I'll be honest and not ashamed because, as Dot learned, we're all different. I shed a few tears. Beautiful coloring and moving story. Thanks Tonja to have shared with us. Cheers from Italy. Dan
Wow! Extremely beautiful 😍. I am just now starting to get into coloring. Came across your video as I was looking for a flip through of this book. Oh my, this made my decision easier on whether to purchase this book. Thank you for such a wonderful presentation that includes a story, too. 😊
Oh thank you! Yes I think you won’t be disappointed by this book. I love several of Johanna’s books - “Ivy and the Inky Butterfly” and “Rooms of Wonder” are probably my favorites of hers, after this one. Enjoy your coloring journey and remember above all to have fun with it! There’s no “right” way - it’s your art, so do what you want! :)
You are really talented, I loved it all, the colouring and the story. I wonder if Johanna knows about this. It's as good a story as her Ivy. Have you thought of doing a story for every colouring book you complete? it's so original! Congrats!
Oh thank you! I’m not sure if she knows about it. I tagged her in all my posts about it when I first did it but never saw any response. That’s ok. I do have one more idea for a story so I’ve been keeping my eye open for the right book. I’m not a natural storyteller though, so I’m not overflowing with ideas. 😁 Thank you for watching!
I just came across your beautiful work - so impressed with your coloring and, of course, your lovely story that accompanied all the pages. Thank you for sharing.
You've given me a lot of great ideas. I'm in awe of your artwork. I'm working in this book right now and was looking for inspiration. I found it and so much more!
Oh thank you, that’s really nice of you. I haven’t posted much yet, as you can see, but I have ideas for more. Just looking for time. :). Thanks again!
What a lovely video to watch.. your colouring is gorgeous and your story so heart-warming! Congratulations on a job so very well done. I'm glad I bumped into your video - thoroughly enjoyed it! Have a nice night, Easter
As an avid colourist who still has a lot to learn, I'd love to see you do some tutorials on how you colour. I'd also enjoy more flip throughs, completed pages, etc. You have nothing to lose so don't doubt yourself. :)
Wow!! Not only is the colouring beautiful you wrote such a wonderful story to go with it! This is my favourite book and I have almost finished it. I love it so much I bought a second copy of it. I wonder if you separated your pages on purpose or did they fell apart. My book has had most of the pages fallen out and I will need to get it spiral bound. I would love to share this video with my colouring group (coloring queen) if you don't mind. Also subscribed to you. Hope you post more video's!
Thank you so much! I separated mine on purpose but I know that many people have reported theirs falling apart. I wish I would have gotten it spiral bound at the beginning but I was too anxious to start it and then once I had the lettering done I was too paranoid that the binder would mess it up. 😅 I’d be honored for you to share it with whoever you’d like. I’d love to do more videos - finding the time and the confidence have been holding me back. I’ve been mulling the idea for another story for Johanna’s new book so we’ll see how that goes. Thanks for the lovely comment!
WOW. Just wow! So impressive!! Also- how on earth did you do that background with the blue, pink, green and yellow on the page opposite to when dot discovers the shed full of shelves? It is absolutely stunning! It literally looks like a professional back drop!
Thank you so much! I wish I could take full credit for that background, but I followed a tutorial by Chris Cheng. She did a different page and I adapted it to this one. ruclips.net/video/35yCTq403rg/видео.html She does amazing work and I learn a lot from her!
This is incredible!! Every page is coloured in such an accomplished way, and such diversity through the book, yet it holds together as a beautiful, coherent whole. So much inspiration in these pages for other colourists. And your story is perfect, and read so beautifully 🙂 This project of yours has made my day! I’ve subscribed, as I could learn a lot from you! Your colour palettes are fantastic. I would love to know how long this project took you, and am also interested whether you used a particular type of pencil throughout or different ones depending on the page. But congratulations, this is a wonderful achievement! 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you, Anna! You’re so kind. I wrote the story and laid it out ahead of time on my computer right before the book came out and posted my first colored bit of it at the end of Oct 2018. I didn’t really get the compulsion to finish it until 2020 though. Of the 72 pages I did last year, 51 of them were from this book. 😅 I finished it mid-Sept 2020, so altogether it was just short of two years. I used mostly Prismacolor Premiers and Polychromos, with a little bit of Irojiten here and there. They have really great pale colors. Thank you again!
Wow, that’s a real labour of love, over such a time period. 72 pages in a year is pretty impressive, too! The story feels so well spaced through the book, even with having planned it out, I imagine doing the lettering was nerve-wracking. Thank you for such a detailed reply. Interesting that you mentioned the Irojitens, I have been looking at them for pale shades to complement my Polychromos. Will look forward to seeing what you do next 🙂
Thanks, Neboul. I have a regular account that I normally use to watch livestreams but I was accidentally logged into this one for Joey’s broadcast this morning. 😊
Hi Annette, thanks for asking. I didn’t have a specific palette in mind for the whole book, I just went with what felt right for each page. That being said, I often found myself drawn to light colors so there are many pages that are pale blue, lavender, pink, yellow, and green.
I really enjoyed your coloring but most of all the story is amazing!!! Thanks for sharing 😊😊
Thank you so much! It was a lot of fun to do. Thanks for watching! 💙
