solenoid motor construction (V-twin)

  • A video showing the construction of an electric V-twin motor using solenoids as the basis for power, 12 volt solenoids bought on ebay are the basis and the pushrod setup for switching is purely for a mechanical look and not the easiest way to do it but much nicer to look at and great fun to build. The brake is required as a no load situation will tend to run at high speed even at low volts , much easier to control speed this way. Power produced is low and useful for demonstration only.

    Fantastic! I propose a solonoid driven electric motorcyle next. Say a 5 cilinder radial mounted within each wheel. That would make it a 10-cyclinder. The frame can then be used for all batteries etc.. Oh, and it must be able to do 100 miles/h, have a minimum range of 150 miles and cost below US$ 5.000. Delivery time 14 days. Now get on with it and make it happen!

    Thank you, this movie drew attention to the vibration produced by motor solenoid .
    Min 3:28 strong vibration = motor solenoid (V-twin) is an electric motor and generator, brushless, continuous current including low tension and high curent , and AC, which produces probably the most powerful vibrations for an electric engine , unhealthy for the human body . Better Radial solenoid engine

      If he has a way to take back the coil energy (easy with simple electronics), this motor does not have a serious reason to be less efficient than a traditional electric motor.

      12 volt DC (battery or power supply),as for a V8, too much time and materials for something of no practical use I'm afraid!

    Well done, great job indeed! Does this thing can power my bicycle when i have to pedal up to the wind. And can you tell me, how many watts or kilowatts that size of specimen can do? And else- I have dream that every piston and cylinder of each car have been replaced with the solenoid. What do you think about it?

    • @robtaylor1059
      @robtaylor1059  10 лет назад

      Thanks for the compliments! As for powering your bike, this motor would not power it well at all. This is a very inefficient way to convert electrical energy to rotational energy, much better with a conventional DC motor, but, electric car motors would at least look cool if this was efficient!

    Going from rotary motor to reciprocating electric engine is an interesting but backward step. Rotary engines are more compact and powerful than reciprocating ones because they have no reversing parts. Remember the Wankel rotary engine? Reversing motion is a waste of energy and causes vibration, noise and limits the speed. Reciprocating compressors and pumps are being replaced with rotary ones because they are lighter and more efficient.

      +Odouls77 Open the hood of your Mazda, and compare what you see to a Brough Superior S1100 V-Twin, or any Harley V-Twin, to the ugly crap that under your hood! If you cannot see the difference in the elegance and even "beauty" of the V-Twin and the elegance of this creation, then as Wittgenstein said, "the conversation is at an end."
      If you don't know what a Brough is, go watch the first 10 minutes of "Lawrence of Arabia" again...
      inspiring work!!! Now can you get this thing to do some work? even if it is to push a sewing machine needle around, or grind my morning espresso?

    I've been wanting to build one of these but I'm a bit confused. It seems to me that with the push rod set up, the engine fires at 75 and 105 degrees (assuming the cylinders are at a 30 degree angle from each other). Is this so, or is there something I'm missing? Wouldn't this create a lot of rocking action or is this not a problem with a flywheel?

    Hello sir. we're currently in the sixth grade mechanics and we're searching for a project to make with our class. The solonoid motor really inspires us! Would you be willing to send me some plans you drawed while making the project or soms drawings from inventor or autocad or etc ?And if you don't have any plans could you make another video how the crank shaft and the connecting rod works cause in the video i can't see it proparly and i don't see how the other solonoid is powerd cause you only make 1 connecting rod. On the first sketch i saw you had some measurements could you take a picture of that so we know where to begin with. It would be a great help because we can't find plans anywhere.
    Thanks in advance!

      I made this up as I went along with just the sketch seen at the beginning. Most dimensions are set by what bearings you use and what solenoids you get. Understanding what I wanted at the end and what materials I had to use dictated how it turned out. You need to be reasonably competent with machine tools to tackle this. Not real good with plans myself....

    • @robtaylor1059
      @robtaylor1059  10 лет назад

      rob taylor P.S. most solenoids have an advertised 10mm stroke but can easily handle being used at 20 or 25mm. Go for about 1kg@10mm and 12v. metal encased. (about $20 on ebay)
