Oh yeeeeezzz-z i can relate never been2 Zanzibar lived n Philly and Camden NJ and we start on Thursday nite til. Sunday 🌞,jus🕺🏽🕺💃💃 jamming.BIGFUN. . . "WORRDDDDDDDDD"*÷*
One time I went to the Zanzibar and tried the new Long Island ice tea.I said that was good give me another. All I remember was waking up,lights on,sun up 😂😂 Good times 😎😎
Back in the 80’s when I was a young Marine stationed at Camp Lejuene, NC, me and my homeboyz used to drive back to Newark every few weeks just to go to the Zanzibar, Club America, and Club 88. I remember driving up listening to WBLS and KISS FM getting me hyped up for the night. I remember that hypnotic beat had me on the dance floor dripping wet… man… those were fun times. I visited many clubs as I traveled around in those days but nothing could compare. Not techno, not reggae, not go-go. House music was the best!
yeah, same here, they play go go in DC area but it doesn't make you move like house music does....you got that right....NO other music compares to house....and never will....
I remember bringing mixtapes back from home after leave and playing them in the day room on my boom box. We would have cats coming from 3 floors coming down to our day room. Like it was mini Zanzibar.
When I was 16 I used to put mascara on my mustache to look older , was nervous in that long ass line , but when I got inside I wouldn't leave till 6, 7 o'clock in the mornin and people were still partying when I left . TRUTH
duster43 lol I believe it. Man I want born yet but I always heard about zanzibar. What led to it closing down and I was wondering did they ever had like a final party at zanzibar before closing
Jack King Man don’t know why it closed, but they probably had something. If they did I missed it but the Zanz was serious. The music put you in a trans it was crazy I miss that shit.
I'm I'm listen to Club Zanzibar right now the music is great I can still do some of the moves I'm up in age now but the music moves your soul in your body have from God loves you
Ah Club Zanzibar, I lived there on Friday nights/Saturday Mornings.. The cost back then was $15-$18(depending whom was performing) but, can you really put a price on that level of greatness? Bring Back the Ole Days"
LaKeisha Robinson Damn yo Lots of people don’t remember Brokers it wasn’t open for long but I used to hit that spot too. Big ups for remembering that . Lol
Hi. I'm from Detroit and I learned to be a house head from hanging with cuzins in Long Island the Bronx. Would come to visit just to go to Jersey to party. The first time i did we got off the train and people where on their way to work. Get back to Detroit family asked what i did and i would say got my house on what good fun🎶🎶🎶💃💃💃💃💃
Zanzibar was the shyt, HOWEVER, that time was a "perfect storm" for music especially in the NYC area. Garage, Loft, Red Parrot, Barnie Google's, LQ, Hotel Diplomat, Bentley's, Nell Gwynns, etc at that's just a few in Manhattan
This was one of the best times of my life and in the 80s getting dressed with my sisters and my cousins I'm going to the club and listening to house music stand up Newark New Jersey Zanzibar❤😊
Jersey....We had our own HOUSE sound!!! Movin' Records, Blaze, Jomanda, Adeva, Kerri, Tony, just to name a few!! THE BEST TIMES.................CLUB AMERICA.................
It didn't burn down it just that the marriage didn't want it there no more and they wanted to bring in the pack which bring in more money it's all about the dollar bill
Check your history son, the cat you call the godfather of house, is from NY, came up under Larry Levan and others. The reason he got the job in chi was because Larry and others were already booked in NY. Now Frankie gets his props, no doubt. But it's not like he existed in a vacuum.
Tell me if they have this kind of music out now it was a time when we went out to dance if you meet somebody you meet somebody but sometimes you just go out to dance have a good time and go on back home
I remember when Sharon Redd performed on New Years Eve.....She cranked champagne from her shoe. Those were the good ole days. Brick City Stand Up. Jersery Girl 4ever
Essex County definitely on the map in every aspect!!! Believe that... don’t forget the Pep!!! Peppmint Lounge... On Ernie Howard Blvd.. My uncle rip... he als owned the Zanzibar
Blacks we are one proud nation but we never show or act like it stop being undivided and be as one stop being jealous of the next couple please living in the lastdayz let's do it right and keep the peace unity between blacks bro and queens
Yo I agree with you on that and for ever and ever and always that's what I'm talking about bring the old school good old days because music like this was the shit back in the days and I'm talking about house music and the real hip hop music back in the days and that's the 80's for ever and ever and always feel me and that's word to my family and friends that made God bless their souls that they rest in peace and I say word up doc peace. November 26 2017.
Yes. Listen to a lot of your tapes. Zanzibar in the 80s . Don't know how you missed Dirty Talk, Zipping up my Boots and that song by the B52s Mespatainia.
Don’t tell my mom I used to stay at my best friends house and we would go to the Zanz in High School and they let us in. Lol I seen a lot of things in there but I have been a club head ever since. My step sister and I would go out every Thursday to Sunday. I’m in the South now and I listen to nothing but club in my car with it banging. If you can be still and listen to club then somethings wrong with you!
😂 I use to tell my mom the samething when I was in Junior high school going to Sensations bc Zanzibar security recognized my fake ID..I was in VLD bak then. Sneaking in da house at 6am bc the 24 Bus stop running. My lil a** coming in the house when she was leaving out for work. 🤦🏽♀️🙄. She had a plan for my a** Sent me up in the mountains to Borden School for 4yrs. 😭😂 Didn't understand it then but appreciated later in life! Big Facts!!😊
You see..with Me being a 80's Kid,it might have been WILD out there, but even back then the Gangstas,Thugs and Drug Hustlers use to get Down on the Floor, and would be TOO Tired to bring the Drama, when it came to a Party back then..and if did..They would Save that Mess for OUTSIDE when it was Necessary!!!!!!
Here is one of my NYC stories. Drove up with some people I can’t even tell you who they were today. I went into the house party and it was huge and off the chain. The people and environment was fantastic. Most of all the music and dancing areas were packed. I came in ready to party are the drive and just started partying. Didn’t stop dancing literally for over an hour. When the music said “ WBLS in New York live from the Garage” The crowd went off danced even harder. It was the fu@king radio😱People thinking a DJ was somewhere in the party. The fu@king radio. Frankie Crockett. This is where the saying “ you just had to had been there” comes to mind. What the kids say now? No 🧢.😂 Those were the days my friend. We thought they would never end. We would sing and dance forever in a day. Life is fantastic. I live to tell about.
We used to go to Zanzibar at night and the sun would be shining when we leave!! Those were the days.
How did anyone who stayed at the Lincoln Hotel ever get any sleep? The bass shook the entire building.
Oh yeeeeezzz-z i can relate never been2 Zanzibar lived n Philly and Camden NJ and we start on Thursday nite til. Sunday 🌞,jus🕺🏽🕺💃💃 jamming.BIGFUN. . . "WORRDDDDDDDDD"*÷*
