    A quad network port card is another good idea to run from that x1 slot, there is a smaller version of that riser that takes power from a berg connector, also runs the signal through USB 3 cable.

    Also morten, if you wanna drive the gpu more than just for video, i recommend getting EPS connector (one for cpu) from the external psu, and soldering thinkcentre power plug to it. EPS has more than enough power for it and if i'm not mistaken thinkcentre takes 12V. That way you're not running two psu's

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  2 года назад

      The thinkcentre uses 19-20v,,, so not directly compatible,, but could steep up the 12volt.

    Cables proprietary, Look like you have 3 alternatives,
    1.mini usb right angle extension, pin1 to pin 1 etc. Some in car GPS use them.
    2. Map the pins and create your own.
    3. Use a m-pcie extension and move the adaptor and use the original cable.
    I've messed around with a few thin clients, Tring to fit cards into a small space where they weren't ment to go.
    I'm waiting for a mini usb breakout board to arrive, will post the cables lay out shortly.
    Hope this helps

    The is a major issue with lenovo and AMD CPU, they enable by default the AMD PSB locking feature which is increasing e-waste because the MB fails way before the CPU.

    Hi Morten, Cool Project, I like that Ninja Hack. I have a Lenovo like that. It has a Quad Core i5 Processor and 8Gig of RAM. But it only has a 256MB GPU, with VGA out. That made it slow on RUclips. But it did work. It was my main Computer for 4 or 5 years. I wanted to add a GPU to it. But it only has standard PCI Slots. I even looked at PCI Video Cards. But, they were so old, they were expensive. I thought about, adding an external GPU. Like you did in the video. But, it got too expensive for me. That was 2 to 4 years ago. Now, since I got my HP DL380 G7 Server, 2 or 3 years ago. And added an 8GB Video Card to it. I rarely use the Lenovo. Fun Video... Don

    Antenna hole? Looks like a Kensington lock to me. (Edit: I’m wrong, read replies) I love playing with my old HP USDT 8300 PCs. They are a bit bigger. The CD/DVD player can be swapped for a cheap Aliexpress HDD caddy, so you can fit 2 2,5 inch SATA SSDs in it.
    USB 3 is using 6 extra pins + the standard 4 USB 2 pins. It does makes sense that you need all 10 connections in this cable.

    I don't think your original cable is a USB cable: I think it's a 2x2 data cable. From what I could make out on the video, the cable is a mini USB to USB A. A cable like this intended for USB would be configured 2 wires for power (straight wired) and 2 for data (twisted, shielded). For PCIe you'd need two data pairs. USB2 vs USB3 shouldn't matter if that really was a mini-USB connector, since they only have 5 pins rather than USB3's 9.

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  2 года назад

      Well I have run in to, that there is not many mini USB 3.0 cables with a 90 degree angle..

    • @F4HDK
      @F4HDK 2 года назад

      PCIe x1 needs 3 high speed pairs : TX, RX, Clock (not only 2). This PCI-e riser/extender works with USB3 cables, no doublt about it. It uses the very rare USB 3.0 mini-B connector, with 9 wires (instead of 4 o' 5 for USB2).

    I had an idea about the fancy cable and you might not like it but I feel I had to share. Did the fancy cable come from China by any chance? It's just that I recently bought a couple of things from China and they didn't function AT ALL. Now it could happen when you buy things from almost anywhere I suppose but both of my things were from China and to be fair I didn't feel so bad about it as they only cost about a pound. Only they didn't work AT ALL! I guess you could test the fancy cable in another application and see if it can still charge a phone or something. Anyway hope you won't shoot the piano player... it's just a theory. Probably better if it's USB 3 anyway because of the colour blue. ☺

    Dont use this setup (pcie x16 riser to mini pcie 1x) with p106-100 or p104-100 mining cards for gaming.
    If possible just use m.2 wifi or regular pcie 1x slot.
    Those cards are working fine with patched nvidia driver but heavily bottlenecked by the mini pcie 1x (pcie 1.1) bandwith.
    This issue occured due to large data traffic between cpu and gpu that should be processed, plus gpu output that should be displayed through motherboard's hdmi/DP.

Unlike M.2, express card, mPCIe and USB-C Thunderbolt ports/slots, USB port does not carry PCIe signals so cannot be used for an eGPU. Just watch how you say it, it might lead to confusion.
