages with 16 out of 24 progressing, where the 8 losers are almost certainly going to be the weak countries that wouldn't normally qualify. When just 16 teams played in the Euros, every group felt like a group of death.
Fair clud compilation. Keep it up FIFA!

It'll be once every 4 years and in the summer. I dont see what the big deal is.
Get what Martin is saying but the number of games he is speaking about is the number of games played mostly in England. However, other teams from around the world would relish this opportunity
It’s fine. The beautiful game doesn’t just belong to Europe. Let the national leagues remove a team or two from their table to reduce their games. Problem solved
Let me play the devil's advocate..These days there are soooo many players for few spots on the first team. More games, more subs, more competitions create opportunities for them. .
If the clubs expect this I don't here anymore we playing to many games from them
I reckon the big European clubs are either going to refuse their spots, or send their Reserves/B-teams. There's little point in competing for a trophy that's going to hamstring you winning the important competitions that actually get you there in the first place.
No different to how prem clubs treat the EFL trophy
If they set the super league It will possible to have less games in the calendar, and the way how anfantino speaks about football in the US remembers what Perez keep saying. I feel that something happens between the super league clubs and FIFA.
play the b team reserves or kids
Quality > Quantity
Top clubs will have to eventually have 2 first teams effectively - probably only Man City have that at the moment.
Players can opt out, as a player you can refuse to play for your national team so what’s the issue here?
Football becoming the number one sport in the US in the near future is fanciful. NFL is easily the biggest sport and it's cultural impact is so far ahead it won't be matched for a long time. NFl preseason game rate higher than the NBA finals. It's bigger than every other sports in the US combined. Second is college football, then basketball. With the (lack of) attention span of most Americans and they way football is structured the best hope would be the 4th most popular sport in the next 10 years or so. Which isn't bad at all.
Look, I'm an American, and I think 50% of my fellow citizens are some of the dumbest creatures to ever roam the Earth just like you undoubtedly do too, but I don't think the American "attention span" is the reason soccer isn't big over here. Heck, for crying out loud, we wouldn't love baseball if that was the case. It's simply just a cultural thing. Football became one of our pastimes before soccer did.
@@matthewponton5632I have lived in the US for nearly 20 years. And fair enough. You make a lot of sense. Only thing I would add is even though baseball is relatively slow. Keep up Trig.
Carabao cup will probably have to go, to ease the pressure on the fixture list
For some of the top clubs it already has and simply serves for them to give their squad players and youngster a run out.....
Which would yet again screw over the smaller clubs…
I always wanted to have an expanded and a proper club world cup, becaise I want to see competition form teams all over the world competing with european teams. However, 32-Teams is too much.
My idea would be to have a 16-Team Club World Cup, that is played every two years, which would be in the odd years, while the even years, either World Cup is played, or euros and copa america is played.
put all your youths and squads to play as experience
Players are already overwhelmed and they want to add more games?🤨
Oh well they are simply commodities it seems🚶♂️
Shocking.
Is that a step? It's more like a giant leap for FIFA Bank.
Players can handle it,teams now need to sign more players at a certain time, humans are always resistant to change. Yeah it's about money, but on the other side of the coin ,it's about exposing talents that would have never been discovered. The population is growing
the big teams will sign all the best plyers and the be no domestic competition
UEFA Conference League qualifiers, UEFA Super Cup with Charity Shield and preseason tours at the same time, then a full season with a new 32 team Club World Cup in the mix somewhere, domestic cup competitions crammed in midweek alongside Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference games, AFCON every other January mid-season, bi-monthly international breaks in the season to fit in the Nations League and qualifying games, and then every other year having a summer World Cup or Euros in the close season.

So then they would be able to compete for players on transfer and wages against the PL clubs and PSG.

Football is not gonna be the number one sport in North America (excluding Mexico). And it’s def not number one at university level, idk where Simon got that info from
Lol yeah that was wild for them to say. Football will definitely reach top three sports within the next decade, but I can't imagine it surpassing the NFL or NBA. They're just too ingrained into American culture. The NFL literally makes more revenue than the Premier League. It has a chokehold over the U.S. market. And American Football in college is a religion to people. Soccer will never surpass that.
If that's the case, I think teams from elite European leagues should treat the Club World Cup like America treats Olymic Basketball. Send the reserves and academy prospects. You know you're the best in the world, why bother.
That's a completely different scenario. Not just basketball but many other sports associations don't recognise Olympic in their event calendars, it's not US decision but basketball association decision

There's no chance that football/soccer overtakes any of the 4 main sports in North America, or at least the United States and Canada, any time soon. Even though it's becoming more popular, it still lags behind football, baseball, basketball, and hockey. Participation in soccer is often quite high by little kids, but once they get older, they often migrate to the other 4 sports. Maybe soccer will eventually become the most popular sport here, but it isn't going to happen in the short to medium term.
Well ofc it won't. Those sports are already established and football ⚽ has only really just started getting the respect it deserves rather than be called a sport for girls or men less than others lol. However as time goes on if the appropriate organisation(s) in charge handle the sport and implement regulations well it will surely grow and become another big sport in the next half century at the quickest rate. Building a super sport is a looooong term project.
It won’t be so bad if you play younger players who deserve a chance but that won’t happen
Too much of any product devalues the value of said product. Teams will prioritise the competitions that are the most financially rewarding. Squads will have to become larger.
I love it. Whether it's about money or not, when would you get a chance to watch Kaiser Chiefs against Bayern Munic
😀😀😀
😂😂
Im African, and i dont want to watch that nonsense! I want to watch Premier League and Champions league
i do agree with the need of increase of numbers of clubs in World Cup of Clubs, but 16 is enough like the winner of each champions league in every continent and the second place THATS IT not 32-34 teams
europe, africa, asia, north america south america, oceania[not a continent but],thats it unless antartica fc want a go, SIX CHAMPIONS of each continent thats all it needs
The new world cup format has more teams but the route to the final is still only 7 games tbf
Nope, fifa is considering going back to 4 team group for 2026
@@brar1320 I never said it was happening, I was just correcting what was said in the video
It's all about.. money..
Question:
How many games can a team play in one season? Meaning how many do they play?
PL= 38 games.
FA Cup= how many total games if you win it all? 7 games
League Cup= how many total games if you win it all? 7 games
CL= bracket play= 6 games min. to win it all 13 games including the bracket.
So, I have it at 65 games if your team wins them all and goes all the way.
The NHL plays an 82 games season....sorry but no way is soccer harder on you than hockey. Plus HNL plays playoffs. 16 games more too win it all.
Teams that are on top don't want anymore games, but too bad.
Its the same issue we had 1 year ago when they tried to capture the top teams.. Its in FIFAs interest to drop the leagues that dont give them revenue for a league like this that they own and control.. And now its in ours to create a noncorrupt FIFA..
spot on
