I just got my safety tape in the mail, I think this might be my first project. This video already helps me feel less nervous. It will also be healing, since I found my love of the quiet forest at summer camp in Ukraine. 🌻
Very cool, I'll def be trying this. One small thing tho, does so much of it need to be done with chisel? Like of course details and whatnot but especially at the beginning wouldn't it be so much faster and easier to just use a normal blade? Mostly asking because I only have small chisels and am trying to become more proficient with pretty much every tool lol. Any help/advice is welcome!!!
Looks like you did it the hard way, You are really talented the way you removed all the extra material without redrawing your lines constantly and measuring like I would have to do.
Just finished with your latest email. Thanks for the bear pattern. I would like to see if maybe a tutorial on the proper technique of using a hook knife, could be made. I have only been carving about 3 months but I have bought and made your woodman kit, and now the spoon kit which I haven't started yet. I have not even seen a hook knife before let alone use one. Well that was my thought. Thanks for the great content and quality products.
Thank you very much, Gary. We're glad that you love the tools. As for the hook knife, you can find it here:bit.ly/2DjaZyE and here is a video tutorial on spoon carving: ruclips.net/video/wwywTvtyT8c/видео.html Wish you enjoyable spoon carving!
There are a couple of very good spoon tutorials out there to watch on how to use that tool, for bowls and spoons, so check them out. One English lady has done this for years, and shows how you start from the log to the spoon...so you get the complete method! Worth checking out! Cheers!
Thank you very much for the video! I have one question - recently I've saw other tutorial, where only whittling knife was used. It seemed much easier to define a basic shape with it. Is there any practical reason why you started with a chisel or is it just a habit?
Sometimes it is way faster to take off bulk with the chisel, especially if you know how to use them well. I find my flatter chisel does that for me, then I work on the details. As you do more carving, you will find extra tools to help you out more:) But, one knife is just as good if you also know how to use it well. But it can also take you longer, and not always be able to get into places you want to carve. Remember that softwoods can splinter if you don't know how much pressure to use, and a knife can take off more than you want! A chisel can help prevent too much being removed at once...its a matter of practice and use of the tools. The chisel also can do the curved in areas needed for eyes etc. A straight knife will not give you that specific surface look required. It is good to try out all methods to see what you prefer and the effects you want to have with the wood. Some people prefer the chip method or flat plane method. Be sure however to wear protection on your hands as every tool can slip no matter how hard you try not to!:)
Beautiful layout table, where does one find a top like that. Been a carpenter all my life ,retired now I carve having a blast doing it. Great rabit . Keep up the good work and thanks

I am excited to try this tutorial! The only thing I need is the finger safety tape (this would be my first ever carving.) I'm disappointed to not see it available on your website or your Amazon page. I would prefer to support your company by buying from you, but if you don't have any for sale, what brand do you recommend?
I LOVE your tutorials, they are so very helpful , teaching me techniques, tips and tricks. I would really like a tutorial on carving the INFINITY sign, because its a tricky one for me to wrap my mind around, Lol. Thanks in advance !
