Yep..did last mow back in September, applied Fall/Winter pre-emergent and my bermuda lawn is still looking really good going into the cold season. Just a few weeds here and there to pull up but nothing to talk about. I'm looking forward to doing some leveling early spring.
@@rucnitnow awesome! Enjoy the off season!

Ya know what I do with my lawn. NOTHING. I do not fertilize, I do not pick up leaves, hardly mow, and do not use pesticide or herbicide. Thought about planting dandelion. I prefer it dead and brown. It's less time-consuming, cost-effective, and pisses off my neighbors.
@@shanewestphal1557 it’s all about what works for you👍

I am a District Manager for Pennington. Smart Seed Pro is the only blue tag certified seed in Lowe’s and Home Depot.
So far I am happy with the results! I did see a bag similar to this one at Lowes but haven't looked at Home depot. Supersod had it at the best price.
Have little acorns in my yard. Will a blower get those up too? My yard is 400 square ft and a rental. So I weed eat the whole thing. Those little things hurt when my weed eater slings them
@@MelissaT318 I have a nut collector from Lowe’s, corona brand. You can roll it and pick up the nuts. The leaf blower won’t remove them for me. Great question!
I blow leaves off into the adjacent woods. Then (as always) I cut and bag the clippings. A bagged lawn just looks cleaner no matter how fine the mower mulches the grass.
@@dalewiley9208 absolutely. Especially those oak leaves they just don’t break down as well! I’m aiming to get a leaf sweeper to pull next season!
I’ve had mine for 8 years. It saves me 20 minutes over a 21” mower on a .7 acre yard which is nice. The problem with the 30” Toro is replacing belts, pulleys and other parts associated with turning the blades. You had better be prepared to do this work yourself as I had a quoted repair of $540. I replaced several parts myself for $176 in materials only. I like how the mower cuts but don’t like repairing worn parts every 1-1/2 years or so. Probably would not recommend to purchase as time savings is eaten up by fixing it.
@@TonyPap281 thanks for sharing! I’m almost done with year 4 on mine with few problems. Hoping next year I will upgrade to the riding mower.
Good information. If you are buying seed at a local big box or landscaping supply store, check every label. Jonathan green may have 20 bags of the exact blend, but the label will have different germination rates, weeds, and inert matter. I guess because it came from different crops. Also check the expiration date and pick the freshest seed.
@@El_El_Guapo good points thanks for sharing! I have used the same mix of Johnathan Green but different bags and also found the tag to show different numbers and cultivars on the back 👍
Hello, nice video! I would like to sponsor you a smart irrigation controller, which can complete a series of watering operations through the app. Are you interested? Just provide honest feedback.

Great video. Two thumbs up!!
@@ronfontenot4534 Thanks👍👊
Bare spots dry out SO FAST the seed never has a chance to take hold. Laying down some straw greatly increases the odds but it can still fail if there isn't enough water or rain. The upside is that once it takes hold it needs a lot less water because the turf layer itself holds onto water much better than bare dirt. Though I will say that just throwing grass seed on unprepared dirt can fail even if you're out there every hour watering it.
Good points. Prep is so important before putting the seed down for sure. I use a little greenworks dethatcher. Not the best machine for a big yard. It gets all the old dead junk up and scrapes little grooves in the soil and breaks up the surface. This seems to work well but I do wish I got some seed straw down before Helene came through. It would have helped with some of the washout. Appreciate the comments!

@@kevinbrooks1104 that is really important for sure 👍
good to know ,,Question ,does seed need to be stored in a specific manner ,if I have an open bag is it still good ,or should it be kept in air tight container ,does it have a shelf life ,,I know dumb question right
@@billhamilton7524 that’s a really good question. You can store seed. It needs to stay dry. I keep open bags in a solid black storage tote in my garage. You can store it for a year or two. The germination rate may go down the older it gets. Great question 👍

Moss yards are pretty
They are. Not very wear tolerant and slick if you have kids so not for me 👍
I'm in Northern CA 9b. My issue is that the front lawn gets full sun during the summer, then my house completely shades the entire lawn in the fall (literally no direct sunlight all day). It wasn't until a few weeks ago i realized my shade dilemma. Due to our heat, spring seeding isn't much of an option. I don't want to put down a dense shade mix in the fall because I would think it would get fried in the summer. Im on day 8 post seeding a complete renovation with blue resilience from twin city seed. 3 types tttf and kgb. Im concerned im wasting my time with this renovation. I understand germination will take longer than if I were getting direct sunlight, but I am concerned it will not sprout at all 😢
@@El_El_Guapo just keep it watered and mow when it reaches about 3 inches. Sounds like you have put down good seed gotta just wait and see what happens. Sometimes it will come in a lot better in the spring just gotta get it established in the fall. Good luck!
Good stuff, dude. It's always nice when the bag is just the right size for the lawn. I like how you worded it "less weeds" instead of no weeds. There's always gonna be some that win out lol.
Thanks! You got that right my old lawn was 5000 sqft which is what a lot of bags cover! I will still have some Poa as there is a lot of resistant type in Ga that pre emergent has no effect on. Contemplating a dormant roundup app next year for those cockroaches!

I applied the Scott's Mossex yesterday. What is my next step after the 2 to 4 week period? My goal was to get some Fall/Winter Fertilizer down along with new seed. Should I wait until the moss problem is done?
@@FrankConnellRealtor really depends on your location. Here in Georgia you still have time to seed cool season grass. Further north you may not. I have had much better luck with the liquid moss out product recently. Spray it, rake out the dead moss and seed. Works much faster than the Scott’s granular. Good luck with that moss!
Should I blow leaves off first? Then mow? I have leaves on my newly overseeded lawn, flower beds, driveway. I have a designated area in the back of the house. Can I blow the leaves to that area first then mow the lawn?
@@TriniDB really depends I wouldn’t use a real high power blower on the new grass. I’ve used my battery powered blower on a low throttle recently to blow the leaves off. If you plan to mow you could just throw the bagger on and bag everything up

Lanier, as you know we had a pretty warm fall here in Iowa and overseeding in September would of just lead to dead dry grass seed. Now that it's starting to cool off, If I plant grass seed and get it germinated and coming up about and inch, will it make it thru the winter or is it just a waste of time and money?
@@rays9719 same here in Georgia. It is hard to tell. 2022 we had a hard freeze in December an a lot of my cool season didn’t survive but some did and it looked decent. I have had many issues with my 2016 Toro 30 in TimeMaster. It NEVER starts hot. There was a recall to change the crummy paper fuel filter, but i solved that design flaw, where the fuel feed is only 1/2 in drop from the tank outlet to Briggs 120000 series engine carb. I lashed on my Honda GCV190 Tank and a nice long hose, with a Disc filter and Shutoff valve from Home Depot. The Briggs recall is to install a metal HEAT SHIELD between the cyl head and float bowl, to fix hot restarting. I often do better than that, just get some silver foil faced R-MAX foam insulation, maybe cut 3x5in,, smash a recess to fit behind the float bowl with a small hammer, and shove it in place above the black plastic belt guard cover. surfaces, that worked for a few years, then needed to cool things down with Starting fluid or Gumout to restart hot. I then replaced the carbs several times with the inexpensive ones on Amazon. Worked a little better than Briggs OEM. FINALLY, I did replace the Magneto coil and shutoff switch, but yesterday PROVED THE NEW ONE IS INTERMITTENT. Got an adjustable Spark Tester, set for 10KV gap or larger - NO OUTPUT!!!!!!!!!!! Then I took the old one, sanded the pole pieces and TAPED the entire HV lead with 3M Electrical tape, and split the plastic insulator sleeve from my new Spark Tester, covering the CHAFED section where the muffler heatshield abradedi it. BINGO, it finally started! I then checked the Compression cold, but forgot to open the throttle plate - it read almost 30lbs. We also replaced the crummy HEAD GASKET again, with the 2nd gasket in the $42 Amazon kit, which HAS A NICE METAL fire ring, but is for the 223CC Upgraded engine all the Yard Service guys pay $500 new, to finally fix the underpowered temperamental 190. I found the old gasket BLEW OUT near the Exhaust side, a second time, vapor from all my Starting Fluid was coming out. Another telltale sign was the 4 head bolts were NOT TIGHT. I should have retourqued to the 125 in-lbs spec AGAIN after a month. Since 70lbs seems to be the spec for these 190CC motors, I WILL be buying a new Piston, Rings, and Wrist pin set, and the 2 different length Rod bolts to raise the crummy 30lbs that is causing stalling issues. And my friend set the VALVE clearances ay 0.006in, AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW thicker gasket. It starts if I put the choke rod in, but soon I fave to remove it, and flip the choke spring 180 degrees over, to the main governor spring post, r it will bog down too rich! What you didn’t talk about was the traction of the wheels, steadiness of the mower during your pass, the ability of the mower to run without blades, the larger bag capacity when you are mowing, the ease of changing the height on two wheels instead of 4 wheels on a push mower, deeper deck if you are dealing with wet grass, and maneuvering of handles if you have to store or carry on truck. All these nuances save a lot of time and it is worth every penny.
@@phillipoliver2106 well the video wasn’t about reasons you should buy it 🤣
Just wait until year four. One of the deck's synchronous belt sprockets failed on me while mowing this week causing the blades to crash. The sprocket seems cheaply made, mostly plastic, and held together with 4 small screws. Not sure yet what else is damaged...but up to this point I've been mostly pleased with my Time Master.
@@taylormorgan1509 this is almost the end of year 4 for me! It’s still going strong! Hoping next year it will be replaced with a rider finally.
@@lanieroutside I suppose it's about the end of year 4 ownership for me also. Glad yours is still going strong! I dropped the Timemaster off this morning to have it checked for additional damage caused by the failure and the Toro dealer had never seen this before, so hopefully it is rare. The idler and tension pulley for the synchronous belt, and the belt, all seem fine so it's really odd.
@@taylormorgan1509 hope they get it fixed at a decent price for you. I’ve heard of this problem after heavy use so hopefully mine makes it a bit longer! My recycler broke a drive belt so no backup right now if the timemaster breaks. I have my eyes on a John Deere tractor hopefully next season!
@@lanieroutside yeah same here. I'd heard of the idler and tensioner pulley (the ones that are smooth) for the synchronous belt breaking but hadn't heard of the cogged pulley (Toro calls a sprocket) breaking. Unfortunately not going to be very cheap bc I'm going ahead and replacing all 4 of those pulleys as a precaution but cheaper than a new mower 😅. Good luck! I had a nice rider initially but it was too big for my yard. The 30" is perfect but not a lot of options in that size.
Back in the seventies we use to put down 10-10-10 and you would see it get darker. I fertilize with a lot of different fertilizer and haven’t found anything that darkens like it use to. It’s almost like they got rid of the most valuable ingredients.
Not sure if maybe there was other stuff in it back then? This fertilizer works well for me but I plan to change it up next season to a 16-4-8 from supersod. They sell a 50 pound bag for 38.99. Not a bad deal.

Now the deck is 30" but your never going to achieve that each pass, only the very first pass. Also as a long time 2017 timemaster owner as so many of us are, it is easy to tell when the comments tend to be sales people based. Comments only for those who do not know the real deal and are trying to make a decision. Mesery loves company and many remarks in this post are very misleading. Do your research folks. Good video man and your time table is spot on.
@@1jantheman1 thanks for sharing your experience! A lot of the reviews are biased for sure. I enjoy all the comments!😬
If you're just mowing your personal property I could see this review being useful but the Timemaster I'm pretty sure is geared more towards people with side hustles/self employed as lawn care servicemen and sold with a market strategy that focuses on personal use. Sure you could use it if your have a property thats more than a half acre of lawn but thats a not exactly the average person in modern society.
@@BPad-oy6sr I do see them on trailers being used as commercial from time to time but it is a homeowner grade lawn mower marketed as such
Same here. We just had a juvenile copper head at the neighbors house!
Wow, got to be careful! Knock on wood just rat snakes and garter snakes so far on my property. I plan to rip up the remaining fabric when it is cold out to be on the safe side!
Do I have to use any kind of top dressing? Like just put a little top soil and water 3-4 times a day to start?
You can add a little top soil if you need to level out but don't have to use anything. The main concern is slopes. My backyard is sloped so the peat moss doesn't work. I used a product called slopemaster from pennington the first time I seeded with good results. Water 3-4 times per day for sure for new seed! Just don't water too much the goal is to keep the soil moist.
@@lanieroutside thks!
that expert gardener fertilizer is excellent at a great price
@@AntLive29 I have been happy with it!
Ah man... I'm jonesing for some Zoysia content ;) This is great. I have some water catchment and a small water pump I've been using for spot watering. I don't know why I didn't think about doing something like this instead of that crappy traditional sprinkler. Thank you for posting!
Thanks, this setup works great for areas that my irrigation does not cover! Still not sure what my results will be long term with the zoysia. It has come in decent but weeds and disease have caused some issues with the first area I seeded. The second area was seeded early August. It will likely be next season before I see the results and if it works in my semi shaded areas of the yard! Next projects will be overseeding my cool season sections of the lawn! Appreciate ya!
@@lanieroutside ah man that’s a bummer for sure. I was looking forward to seeing it. I had to go with a cheaper option. I snagged some blackjack Bermuda seed until I can swing it. The struggle is real!
