  • A basic oil and filter change, but also replacement of the oil pan gasket which was disintegrated to the point of oil leaking out of the pan.

I once owned a D14 a dealer told me a D14 and D 17 AC would starve a tractor shop to death, because they rarely break down,
I sure enjoyed owning and using my D14, 1957 model ,
As I remember the oil filter came with a wooden peg or some such that stuck in a hole in the center of the oil filter base, this peg stuck up into the oil filter,
    Worked great

That's for the comments. Yes, nothing seems to want to stop these old tractors! There is a center stem that goes in the oil filter. It is a hollow tube to allow the oil to filter from the top down through the oil filter. I didn't know that when I did this video. Someone else caught the problem. I did another video to show the problem corrected. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/UWzSU2gbUQA/видео.html
Apparently Allis used this tube and oil filter to create oil pressure in the engine.

Hey bro 17 here got a D14 1956! Do you have any tips for me? I'd love to hear fom someone with experience to these tractors. It's also missing the carb so if you know what to look for that'd be great! I've saved a dozen vehicles from the woods so I'll get your drift

I see it has already been asked, but could I get that manual. My grandfather has a 53' d14 as well, still runs that brush hog over the same fields his father worked 75+ years ago. He has asked me to reach out, his was sadly lost a year or so back when he traded in his old car. He has been kicking himself in the ass without a doubt!

I'd be happy to send it to you. I'll need your email address, though. I haven't figured out yet how to send a private message on RUclips. If you know, send your email address to me via a private message so it doesn't appear on the public comments. The manual is large enough that it has to be sent via Google drive which is why it needs to be sent through email.

After the advice of a viewer below, I realized there is an error in this video concerning replacing the oil filter on the Allis. I've done a video correcting the problem. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/UWzSU2gbUQA/видео.html

    Help?

Will be uploading a video in the near future showing my radiator replacement/repair. It includes the thermostat assembly. Essentially, the gasket goes over the hole leading to the engine first. Then the brass trim ring sits on top of that. Next, the thermostat sits in the top of the brass trim piece. Finally, the rubber gasket sits on the top of the thermostat flange. The bell housing cover just fits down over the whole assembly and is bolted to the top of the engine. Also, I got a scanned copy of the original Allis operator's manual when I bought the tractor. I have it uploaded to my computer in pdf format. If you would like a copy of it, please send me your email address and I'll send it to you.

I gave you a 👎 on your video because of a glaring error that proves you don't know enough about your D14 to be advising others. There is supposed to be a tube that extends from the oil filter base up through the hole in the filter. Without that tube you probably have no or very little oil pressure and oil flow to your valve train. You need to find, buy or make that tube and install it.

Thank you for the comment. As I've said in previous videos, I got this D14 about 3 years ago. It was operational, but not restored. No, I didn't notice the missing oil filter tube. It wasn't there when I got the tractor, so obviously one of the previous owners removed it or it broke off and was never replaced. Of course, when we looked the tractor over before buying it, we didn't remove the oil filter to check. Admittedly, I wasn't aware of it. In the dozen or more different vehicles - cars, trucks, garden tractors, and other power equipment - I've done many oil changes on over the years, I've never seen a center tube that goes up through the oil filter on any of them. There is no picture of it in the Allis manual and none is listed in the parts catalog from All States. I will continue to look for a replacement. As far as the valves go, in one of my previous videos, I did a valve cover gasket replacement. When I took the valve cover off, the valves looked good for a tractor that is over 60 years old.

@@countrylivingonashoestring5159 the tube is on every gas powered Allis Chalmers engine from the B up through the D 14 and probably at least through the D17 and WD 45. Allis engines use the oil filter to build oil pressure. I'd be surprised if you are showing much pressure without the tube because oil is pumped through the tube and into the top of the filter. Also, you aren't filtering your oil very well if at all. You can make a tube with s piece of brake line tubing of the correct diameter but it needs to be slightly restricted at the top and have a couple of small holes in the side of it down an inch or so from the top. I wasn't trying to offend you but you need to correct the video. Otherwise people are either going to be mislead, as you were, or they are going to know, as I do, that you really don't know much about Allis Chalmers tractors. I'm sorry I can't give you exact measurements on the tube. I'd have to go and take one of mine apart. If you can't find it elsewhere let me know. However I'm not likely to see it here.

Hi Charlie, I wasn't offended. I appreciate the info. I'm new to Allis tractors. I grew up with Farmall and Oliver. But, as I said, the tube was missing when I got the tractor, so how long the previous owner went without it, I don't know. And, I've run it for 3 years now without it. But, I will correct the problem and the video. I was on the Allis forum and apparently this is a problem other D 14 owners have had - missing tube. They gave a few suggestions for a fix - 1/4" brake line or 1/4" copper. I did find a site that sells replacement tubes - $18 plus s&h. But, All States doesn't have it as far as I could find. The oil pressure gauge never worked from when I got the tractor, but since most of the other gauges didn't either, I didn't give it much thought. As I said, this tractor was functional, but needed a lot of work. Some of my previous videos, I've shown my efforts to correct some of the problems, but I have a ways to go yet.
