It's funny, isn't it??? I mean, all teams in at least all of the first leagues of European football have teams comprised of international players. Man City has been the by far the most dominant team in England for the last 5-10 years. Why on earth aren't they calling themselves world champs? Because they're not fucking ignorant.. hahaha. Then, all the continental winners will compete between themselves for the club world cup. They could do the same in basketball.
Manchester City won the EPL (English Premier League) but they dont have a banner saying World Champions, even though the team is made up of intetnational players. They also won the CL (Champions League) but again they were crowned “champions of Europe”because they beat other “European” teams. Chelsea won the CL, then won the World Club Championships (CWC) and were rightly crowned “World Champions”because they beat international teams to win that competition. The Premier League is arguably the best league in the world, others would argue La Liga (Spain), Bundersliga (Germany), Seria A (Italy) but none of those leagues crown their winners “World Champions”! They are domestic champions despite having the best players in the world. Lionel Messi (formerly played for Barcelons) Cristiano Ronaldo (formerly of Manchester Utd, Real Madrid and Juventus) are Balon D’or winners (World’s best player) but that doesnt make the teams they played for World Champions because they also play for “countries” at the FIFA World Cup which is a global competition where the winners are crowned World Champions!!! Lionel Messi won the World Cup with Argentina and now plays for Inter Miami in the MLS in the US. If Inter Miami wins the MLS they are not World Champions because they do not compete in the CL or CWC. Messi actually won the CWC with Barcelona but they had to win their domestic league, then the champions league before they could compete in the club world championship (CWC)

When I heard about someone matching Usain Bolt’s accomplishments now and potentially into the future, I was a bit dismayed to hear It was an American. That may be a little racist, but Usain Bolt was equally a treasure for his accomplishments as well for his Jamaican charm. The data suggests that they are the best players in the world. There is a massive correlation between fiba success and quantity and quality of NBA players. Also, US teams hold exhibitions against other national teams all the time and the record is heavily biased towards the NBA teams.
If these USA team is to compete in an international event, some of their players would return to the country from which they came.

Yes Noah Lyles was right, there was never existing in basketball for every winners in their respective country to play and winner can be declared world champ. Like in Rugby League, NRL(Australia) and Super League (England) the two winners from their respective leagues played an off season game to determine the world champ. That concept does not exist in world of basketball. The American team go on a world tour to exhibition matches but not world championship challenges. NBA and other American sporting bodies must refrain from using that misleading term (World champion) when in actuality it is only a national title.

If any American basketball player wants to be World Champion then he must join the USA national team and win the FIBA World Championship. That's it.
In other sports like Football(the one Americans call Soccer), there's a WorldCup(for Nations to win)... But there's also a Champions league(for clubs). Every continent has a Champions league for their own that each country's league winner & runner-up participate in. Winners of every every continent's Champions league participates in another tournament called world's champions league. Then winner of that would be world's champion...

You see, there are separate certified world championships held regularly, that are indeed that: World Championships. Olympics are held every 4 years, but it differs with World championships. The FIBA basketball World Cup is every 4 years and same goes for the FIFA Football World Cup. World athletics championships are held every 2 years.
Olympics and world championship events are separate hence separate titles. Olympic gold medalists and World championship gold medalists are different titles. The latter has the title World champion, the former could be considered the best but not necessarily an official World champion.

In short: The NBA is the strongest domestic league in the world and the team that wins it can confidently call themselves the strongest club team in the world. But both the World Championship and the Olympic Championship are played out between NATIONAL teams and not clubs as in virtually any other team sport.
this means the current NBA champ and so best club team in the world are the Denver Nuggets, the current World Champion that was just determined last Sunday are the German national team and the current Olympic champion are the US national team around e.g. KD that won the corresponding 2020 tournament in Tokyo.
No, the Nuggets would be the best club team in the world if it competed in lets say a small tournament with the champions of other domestic leagues around the world. They started billing and advertizing the NBA chapionship series as the World championship series back in the day (1950) when there were literally no other basketball leagues in the world worth mentioning. Then they transitioned into simply calling it the NBA Finals in TV ads since then, but have kept the tag "World Champions."

The thing is, will they actually let them build up chemistry or will they bring a totally different squad for the Olympics next year? Because every other country in the world has more or less the same players in every international competition. The same team that plays in the World Cup also plays in the EuroBasket or other continental Championship and then also plays in the Olympics. A world Championship produces a world champion, an Olympics produces an Olympic champion (which is an international competition as well) and a national championship (like the NBA) produces a national champion. And all these are regardless of who plays in the competition and how strong the competition is.

The only reason we say that NBA teams are not world champions is because they did not participate in an international tournament, only national. I believe that they could easily beat every inheritance team on the planet, but they have not competed for a world title, only a national title

They have the opportunity to represent USA in FIBA basketball World Cup and yet they turned it down, thinking that NBA and local games are much more important.
That is just as unpatriotic as it gets. There is no bigger honour in this world other than donning the national shirt and representing the country in international competitions. They have no right to call themselves patriotic when they refused to wear national shirt nor representing their country in international tournaments.

There's already the FIBA Basketball World Cup which determines the "world champions" in basketball for years now, lol! I don't know if you've heard the news but Germany just won the championship of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 held in Manila, Philippines the other day. Germany defeated Serbia in the finals so Germany is now the reigning "world champions" in basketball. Team USA only placed 4th after losing to Canada in a bronze medal match! FIBA is the world governing body for basketball just like FIFA for football.

UEFA champions league are not world champions because it's the best clubs in Europe (no other continent). Even then Europe also has other competition like UEFA cup and Conferance League. At the start of each year the Champions League winner and the Uefa cup winner play a single SUPER CUP game. Sometimes the champions league winner loses in that game. And even then it's only Europe. So no, an nba team playing against the champions of Canada, Mexico, Guatemala and Haiti still won't make them world champions if they win that
It's not different from reality actually. There's not another basketball team in the rest of the world who can beat an average NBA team. But it would be fun to make a world champions tournament too.
Well, I'm not sure I agree with that statement. There are teams in European basketball that are comprised of some of the best players from around the world. Just like football teams like Man City etc. have players from around the world.
