    Amazing how the timbers look so good in comparison the rest of it.

    • @Hot-labs
      @Hot-labs  5 лет назад

      That's the trouble with dry rot the timber can look fine but the fungus is/ has sucked out the moisture and cellulose leaving a skeleton of timber I've seen stairs held together with just paint, cut out timbers and plaster a meter past last visible source of rot and treat

    It made feel a bit nauseous. I'm guessing the remedy is to burn it down and start over?

      hey Matthew ! liked your weather vane :),
      the building will be stripped back to a meter passed the last signs of attack and treated with specialist chemicals

    Wow, what caused that? There must have been damp in a lot of places rather than just one? Air brick there as well.😮

      It was underneath a fish mongers shop they mopped the floor a lot ! No air bricks present 🙂

    Bad outbreak, but why are some of the timbers unaffected?

    • @Hot-labs
      @Hot-labs  5 лет назад

      Probably infected on the insides of the beams , so on something this bad best to take out all the floor, we didn't get the job so I don't know the outcome

    O.....M.....G! What was the smell like? I take it this is your day job? Brilliant example of a poorly ventilated cellar. Good video.

    It looks like your basement was taken over by Hollywood to shoot a remake of the Blob. Looks like some serious work ahead.

      I don't think the cellar been used in four or five years so its had plenty of time to grow, its very serious

    That is some serious case of dry rot. I'm currently dealing with this myself in my wife work place, they were greeted with muchrooms and some light brown dusting on the floor when they opened up after the lockdown. Something telling me I need a lot more then a scraper, as It was coming through the gaps of the skirting. How does the brown dust get everywhere?

    • @Hot-labs
      @Hot-labs  4 года назад

      Joker Joker the brown dust is the spores which are usually spread by a large fruiting body , this is usually the final stage of the fungus’s life cycle before it starts again, meaning it’s now well established, the lockdown period may of been the conditions needed in your case as it likes poor air ventilation, time to call in a expert ... 😕

    • @Hot-labs
      @Hot-labs  4 года назад +1

      To answer your first question, the spores travel on the air currents , they are everywhere in nature and can lay dormant for years waiting for the correct combination damp and poor air circulation, needs affected timbers removing , Biocide treatments , extra air bricks etc

  • @hoobsgroove
    @hoobsgroove 2 года назад +1

    how do you get dry rot?
    does it form from wet rot

    • @Hot-labs
      @Hot-labs  2 года назад

      Dry rot is fungi the conditions need to be right, humidity and poor airflow the fungi will spread out strands looking for moisture , it will attach to timber and suck it dry .. making it crumble

    • @hoobsgroove
      @hoobsgroove 2 года назад +1

      @@Hot-labs so the lack of airflow humidity causes the issue

    • @Hot-labs
      @Hot-labs  2 года назад

      @@hoobsgroove yes , it starts off with a spore , they are everywhere in nature, but they are fussy! The conditions have to be just right

      Air bricks are important

      @@Hot-labs what would you say about sprayed in wall insulation then a bad thing, I was tempted to block up some of my air brakes but just on the inside, because they go straight to the outside ones not sure that's advisable now, but leave the outside open tho! but would thst create condensation between two cavities? would that create a difference between temperature causing condensation.

      Hi, yes dust masks and paper suits for the strip out, when it comes to the chemical treatment, proper respirators with carbon cartridges for vapours!

  • @ESSA20
    @ESSA20 4 года назад +2

    Hey , is there any chemicals or rot killers I could use off the shelf, till I find a a company to deal with dry rot I have.

    • @Hot-labs
      @Hot-labs  4 года назад

      You can find biocides on eBay , you can clean off the masonry , spray it , drill and inject and the timbre can be sprayed , but it’s very temporary and has to be removed as soon as possible really as the fungus will be at the core and spraying won’t help much , I won’t hang around to find a company to do it .. it spreads fast in the right conditions
