    I must say that. We were a few friends playing guitar in the 60's in Paris. We knew the DJ of a discotheque in Paris, who said he comes back from London with a single never heard yet. We knew about JH , but never heard him yet. Then we ran to the Pierre Charron discotheque, middle of the day, only us in the place. Then the moment I'll never forget came . That intro , that sound. that touch . Jaws fell on the ground. the rest is history.

    coiled cables act as a low pass, so the highs loss are partially because of it too.

    • @SykoLiu
      @SykoLiu 5 лет назад +1

      Well, all cables act as a low-pass filter, and the longer the cable the bigger the effect.
      But you’re right here, and that’s why the buffer helped a lot! A buffer counteracts the tone loss from cable impedance.

    • @Mathcartney
      @Mathcartney 5 лет назад +1

      @@SykoLiu yes and no. The coiled ones acts as a natural resistance because of the... coil shape. The normal ones suffer from the loss, but not in the same way and the longer the cable the more you hear, but a cool experience is have a 5m coil and a 5m normal one, you will hear a different kind of loss because of the coil "filtering".

    • @SykoLiu
      @SykoLiu 5 лет назад

      @@Mathcartney What? The shape doesn't matter. The reason why a coiled 5m will sound different than a straight 5m is that there is more cable in a coiled one.
      I know that guitarists are prone to superstition, but thinking that the shape of your cable affects tone is a new one for me... Coiled cables simply require a longer length of actual wire in order to get the same practical distance.

    • @Mathcartney
      @Mathcartney 5 лет назад +1

      SykoLiu in electric engineering you see this. Why do you think that inside some devices there are cables coiled manually? It goes even further than aesthetics, but that’s ok I’m not talking guitar world gibberish here, anyone believes what they want. Peace.

    • @SykoLiu
      @SykoLiu 5 лет назад

      @@Mathcartney I believe math and science, and I'd love to see the math behind your claims.
      It just happens that I study acoustics and electronics (so-called electro-acoustics conveniently), and I know that the science behind what you're claiming simply doesn't exist.
      There are many practical reasons for coiling cables beyond aesthetics, but it's never because the shape itself affects the way the cable/wire works.
      This is easily tested at home. Does your lamp look different when you move the power cord? Does your phone charge better when you lay the cable out flat? Does the sound of your guitar change as you walk around the room?

    Great overview of all the pedals. For my style of playing, I'd go with the Fuzz Face and maybe the Univibe. I like that the FF has both germanium and silicon transistors plus the buffer making it a little more versatile in terms of fuzz tones. The Octavio and Gypsys Fuzz didn't do much for me in terms of useful or versatile tones.

  • @RC32Smiths01
    @RC32Smiths01 5 лет назад +17

    The tones give off a modern twist to the late 60s psychedelic Hendrix vibe. The Fuzz sounds incredibly strong, but I know that too much of a guitar effect is either a good or a bad thing. Nevertheless, I would say to a degree it does justice to the most iconic and legendary guitarist ever!

    Never understood why the Hendrix strats have a backwards headstock but not a backwards pickguard

    What really matters is that John Mayer is in the UK in a couple of days. Hope we finally get to see the meet we all’ve been waiting for. Surely Pete is ironing his shirt already 😁 btw I sent a reminder to John’s insta not to forget to meet you guys, just in case. You’re welcome 😉 (well I also mentioned that if I can convince him to go I’d probably get a free guitar from you guys 😂, I have to try all right)

    Is the buffer on the first fuzz always on? because if so the last two fuzz might have their sound destroyed by that... It make sense to have a buffer on the output of the fuzz but on the input it always ends with a scratchy sound. YMMV of course.

    Pete, look up Randy Hansen he nails Jimi’s tone and persona. Highly recommend. So if you really try hard you CAN sound like Jimi Hendrix.

    The only thing is why the people that really did the mods for Jimi like Roger Mayer UK or Dave Weyer who did the Band Of Gypsies fuzz why they are not asked.
    The octavia was Rogers idea and some other brand now makes them and it sounds not like Jimi wanted it as it was really proto types.
    Besides you need the drive from at least one 100 watts Marshall stack turned up.
    So it was not good and awfull especially when you got the gear to make it like it better with that Marshall to the right involved with some attenuator then use volume on guitar handle the fuzz. Be aware that Dunlop is one trick pony that may have the rights but great sounding anything?

      The Fuzzes sound fine, particularly the BOG. I have the regular mini version. If you don't have cranked Plexis. just run the Fuzz into a bit of dirt from a MIB/Plexi pedal, or a Bluesbreaker-circuit like a KOT, Vick Mount Pleasant, etc.
      MXR has a few tricks, some very good. The Univibe sucks, tho. No throb. Just sounds like a phaser to me.
