The 17 & 18 are so fun this game, they truly feel like they say in the show infinite energy. Ki gauge is nothing to be worried about, just fight fight until you exhaust the enemy or in this case your friend if playing locally.
With Broly he doesn't flinch as much from attacks at the cost of his energy. When I broke his guard he was exhausted, and I kept him in a lock. If I stopped attacking him he would have recovered his energy after a few seconds.
