It really is disheartening to see social medias and shop websites treat artists like nothing these past few years. I'm wishing you the best in your shop!! Keep it up!
Trust me when I say, I’ve made tons of different designs that didn’t end up good enough for my shop. It’s part of the process. I have a bucket full of prototypes that weren’t good enough for my shop. The thing I did though, I picked one thing I really enjoyed making, that happened to be bears. So I worked and worked on my bear designs and they evolved so much. So just keep at it and the designs you do will grow and grow.
Etsy hasn’t helped me at all. Even bringing in traffic. I’ve made 11 sales since 2020. I barely get views. So honestly I want my own website but I don’t have an audience.

Yeah, I heard a lot of horror stories about Etsy. Unfortunately it's no longer what it used to be. I am also trying to start up a small art business and it's definitely a struggle starting from the ground up. But your video is very inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story.

Hi thank you sm for the suggestion! I love your charms! So I had the same issue at first with the clay I got being too soft (I also live in a hot climate) but what worked for me was leaching some of the oil out of the clay. I did this by flattening clay between sheets of paper and pressing them for an hour or so in a large book, the paper soaks up the extra oil. If the clay ended up too hard or brittle I would kneed it with a small amount of soft clay till I got the firmness I was looking for. I almost gave up on polymer clay before I figured this method out

@@amysocool7 hi, I think the most important thing is to be patient because success rarely comes instantly and the worst thing you can do for your chances of success is to get demoralised and give up! As long as you keeping creating art and posting, all it takes is one post to go viral and then the orders will come, it’s normal to feel sad but try not to dwell in that sadness 💜
Honestly I was so excited to visit your webpage to purchase a key chain but I got turned away due to the price. I believe that the price should be reconsidered. The price plus shipping fees is expensive especially when the art doesn’t really have a story background behind it. Please don’t get to upset about me saying this. I do believe if you lower the prices or build up the characters more then your business will succeed. Who knows, I might reconsider supporting you one day.
@@kikibeixi2216 Hi, one thing I’ve learnt over the years is to simply not care about someone saying my “art is too expensive” or your “prices are too high” and it’s advice I give to all small businesses and artists who are starting out. There will *always* be a handful of people who don’t get it and complain about commission and art prices. My shipping price is enough to cover international shipping costs and my handmade keychains are very fairly priced according to the work I put into them. I believe in myself, my intention is to reach the right audience who believe it’s worth it too and not to immediately sell everything for as cheap as possible. With time, those who understand my characters and their stories will come. Meanwhile, for those who genuinely like to support small businesses, there are other more affordable items such as stickers and prints available to explore. If you see an artists’ products and think it’s correct and right to tell them to lower their prices and shipping for you or they won’t succeed then it’s safe to say I don’t think my art is for you at all, which is cool but it is definitely for someone! if you want to, you can tune in to my next video to see if i failed to get any orders because my prices are “too expensive” but if not, thanks for dropping by :)👋🏾💜
The artist doesn't owe you affordability. The price is the price. Adjusting it down only ends up in a race to the bottom. Because the next person may say the same thing and she loses out on covering her overheads and making a profit. Shipping is expensive no matter where you are and it's not set by her. The entitlement you feel to say for her not to be upset because you know what you're saying is BS. You don't know what backstory her characters have, it may still be being worked on how to communicate that in her branding etc... you can either save up or don't buy. Your purchase or lack thereof isn't going to make or break her business. You are obviously not her customer.

You have to consider the time spent making the item. It is not just about material cost. If they were cheaper she would probably be making a loss.
