This is a great idea. This is actually turning the current club world cup into a much more competitive and serious format. Having the title and trophy of best club in the world should mean something. A group stage would mean that Real Madrid wouldn't have to be automatically awarded a semi final place. The idea of a competitive international club format is also a way of getting more money out of the club world cup potential that it really should be. More money for clubs around the world. It's not like the top 6 teams don't have an enlarged and rotated squad to compete in multiple competitions.

@@neilg6675 the world cup has been great
The problem was the fear mongering before hand which made fans afraid to travel
Only the first few games struggled for attendance and a few more in group stage . The rest have been full maybe bar 1 or 2 more in group stage.
Plenty of goals, Theres been 163 goals. Expected to be around 168 when the tournament is concluded which is only 11 less than the highest ever. Football has been fine. A few under dogs and 2 of the 3 favourites have reached the final.
The group stage were the most exciting ever with groups being left undecided until the last match day with shocks
People who went have enjoyed it. It's been easy to get around and well organised. Fans have praised it as one of the best. Fan behaviour at an all time high as is health and safety
Accommodation for some has been an issue. Overpriced but the experience has been positive
Issue is the slave labour to build the stadiums. Should never have gone there but it's been organised well, but considering the money spent, it's to be expected.

@Mainly Everything the attendances have improved in the last few games, though in part due to fans being given tickets, Senegal fa gave their fans 15000 tickets for the England game. The referees have been a joke, var was pretty good in Russia and that convinced the world it was ready, no one would use var off the back of this wc. Fans chucked out of hotels, road signs for stadiums to no where, that's without mentioning all the human rights issues. I've watched more 0-0 draws than I've seen in my life, a few very high scoring games have given a false impression for goals scored.

All of them have cup games and some have 2 cups so all the same, and every continent have a ucl equivalent which for the most part follow the same format, this isn't about being from Europe or Asia or Africa or whatever this is about overworking players beyond what's reasonable. The only argument that can be used against Europe is the introduction of the nations league which let's be honest is being treated as a friendly competition and nothing more.

Clubs from undeveloped continents can attract lucrative sponsorship deals via this tournament and can also sell their players for huge sums of money when they perform on such a big stage
Uefa Champions League and Copa Libertadores are not the only club competitions which need attention if FIFA wants to develop football to the highest level on all continents

Ok, slowly, nearly there. It's all about money. And where does the money come from? It comes from more people watching more games. So when you say "it's all about money", your complaint is really about the governing body giving more people more of what they want to see. Why would you have a problem with that? Because you're one of those arrogant tossers that think that you should get to decide what's right for billions of others. How about letting other people decide whether they like it or not?

The answer to managing how many games players play with football expanding, is to allow clubs to have larger squads. The Champions League only permits what, 23 full pros and if they're injured the club has to fall back on their academy players despite generally having a squad of 30 odd senior pros. Larger squads could also go part of the way to reducing player power and their super-agents getting them extortionate contracts. They shouldn't be paid 2 million per week and getting hundreds of millions as a sign on bonus. If they're passionate about the game and want to establish themselves high up in the legends list, it should be for pride and success, not obscene amounts of money. They'll still get far more money than the average person which I don't mind too much but it's gone way to far.

To be fair, In the past, I saw Boca Juniors demolish Milan (2003), Vasco Da Gama demolish Manchester United (2000), São Paulo beat the crap of Barcelona and Milan (92 and 93), sometimes the South America side, suffered but managed to beat the European side, like Corinthians beating Chelsea in 2012, São Paulo beating Liverpool in 2005, Internacional beating Ronaldinho's Barcelona in 2006 , and European side winning by referee mistakes (Palmeiras x Manchester in 99), or suffering but winning in the end (Vasco x Real Madrid in 98). In 2022, Chelsea struggled to beat Palmeiras, only winning in the prorogation after 1 x 1 in the match.
20 years old kids maybe has the illusion that Europe football were always all bells and whistles, but it's only recently (maybe last 20 years) that the balance was ruined between Europe and South America, probably because the European side wasn't allowed to have as many foreigners in the teams as they can today, so off course, the money the European clubs generate make easier for them to get all the best players from around the world, leaving the other leagues with only the leftovers.
A new 32 team Club World Cup is a good way to keep clubs from all around the world in touch. I believe that a Flamengo or Palmeiras can surprise the European side and do a surprisingly good competition. We'll see until then.
PS: The European side doesn't have an excuse to dismiss the new Club World Cup as they do with the actual iteration of the tournament, since there'll be 12 European Clubs, it's not much different than the Quarters of Final of a Champions League. I doubt a Real Madrid doesn't want to beat Barcelona, Bayern, Manchester City, Liverpool, PSG in the Club World Cup and be proclaimed the best club in the world, for example. Plus, I bet the Argentinean/Brazilian teams will surprise a lot of people and beat some of the European teams.

Football becoming the number one sport in the US in the near future is fanciful. NFL is easily the biggest sport and it's cultural impact is so far ahead it won't be matched for a long time. NFl preseason game rate higher than the NBA finals. It's bigger than every other sports in the US combined. Second is college football, then basketball. With the (lack of) attention span of most Americans and they way football is structured the best hope would be the 4th most popular sport in the next 10 years or so. Which isn't bad at all.
