I am addicted to your channel and videos, man! After I discovered you, I have looked at restoration in a different way and now I have started on a bike project with my 5 year old daughter who is restoring her "new" bike with the help of your videos. We started last month, and it will be ready for her first school day in 2025. Her color theme is: purple frame, white forks, and black and gold details.
That awesome
Fantastic! This is one of the best paint jobs I've seen in your videos. The green looks amazing with the rest of the bike.
Great work. These older SID forks are so much lighter than the modern ones. Not quite as stiff but still plenty stiff for reasonable trail riding.
This is a video I've been searching ages for. Not much out there on rebuilding the 2000 era SID XC's. Well done,Rob, and thanks!
This military green is so cool!👍
Awsome restoration! And it really looks good with the alu finish of the trek frame ❤
I have a blue SID on my older son's bike which he has outgrown. I'll be restoring and painting soon to make the bike ready for my younger son. Perfect timing!
Awesome video! Thanks! The ASMR lets you hear the grit, sound like this fork was redone on the beach.
Hello sir....I have exactly the same RS and am planning to build my 95' Marin Pine Mountain with the 90's SID....You are an inspiration, thank you for that, sir....Greetings from Germany (Cologne)
The SID is great and works fine, the weight is a dream in comparison to todays modern forks. A wonderful bike, you created. Really fine artwork.
Reminds me of a 2006 ZR8500 I had. Fast, comfortable, beautiful, but over time I changed it for another hardtrail. Very good work!
I still have my Trek 6500 that I bought in 1994. I’ve switched out and upgraded components over the years but still have the originals, including the narrow (by today’s standards) handlebar. Those old, made in the USA, Treks are beautiful bikes with the smooth welds. The only thing mine needs is work on the clear coat that is flaking off. Maybe this summer. Nice work!
The fork looks awesome!
Gotta love the old rockshoxs Judy's xc we're my go too 😊
I have a couple of 2000 SID Race Titanium 28s that I'm running on my gravel bikes, they are super light and have just about the perfect travel. They have lockouts too, plus adjustable rebound, so can be dialed in for perfect response.
Great clean build yet with flashy but descret accents. That green corresponds really well with the raw aluminium, especially the fork - the depth of this british racing green is awesome + plus the silver decals 👌
Watching your videos make me want to rip a bike apart and rebuild it just for fun.
Cool rebuild I was able to find N.O.S SID lowers for my 01 Judy xc and it looks fits and rides great on my 1998 trek 950!
amazing restoration mate! greetings from Serbia
Great job and great colour composition. ¡Congrats!
That green is awesome!! I'd definitely get that color if they offered it. Great job again! Will you convert a v break to hydrologic disk again, those were the best
Pretty bike
Great video as always. A pleasure to spend my down time watching.
I must say the paint finish on the forks looks way better than the previous painting you have done. Whether it was achieved with a different product (clear coat) or improved skill (flatted and polished) well done.
I look forward to your next instalment. 👍
Eu gosto muito do seu trabalho, parece que você faz com amor.
IMHO, the best 26 Rockshox front forks are SID , Judy & Reba. Awesome video.
Gold Psylo's were sweet too
That Trek would look great with a 7000 series aluminum Thomson Elite stem, post, and their 7050 aluminum riser bars 😁🤘🤘
Back in the days this was the top of suspension that you could get ... so sad to see what Rock Shox is today . Just to see a SID already makes me smile ... those were good times and the memories that goes along with it is stuff that you just can't buy ! Well done mate ! That bike is only one thing missing ... a black chainring from Shogun ! That would be absolutly perfect !
What's the problem with Rockshox today? 😁
These "old man yells at cloud" comments pining for the sweet old days where suspension for proper MTBing was absolute garbage compared to even the entry level stuff from Rockshox today.
Fine line between nostalgia and delusion.
@@lenolenoleno at least I know what I'm talking about ...I'm in the bicycle business for decades ... nostalgia or not the entry level of Rock Shox was the Jett and those were way better made than a modern TK Silver 30 (and lighter too) . Today its just a label produkt owned by SRAM .
@@thomaseisen304
Cherry picking here - you're comparing a TK Silver 30 doesn't even match the price point of those forks.
Compare apples to apples: A Rockshox SID released in 1998 RRP'd for $700 USD, adjusted for inflation = $1,507.00 USD today. The MSRP for a 2024 SID Ultimate is 999 USD RRP.
You're telling me things were always "better in the old days" when a 2024 SID Ultimate is leagues and leagues better than a SID from "back in the day" whilst simultaneously being cheaper.
Hell a 2023 Marzocchi Z2 RRPs for 500USD (260 USD back in 1998) and would smash any single crown fork produced in 1998 regardless of budget.
(I'm also in the industry).
@@lenolenoleno I was not basicly talking about a SID in general , but the quality they have today . And on the other hand back in those days here the price for a Z2 Drop Off was around 450€ in our country ! Even today (depending were you get them ) a Z2 is new 460€ and an used Z2 is still sold at 160€ , so my point was not the general difference but the quality over all from back in those days and today . I had a Jett XC for over 15 years , no issues at all ! After that I rebuild it and sold it in mint condition (sure it hat some very small scratches in the paint) . Few years ago I bought a TK Silver 30 for a daily and was realy unhappy with it ...not only about the performance ! I tried over a year to get parts for it (harder coil/ air damper) no one had it , just one dealer in the US and you can imagin with the shipping cost to europe I just sold it and bought a different one .
That’s beautiful.
Turned put very nice!!
I remember watching the XC race for the Sydney Olympics and some racers had custom SIDney decals. I though it was the coolest thing ever lol
Would wonder if it is possible that you could do a segment on explaining which type of Mountain bike is able to use the updated rear cassettes of what speed cassette is able to use. As where for , example if you had a 1980s mountain bike, are you able to use a newer 12 speed on the rear or higher speed on it as well. And use a signal speed gear up front and the same thing as well for the early 90s.
On your ride I never saw the suspension move at all. Still a very chilled therapeutic watch though
What a beauty!
Some green anodized bits would definitely set this build off; stem cap, seatpost clamp, and if you can find a set, a Kooka crankset in green.😊
Agreed
genial, pero no colocaste las esponjas y no lleva grasa en los retenes???.... y en los resortes no lleva grasa ni aceite???...saludos y gran trabajo.
I'm still using XT 739 V-brake levers (2006), XT 760 V-brakes (2007), XT M770 HallowTek 2 crank (2008), XT 750 front dereailer (2009), XT M772 Shadow rear derailer (2009) , and XT M772 Rapid Fire plus shifters (2011)🤘🤘
As always great content. Any chance one day we will see a build of a early 90's Grisley?
Cutlery and broccoli colour theme 🥦🍴 take it out on the trails for some gravy ha ha
Hey, nice video, i bought same fork and will do a restoration and repaint. I'm curious from where did You get these cool SID decals?
Thanks as to the stickers I made them myself using a Cricut vinyl cutter
@@oldshovel but do you have a pattern for printing vinyls?
Agree, I too am looking for these decals. Still searching as I have the pattern to print.
Were do you get all the original decals for restoration
Well done🎉 Nice ride. I would go wider bars and shorter stem :)
Hey @oldshovel do you know what size the v brake mounts are? I think the thread is different between some of the brands...
I had this fork on my 99 Specialized Stumpjumper. Red fork on black frame... I thought I was so fast!
I haven't watched your channel for some time; I'm going to start watching again 👍👍. How old are these Rock Shox Sid XCs? I had a pair of Judy XCs I bought way....back....in 2000 that I paid 💰471.00 for. I'm wondering if they could have been restored.
Great video. I have a 2003 SID with pitted stanchions.. what's your advice in repairing/resto-modding these, aside from hanging it on a wall? It's an awesome fork, with a carbon steerer and crown.
Yo oldshovel
Ever heard of paint stripper?
It does a really good job at removing the paint
wondering if judy sl from 97 is similar to this, ie if they are elastomer or not.
Thanks for the video, and this is pretty much the RockShox refurb that I’ve been looking for since forever. I got a 1998 Specialized Stumpjumper that I’ve owned since new, and it has a 2000 RockShox Dual Air SID forks that I’m going to rebuild. But I’ve had a time trying to find decent info on what to do until now. My question is - What do you use for lube instead of Redrum? I’ve seen conflicting answers that’s been holding me up. I’ve rebuilt old Bendix Kickback hubs, Sturmey-Archer, New Departure and even Dura-Ace, so I can do the job - I just want to do it right on the first pass. Let me know what you think. And thanks for everything. 🙂
I like your hip pack with the shoulder strap. Who made it?
Any chance you can share where to get the rebuild kit and rebuild instructions? I have a 2000 Stumpjumper FSR XC Pro with the same shock that I like to rebuild. Any guidance would be great. Thank you.
Are these mostly made from 7050 aluminum?
Great job, the frame is so beautiful yet it really needed a better suspension, and those SID are really nice (I have a blue one!) If it's not too much to ask, how much did the final bike weigh? Happy holidays.
I have about the same fork on my wife's bike, a 2000ish Sid with 1300 grams of weight 😳 I don't have the exact model nr, the stickers say Dual Air SL. However it's stiffer than needed, I think it could use at least an adjustment to the air pressure (lower) but while I'm at it, surely wouldn't hurt a general cleaning on the inside as well. Do you have a list somewhere of all the tools needed for the job? Thanks.
Love your channel . Have you any GT frames for sale alloy my gt avalanche got stolen hmm😢😢 have you a frame to sell❤
Ihave the same in my bike Trek 8500
I❤
That SID is probably from 2009. It looks exactly like the one included in a Specialized S-Works of that year.
Its 2000
Oops I forgot to mention that the paint is flaking off in pretty big chunks to expose the raw metal. Any primer recommendations? Zinc chromate?
Nice forks but flex a lot as only 28mm stantions
This colour called postman
bel lavoro e bella forcella, ma hai rovinato tutto montandola su quella Trek... Su quella bici dovevi lasciare la Judy...
Cringy painting.
Did you make the graphics or purchase them I wonder..I need clear ones for a Klein restomod.
