Living off Grid is a future dream for us and we've been looking for the perfect homestead for the last couple of years.. Is this the one? Did we find our dream property??

I love catching up each week. Quite happy to watch the van build, the land hunting, motoring issues etc... It's all real, no glammed up life's a bunch of roses and we are just so lucky that all we do is travel, stuff. You start off watching a travel vlog and end up following whatever you 2 are up to. Hi Amigos, take a look at the provincia de Jaén. Second least populated place in Spain. Beautiful province and virtually give away prices. It an ageing population and young folk aren’t interested in farming olives. Take a look around Alcalá La Real. Beautiful area.

Your brake problem is most definitely a binding brake. The caliper is not releasing the pads from the disc. Only answer is a new caliper or a complete overhaul of the caliper. The later has been done once on my car so it does work. When the wheel gets very hot it melts the grease in the hub. You must get this fixed before any more excursions.
Thanks, we have tried to fix this before and rebuilt the calliper last year swapping out the pistons and glider pins and also changing lots of break components, it’s so frustrating.. Thanks so much for watching..
@@theexPAWersdid you change the rubber hose in the end? Has the caliper been dangled from it? Is it a bad hose? Was your servo adjustment not quite enough?
The bearings will definitely need cleaning out & repacking with grease, while you're there look closely to see if the plating has worn through either on the rollers or the tracks (the underlying metal is a slightly different colour) & see if the bearings have been spinning on the shaft (they or the shaft will be scuffed).
Hubby says that Hub grease got so hot it's melted and running out of the bearing

Yes, it needs so much work to make it a place of dreams tbh, but we do love it, so peaceful up there 😊
That gunk on Vinnie's wheel is grease coming out of the wheel bearings. That is a secondary symptom from the brakes having got too hot. You need to take the hub off and re grease the bearings. Katy sends her love to Vinnie.

it could be the brake overheating before cooked the bearing, check everything.
Build all you want! Both are just fine!
I assume the vans not got abs, have you changed the brake fluid recently as could be contaminated, a good flush out might help as it's a cheap thing too do.

We brought a small holding in wales in the hills when we were 50 years old , it took us till then to get money together , loads of work needed , my advice don’t drag your heals too long wish we could have afforded to do it in our 40s health wise 15 years later don’t always feel like tackling some of the heavy jobs . Love watching you guys so many exciting projects don’t burn yourselfs out , love from wales ❤

My dad used to do a lot of construction and when he was writing his project plans he always included "looking time". He would have agreed with you Nick, it's a major part of any build.

Lovely road trip lovely land I can’t wait to get back to my land 😊 every van built I’ve built I just build it around my bed. My bed is the main part, then my kitchen and then the rest just falls into place. Seem to . I forget about the loo 😂😂

It’s a beautiful place but then again we live in a beautiful world and it needs to be explored before we settle down and do lots of work in one place.. Back to travel ASAP!! 😊
It looks like a brake caliper sticking...fit a new or as new reconditioned one then there should be no problems..and check the wheel bearing is ok and not to tight.👍👍🏴
How about looking for a property in Galicia or Asturias? Much coooler, more water, cheaper and travelling to the south in winter? When you were travelling any plants wouldn't die etc.

That's a great idea. I bet a lot of your subscribers would jump all over it!
My advice is to choose land that is basically ready to use/serve . Basic structures, home, garage, sheds which require only minimum repairs can be an artistic opportunity to adapt designs to fit your priorities {cooking, gardening, a base camp for your van life} and, hopefully only light maintenance in the future. Taking on too much at this point will be a bigger hindrance and inconvenience as you get older. You must have year round access, drainage for runoff, reliable drinking water, septic system, and probably electric power. Just all that is alot to have and maintain. Do not skimp on these basics. Any time and energy you have once these needs are met is yours for the taking. Keep it simple and life will provide much abundance for your pleasure.
Thanks for the advice, we’ve thought long and hard about what we want over the last week or so moving forward in our lives and keeping things uncomplicated is probably the best way to go, we’re happy as we are and can’t wait to hit the road again! That is what we are focusing on right now.. We love that property, but in reality it’s far too much for us 😊

a on the spot quick fix with vinies brakes, use a hammer and hit between the wheel nuts, the shocks will hopefully free up the calipers.. sounds like calipers need service or replacing.. the heat has melted bearing grease, and could warp the disks, giving a judder on the peddle... plenty of videos on how to service or replace caplipers.. don't give up on vinnie, he will only go up in value, one day he will be a classic..

Seems like that brake master cylinder needs a bit more adjustment - the leak from the hub is probably melted grease caused by the heat from the brake disk.😊

Yeah it's just because the brakes have got to hot. I have the same van been experiencing the same issue. My brake pipes had broken down internally. They were cheap at £17 each side. I've actually changed everything and the pipe was last thing. It's now fixed and only took minutes to sort. Worth a try for the small amount of money it cost.
We changed the flex hose last year trying to get to the bottom of the problem so it wasn’t that unfortunately 😢

Hi guys looks like brake caliper is binding on vinny causing the heat issue what a time you’ve had with that wheel so annoying right , hope you can get it fixed soon . The plot of land and house you looked at was defo beautiful but and there’s always a but to everything lol to me would take a lot of hard work and money if you are prepared to go that far would be defo a dream house when finished for sure, I think the right one is out there for you both take your time and factor all the pros and cons for sure have a lovely weekend ahead and take care and wish you both all the best ❤️👍👌🚐🚐🐾🐾🦴🦴🥂🍺

It's the thinking and planning that saves time and money and ultimately produces a good build, the problem is when your having a deep conversation inside your head at two oclock in the morning when your in bed and can't wait to express an idea and implement the idea you get up early.

Wow it’s the best land I have seen so far. So beautiful and green, so much character. To have so many wells and water available is really priceless. The driveway would be worth fixing. 👏🏼Then live in the van while restoring.

That's wheel bearing grease on the wheel. It's melted. The caliper piston is likely to be jamming in the caliper due to corrosion. Hth

My friend had the same problem it was diagnosed as a sticking caliper piston when it was taken of and tested it was fine piston moving out and back but under load of driving the caliper played up again. Replaced with new caliper now fine.

Park your van at the bottom of the ‘track’ - build a car port ? And get a quad complete with shopping basket for getting to that blissful place.. or rent a guy with a swing shovel to make the track workable and add a drainage ditch so it doesn’t wash out again.. depends how perfect you want it - hard work but not impossible

Wheel bearing’s are often over tightened & that leads to excess heat generation - the black/grey grease then comes out from the stub axle cap- the garage needs to follow the beating preload settings!!

A FAULTY PROPORTIONING VALVE WILL ONLY RELEASE INTERMITTENTLY. CAUSING THE FRONT BRAKES TO STAY CLAMPED , THEN RELEASE AFTER YOU PRESS THE BRAKE A FEW TIMES. THAT PROPERTY AND VIEWS WERE STUNNING. AND THE WATER IS A HUGE BENEFIT. POWER , WATER ARE THE BIGGEST THINGS. YOU CAN BOONDOCK VISIT AND TAKE YUR TIME, SLOW AND EASY. THANKS FOR SHARING. GOD BLESS YA ALL. 👍👍🙏🙏

I think that mountain retreat would be a challenge during the winter months. Also it needs a lot of work and trades people to visit, uhm nice but very challenging I think.

Guys! Homesteading is a hell of a lot of work, after seeing the van rebuild I do not think you are up for it just yet.
Take some courses on welding, carpentry, solar, basic mechanics/electrics, concreting, brick/stonework and farming. Start saving for an equipped workshop.

10:18 yes, it's bearing grease. There's several possibilities why it's cooked, brake trouble is only one of them.

Access to water is going to be a major problem in the very near future. Grab this property with grateful hands and fix up a small part to live in and fix the rest up over time. It was stunning!

sometimes when you have new brake discs installed, they are packed in black pudding, to keep them shiny... what is what was dripping out of the hub cap.. keep up the good work you two😘

Each well will need to have been registered, they take it very seriously in Andalucia, but you may already know this. If the well isn’t already registered it’s a whole palaver to get it done. I had a whole file just for the paperwork for my wells.

A great vlog guys, loved to hear Vinster muscling up the hills like a trooper. I think if you could find a garage for the vans in your village all of you needs would be met. Pop in proper stairs to your terrace at home and be the envy of hundreds. Then go travelling. Easy. 🤩👋🇬🇧🇺🇦

Hello from Telford Shropshire. Just done a VW crafter ELWB. Took 12 months to do. The build was easy, it’s the planning I wish I took more time on. So yes Nick sitting down taking 5 and a lot of planning on paper. The land looked fantastic

Seems like you have a binding brake caliper. its getting so hot that its melting the hub bearing grease and thats what is running out on the wheel. Be careful it could catch fire and that will be the end of it. Its the same with trucks, when you hear of a truck on fire its the brakes have over heated and burst into flames! I know i drive a 44ton articulated truck..

That seems to be a common issues among properties in Portugal and Spain, the land boundaries and exactly what's included. Sometimes you own the land but the building is sold separately with a whole different set of issues and paperwork and getting family members to sign off...then you have building restrictions and other quirky issues. But wow....that land is spectacular...and I love the house, but yes, SO much work. What a view too!!
