    I have to also say that it is really encouraging that you are happy going the speed limit. Everyone I’ve ever ridden with has always wanted to haul ass and I’m just not comfortable going faster than my brain can register what’s going on around me. I recommend your channel to every rider I know my friend!🤘🤘🤘🤘❤️🏍🏍🏍

      Thanks for sharing your view. My advice to you would be either to change "friends" or tell them to lay off the peer pressure. You should never go faster than you feel comfortable with. When I put friends inside brackets, it was with purpose. Your real friends would not push you to do shit that might get you killed. That easy. So if they won´t listen, get new friends. Where do you live, mate? Also, I want to applaud you for following Dan, he really teaches a lot of useful stuff - and it´s free too!! I would like you to get an advanced riders course, though - it is fun, and you seem to be susceptible to some new intel and some new moves. It is fun and educational, so just go. You will be so much more confident afterwards. Have a beautiful ride, dude!

    Drove in the mountains, on a rainy day, driving the speed limit and the A-holes in the cars and trucks behind me tailgating and wanting to pass in the no passing zones.

      So, pull over let them go,
      I just pick a safe spot with no oncoming, signal pull over and slow down, and let them go. Much less concern for me when they are in front.

      My 2001 yamaha vstar 650 doesnt like stopping without stalling when going uphill. Even if I'm in 1st gear it stalls every time. Is that normal?

    Lovely ride, Dan!! If I ever come to the US for a bike vacation, I will hit you up for some awesome rides. I love how you just enjoy the ride and won´t push the limits on every corner. We can enjoy the ride so much more on a bike than in a car - even a convertible. I just love it!!!

    Been watching yours and Motojitsu's videos since i started my biking journey in January, and they've been an absolute gift so I'd like to thank you for this. Specifically for the actual speed and gearing recommendations for taking downhill turns. I guess confirmation of 20 to 30 mph is just what I've been looking. Very reassuring. Great work, man.

    Haven't watched anyone explain things so perfectly. As a new rider Dan really gave me the confidence i needed to ride and glad to say i haven't crashed. But how many times does my man say "too fast" in the beginning? lol I love it!

    It’s a lot of pressure when there’s like 10 cars behind you and you’re the one holding the line, but I totally forget that the parking pullout. I’m glad this guy exist and also the pull offs lmao thank you sir Dan!

    I just did a mountainpass again i had done last year. I was really scared and did do a lot of things wrong then. Today was perfectly fine! I was a bit slower in the hairpin curves, but was completly in control 😁 Great video thank you!

    I really enjoy your My Lemmon videos. I lived in Tucson in the early 80s as a rider and U of A student and rode the mountain many times, sweet memories. I had the chance to ride it again a couple years ago and it was wonderful. I do remember the many accidents that occurred there also. The road was much better back then though. All the roads in SE Tucson were better maintained then as well, now most are nearly like riding off road. Have to come back again soon.

    Love the views! When I rode my new (to me) bike home just under a month ago it was a 2.5 hour ride through lots of trees (shaded areas), curves and inclines/declines. It was such a great ride. Would love to go up/down a mountain some day too.

    @DANDANTHEFIREMAN You need to come east and ride the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway. Combined it's 572 miles of riding in the Appalachian Mountains.

    Great video! I also used to live in Tuscon, but I was too young to have a driver's license. Still remember going up Mt. Lemon many times in the family car, and sometimes more recently on family visits.
    Gotta say, though, if I'm being totally honest, I totally lost it at 20:41.

    i am a new rider and I am concerned with going to my grandparent's summer house. They live on steep hills with lots of curves. I have been watching your videos and I have learned a lot from them. If you could do a video on riding up and down steep hills that would be awesome. Other than that, keep up the great videos.

    Plan on riding a little over a thousand miles to the mountains in east Tennessee to visit my mom..those mountains are a whole lot steeper tho than this..and you can pick up speed extremely fast going downhill. I use to live there for years but I didn't ride bikes back than. I'm sure I'll be fine. I know I like to ride too fast I'll just have to make sure I use restrain and not act like a fool.

    What a beautiful ride. Where is Mt Lemmon?
    When the view is spectacular, remember you will go where you are looking.
    I read or see on the Internet, how I ride a road like this, particularly down hill, is incorrect, I hardly ever touch the brakes, I like to select a gear, use the throttle and let the engine do the work, guess it’s cause I drive a standard.
    I find it works.

    This road looks phenomenal. Only thing I don't get is why it's limited to 35 mph there. In Switzerland, we have way twistier roads and these are mostly rated 50 mph (80 km/h) 🙂

    I prefer lane pos 1 myself because all the oil that drips out of trucks and cars stay in lane pos 2, so I ride on pos 1 because that's where cars' and trucks' tires ride.

    Nice video, useful tips.. but the real downhill challenge comes with hairpin bends, would like to see some tips on that. Engine braking may not be enough on a steep,hairpin, certainly not on a bike that weights close to 800lbs. So the big question… do you use the brake in that situation, and how? It may require a leap of faith but I’ve seen other vids which advocate using the front brake with a constant slight pressure, smoothly and gradually increasing the pressure to make the turn. Normally I’d only brake before the bend and rely on the engine braking through it, but on some tight snaking mountain roads in the Alps, and even here in Wales, I don’t think you’d make it round without some front brake to further moderate your speed. I’ve heard people talk about trailing the rear brake but that sounds hazardous, with all the weight down on the front on a steep gradient you’re liable to lock up the rear wheel doing that.

    "stick to the recommendation" sounds for me funny. I life in Austria, on a road outside of the city we only have a speed limit of 100km/h (62mph). there are no recommendations for a turn ^^

    I usually lower my gear, have higher RPM and heavily use engine-breaking when going downhill.
    also: omg, those are some beautiful views. I should take my wife someday for something like that in Europe.

    Jealous or your nice roads, but just an observation and how I would do the pulling over into the parking spot (19:20 min mark). And again, I guess we all have our way of doing this, but first of all I noticed that upon the approach to the pull-off that we could see the SUV parked in the area, which indicates to me that I would be pulling out from THAT spot as I can see all the way ‘down the road’. Yes, you did point out that you looked at corners about 1/2 mile back and then waiting and not seeing any traffic now assuming it was clear. So personally I would pull over at the beginning of the pull-out as I can see further back down the road when pulling out, and also, that I would have a bit of the large open space in the parking lot to get up to speed. My opinion and in my view a safer way . . . but I’m sure there are reasons that you like to go to the end. Cheers.

    You were not using the width of the lane to open up the corner and provide the best view around the corner, and were turning in way before the appex which tends to then push the bike wide in the exit. I was taught to get out to either the edge of the lane or close to the center line and turn in when you could see the center line or the fog line, (depending on it being a left or right hander). Using the environment to assess the tightness of the bends and therefore the appropriate entry speeds. I don't know about the US but here the number of arrows making up the chevron sign indicates how tight the bends are, once you get to 4 chevrons you definitely need to be rolling off, but advisory speed limits are usually over cautious, having been set using Morris Oxfords in the 1950s.

    Dude! Is that Arizona? That’s not at all what I see in my imagination.
    At this point I would be driving so slow on my CB1100. I’m not quite as confident on this new bike. The center of gravity is so much different than my old cruiser, and much much faster!

    I’ve just started riding. Passes my MSF beginner rider course and have had my full license for a few weeks so totally new to riding. I still do not fully comprehend how to control speed when on a steep downhill portion of a mountain like this. I understand slowing with brakes for a corner but even on a straight portion of road on a downhill I feel I am picking up way to much speed essentially “coasting” down hill no throttle at all. Should I be down shifting more to engine brake more or riding the brakes?

      You probably know more by now, but please don’t ride your breaks down a mountain, even in a car. Your breaks can easily heat up and cause break damage that at best can lead to a shorter break life and at worse cause damage and failure. Cruise in a lower gear so you can engine brake

    Just came back from a short first mountain twistie. Uh, not all bikes slows by easing off the throttle when you're going downhills. Had a holy shit moment. I had to use a lot of brakes. Good thing the part wasn't very long. Anyways, thanks for the video. Haven't seen you and Nikki ride in a while, are you guys still riding?

    Having trouble with height pressure? The best way is to close your nostrils like when you're blowing your nose and the air pressure inside your ears will equalize.

    That is a twisted mountain road? This road is incredibly straight, wide and safe. It doesn't even have a big incline. I don't see how it's different from any other road.
    You must come to Europe some day and see what a real mountain road is. Now, with those, you really need some good skills to traverse.

    Maximize your visual depth when going through the blind turns. You are wrong when you are telling people there is no need to do out-in-out when going through the turns.

      Not a need. It's just one tool in the toolbox. If out in out is good for vision, then do it. But that line selection isn't the default

    How do you aproceh a hair tight bend going down hill?

      Simple, Don’t ride at the limit, keep something in reserve.
      slow down, keep your eyes well ahead, you will see the signs, slow down early get your speed right before you get there,
      It way easier to speed up again if you are going to slow than it is to slow down if you are going to fast.
      I get it a bit wrong sometimes, Practicing counter steering (Copying DDFM) came in handy, I didn’t crash. Not this time.

    Riding 35mph at clean road at 20°C... This isnt nowhere near any risk. Only falling asleep and diving from cliff

    Come to india, you will face the most hairpin bends with least 50-60% incline/decline

    As in the UK the speed limits where invented and put on in the 70's where we didnt have great tech or brakes. They are seriously out dated but also been kept the same over the years to compensate for the majority of people with less skill and stupid people. That road in the mountains with little traffic and todays vehicles could easily be a 50 zone. In the uk that would be a national which is 60mph. Some places the speed is the wrong way round super dumb when it should be slow and slow when theres no chance of pedestrians etc and should be higher. At this speed tbh I'm more likely to fall asleep and have an accident then actually make an error.
