I appreciate the way Aravind thinks. The way he responds in every interview is so consistent and thoughtful. Love perplexity and wish him and the team all the success. Great product.
And do what with all this AI if many of us are employed? Who can afford the good and services produced by AI? Nice. AI surely can replace CEO/CTO/CFO positions.
If a publicly traded company chooses to outsource overseas to cut costs, it should start by outsourcing top-tier management positions like the CEO, CFO, and CTO. By saving millions paid to these executives, the company could preserve the jobs of many American workers, who, when gainfully employed, would contribute significantly more to the local economy than a small group of overpaid executives. Why is it acceptable to outsource someone else’s job but not theirs? For every CEO outsourced, the company could retain 10 employees whose spending on homes, goods, and services would have a far greater positive impact on the community. A CEO isn’t going to buy 10 homes or spend 10 times as much locally, so why not apply the same cost-cutting logic to their roles? Selectively protecting executives while sacrificing workers only exacerbates inequality and harms the economy in the long run. H1B program overall is good. There is an abuse component to it. However, outsource of the services sector should curtailed. When Elon got his H1B, the scale of outsourcing we know of today did not exit.
This guy is the real deal. He understands business, GTM, is transparent, and rational about the limitations of the models. I learned more about designing an AI product than any other content. One thing he might be a bit off is about the WhatsApp thing. I understand where he is coming from as I think the same but you'd be surprised how differently people use Whatsapp in other parts of the world like India. Seen small businesses use WhatsApp to manage their entire Customer Support. Specific AI features could be a gamechanger for them.
Wow. Aravind is a brilliant guest. Every sentence he speaks is insightful. No linguistic yoga, riddles or geo-politics like Sam Altman. Just "speak to me like I'm 5" answers. The pod was effortless to listen to and follow. Bring him back in 12 months.
Aravind Shrinivas makes a lot of great points, but at around 16.00, he conflates reasoning with genius. I do not think genuis is only about good reasoning. But apart from that, it's quite an articulate and insightful discussion.
