Such beautiful colors!! I would love to learn to dye linen using plants. I’m in the tropics and will experiment with the plants here.

Thank you! You should definitely give it a go, it's such a fun experimental project!

I would totally purchase an online course from you on how to naturally dye linen. Which mordant is best, how to clean up/dispose of the liquid, how long to submerge the fabric, etc. Basically, I know the words: mordant, plants, dye, etc. But that's about it!

That is great feedback to hear! I've been considering putting together an online course, but still playing around with topics and... well making the time for it! Stay tuned :)

Am experimenting again with dying fabric/yarns of wool, cotton, linen and mordanting. Collect oak galls and use acorn shells (after take out the acorn), onion skins..... Used to buy from FS but asked what coating they put on which fabrics and decided not for me. Wondered how their fabrics dye for you. Sagebrush trimming were amazing surprize on cotton. We have hard water here so that effects all results. Indigo pot is retired so maybe can use for painting with. Got an nice olive green with Carolina Geranium growing in yard and afterbath of iron. Wish I took better notes tho.

Oooooh you are experimenting with some cool things! Only ones of those I've tried is onion skins and acorns (loved both), and going to take a mental note about the others you mentioned! I was using the IL019 mix-natural softened from FS but they ran out of stock, so I actually just switched to a place called 3HLinen... I like theirs just as well! Both take the dye pretty well for me. Just curious if you're willing to share, did the FS coating trigger a skin sensitivity or was it more for eco reasons?

@@charliedarwintextiles had health issues and figured didnt need the silicone coating on fabric(if says softened she said, think some are washed tho) since dont know if it comes off and breath in or goes to other clothing during laundry... I need to concentrate on 1 or 2 dye pots, label jars/pots, take notes/pics. Most are solar, as better place to rinse out things and water plants at same time.

Beautiful! Almost 20 yrs ago I did some plant dying on my wool from my sheepies. ☺️ I’m retired from that life right now but an artist is always an artist, I just use a different medium…watercolor. You’re tempting me though!
Edit: can you recommend a not too 🤑🤑🤑 surger?

Yes! I have a refurbished Brother 1034DX (I think the 1034D is basically the same, at least idk the difference!)... and it works great. Do your research, but I think you can find good deals on refurbished or thrifted! Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other Qs about the one I have.
