Excellent video, your look in the cameras shows real confidence, as it should be..! Canada has over a hundred million hectares of peat lands. On farm land that needs implements driven over it, it is sometimes dosed with diesel fuel and burnt. Wheat likes heavy soil, so why waste it? In planting mixes some folks say use coconut coir which is produced in India or Sri Lanka and brought over by ship, I do not know if those workers get decent conditions or a reasonable wage so because I like products from my own country I will continue to support it. All your reason for not using it for turf are good and sound, it is cheaper here as it is expensive to ship bulky stuff.
Thank you for sharing. Those are some great insights. I stopped using it because it didn't help with seed washing out. When you read more about it the reasons not to use it really add up. Thanks for watching
@@lanieroutside Indeed the light stuff either washes or if it is to dry it might cake hard on the surface. I am using black, super light plastic deer fencing held down with landscape staples on hill renovations. 7 feet by 100 feet for about 20$.
I learned something new today. Thanks brother 👊! I've seen people doing soil samples and you aren't lying! There was a layer of peat moss in the soil that hadn't decomposd and they had put the peat moss out 4 years prior to the video that they did. Crazy stuff! Have a good weekend. I hate to say it, but the Dawgs game yesterday was a struggle win.
It works to help germinate seed but after that does nothing! I am using the Pennington seeding straw this year with good results so far. I worked all day yesterday so missed the Dawgs, glad we won though with Tennessee going down to the Gators and Alabama didn’t look good. Gonna be a good season! 👊👊
You can add a little top soil if you need to level out but don't have to use anything. The main concern is slopes. My backyard is sloped so the peat moss doesn't work. I used a product called slopemaster from pennington the first time I seeded with good results. Water 3-4 times per day for sure for new seed! Just don't water too much the goal is to keep the soil moist.

That's a good idea!
Excellent video. But I like peat moss for seed germination.
Thanks. It does work for sure but just not for me anymore.
@@lanieroutside Definitely has downsides. I especially dislike the layering effect. I sprinkle a very light topping.
lol

Do I have to use any kind of top dressing? Like just put a little top soil and water 3-4 times a day to start?
