I’m a school crossing guard here in Brooklyn, NYC. Here the traffic is horrible so I’m always looking for a great quality whistle. I just ordered the brand Fox 40 Classic & Sonik Blast. Can’t wait to try them out at work 😂 , great video 👍🏽
A crossing guard? You are a legend! And you are helping keep kids safe day in and day out. Great choice of whistles. The Classic and Sonik Blast are the workhorses of the whistle world.
I use my whistle regularly on my City's Greenway trail when riding my bike because there is a blind curve on the trail and before entering the curve I like to warns other pedestrians and bikers of my approach to the curve. I have a collection of whistles and I found that the Storm whistle and the Binboll triple tube whistle are very loud whereas the Noopel triple tube whistle is thin, light weight and comfortable but it isn't as loud as the Storm nor the Bindoll whistle.
Hi Dan. I'd say so. While others may not agree, I'm of the firm belief that the debate of which quality whistle is best is less important than the critical importance of having a quality whistle when one might need it, or not having one. Fox 40 makes quality products. (PS: Even cheap-costing whistles are generally better than having no whistle, though why not just equip oneself with a quality whistle that won't crack or break.) Keep well.
Thanks Alonzo. I like the Storm whistle. It's great at what it does. For me, it's too bulky for my general contexts like outdoor sport or leisure activity. I have a few emergency items for when I scuba dive and my whistle of choice is a Fox40 so it doesn't take up too much space in my BCD. The Storm is brilliant in a stored emergency kit like in a house, boat, car, ..., emergency kit. For having on me or in something I'm carrying, I'll go with quality compact whistles so they don't take up too much room. And as always, the only good whistle is one we have when needed. The Storm can be a great choice.
I have the Storm Whistle, three Fox 40 whistles and several other brands. I think the Storm Whistle is going to get the most attention. I did not buy it for the size of it, but for effectiveness. I like the Fox 40 whistles as a second choice. It is not to big to carry IMHO.
Sounds good to me Stephen. All of them are great in my opinion and likely quite effective. For my purposes of cycling, running, and being on key chains, the Fox 40 ones are great, but for when a bit bulkier is not an issue, I'm there with you, the Storm Whistle is great. Classic element of having it is 95% of the success. All the best.
Ya, that cheap 5-in-1 survival pea whistle is not the most impressive sounding whistle and it's construction feels really cheap but it does the trick in a pinch. If it came down to that whistle or nothing, a working whistle is still a whistle.
Acme are the finest whistle makers. J Hudson invented the whistle. If you wish to have a pea whistle, acme thunderers are absolutely brilliant. You can get metal and plastic versions at different tones and pitches. If you wish to get a pealess whistle then try acme's tornado versions. I believe they also do cyclone which is most recent technology and easier to blow for a pealess whistle. I promise you acme whistles are outstanding quality. I've had mine for years and have lasted well. The pea whistles pea is made from cork which enables the whistles to create a loud shrill sound as well as surviving harsh weather. Pea whistles are meant to be more hygienic than the pealess whistles. Please consider acme. I give credit to fox40 as I believe they were the first or one of the first to invent the pealess whistle.
Hi Stevie. Thanks for the comment. I haven't tried the ACME whistles to date, or maybe in youth before the current generation of plastic whistles. I like your review of them, though. A good whistle is a good whistle. Glad they have served you well. Keep thing with any quality whistle is having it when potentially needed. My smooth edge plastic whistles are great for being on a keychain and not jabbing into legs when in my pockets. Keep well!
Whistles are noisy, but they can be used to save people’s lives in times of trouble. 👍🏻 if they remind you of Titanic where 🌹 attracted the attention of a crew member who rowed the lifeboat at sea 109 years ago in April.
Andrea, you are so right. Whistles are so important to emergencies in marine and other water environments. Sound travels far on flatter water and a whistle will help alert people/rescuers nearby. A person in water is also hard to see if there are even small waves and a whistle is so important in helping rescuers find someone. On that note, every single life jacket should always have a whistle attached. Keep well Andrea!
hello thanks for all the info. do you know any lower pitch whistles or whistles from other countrys? for some reason i think its like a Swedish safety whistle and a st bernard comes in with that barrel around there neck.
I wander how the marine style performed compared to the fox micro one, the marine sounds much better in my opinion but also seems to be quieter, but i assume it could be the mic sensitivity to different tones.
Thanks Marcio. There's a lot of debate out there about what style and construction of whistle is better or best. From my perspective, it is far more a question of a person having or not having a whistle when it is needed. The small difference in performance between this or that whistle is not likely to matter too much beyond, for example, someone calling for help and a premium whistle being able to cast a good sound 600m versus 500m. The bigger issue, in my general opinion, is if one had a whistle or not. Any quality whistle will do pretty well. Also depends on how hard one blasts any particular whistle. Keep well!
Hi Mandi, great thinking. We have whistles for the kids when camping for the same reason. For that application, the Fox 40 Micro with breakaway lanyard. It's a flat whistle and the breakaway lanyard is safer for wearing around one's neck. Cascades is such a great setting! Keep well.
Chen the Yoda’s species guy carried a rusty brass metal whistle to communicate signals and commands to his animals while defeating the enemies in the game called revenge chen
Dmitry, yet another use for a whistle. Commanding an army via a whistle has yet to be on of my uses but awesome. I'm guessing that Morse Code would come in handy for that. Keep well.
The Fox 40 Sonik Blast is a great whistle and has a more rounded shape than the Fox 40 Classic. One can't go wrong with the Sonik Blast. Keep well, Sandra. And of course, the best whistle is one one has when it's eventually needed. You can also attach a Sonik Blast to your key chains.
Time stamps to each whistle are in the description. Also wtch my comprehensive guide to emergency whistles: ruclips.net/video/4IWl36MH44s/видео.html Remember: a good whistle is one you have with you! Buy in bulk and have them where needed.
Joyce, I believe context is important in understanding the various whistles but to help people navigate the episode to specific model sounds, I have now added time stamps to the episode. All the best.

The Fox 40 micro sounds as good as the full size one!

2:38 - Got a purchase link for that pack-strap mini whistle?
Storm was meant to be used while you wear gloves, like when you scuba dive or are skiing, etc.

I'm looking for one that is loud and can be used by a child? We live around the Cascades and children go missing every year camping and hiking.

Fox 40 classic sounds like kuanga manatog's manatog whistle
Sofia, I will have to take your word on that... :-)

Less useless side talk and instead focus more on the products.
